1 How to use this handout: First print out your copy of the Standards at A Glance from the website. Make sure to select your strand: visual, music, dance, etc. On the following pages I encourage you to look towards the s as way to help interpret the Anchor Standards. The blank spaces of the document are to fill in and list ways or lesson ideas you can use each Anchor Standard through the Enduring Understanding. Look at your copy of the Standards at a Glance to see your grade-level Performance Standards. This will help you in creating your list of ideas. Remember, the Anchor Standards are the content and the performing standards are the practical outcomes. Finally this document can be used as reflection tool the blank spaces can be a place to find opportunities for improvement. Below is a copy of one page from the Standards At A Glance document It has been diagramed for you to understand what is what. Anchor Standards, Enduring Understandings, and Essential questions. The top box lists the strand of art and Artistic Process Grade-levels Along the edge here are the cognitive verbs. Performance Standards listed by grade level Every Anchor Standard has it s own Performance Standard
2 VISUAL ARTS-create Anchor Standard 1 Generate and conceptualize artistic ideas and work. List ways to make, plan or investigate this in the classroom. Creativity and innovative thinking are essential life skills that can be developed Artists and designers shape artistic investigations, following or breaking with traditions in pursuit of creative artmaking goals. Anchor Standard 2 Organize and develop artistic ideas and work. Artists and designers experiment with forms, structures, materials, concepts, media, and artmaking approaches Artists and designers balance experimentation and safety, freedom and responsibility while developing and creating artworks. People create and interact with objects, places, and design that define, shape, enhance, and empower their lives. List ways to investigate this in the classroom. Anchor Standard 3 Refine and complete artistic work. Artist and designers develop excellence through practice and constructive critique, reflecting on, revising, and refining work over time. List ways to reflect, refine and continue in your art classroom.
3 VISUAL ARTS-present Anchor Standard 4 Select, analyze, and interpret artistic work for presentation. List ways to have students select in your classroom.- Artists and other presenters consider various techniques, methods, venues, and criteria when analyzing, selecting, and curating objects artifacts, and artworks for preservation and presentation. Anchor Standard 5 Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation. Artists, curators and others consider a variety of factors and methods including evolving technologies when preparing and refining artwork for display and or when deciding if and how to preserve and protect it. Through art-making, people make meaning by investigating and developing awareness of perceptions, knowledge, and experiences. List ways students can relate art to their knowledge and experience. People develop ideas and understandings of society, culture, and history through their interactions with and analysis of art. List ways to get students to relate art with the world around them.
