2 The Spirits Speak Although the president is indisposed he has communicated across the ether to us spiritual inhabitants of Trinity Theatre to give you our thoughts. Normal service will be resumed soon. We have really enjoyed the recent functions at the theatre. The bingo was great fun, but no one could hear us when we called Bingo. The ceilidh was great fun and we danced all night although we had no body to dance with! It is also good to see people coming along to the coffee mornings on the first Saturday of each month and it would be great to see a few more people. Looking ahead there is the race night on April 14th and the Community Quiz on May 12th. Please book your table for the quiz as they are being booked up quickly. We would love to have helped the small but energetic and enthusiastic band that have been working on two major projects improving our theatre. The kitchen has been stripped out and the process of fitting out is underway and we look forward to using it to make some ghoulash when it is finished. A deep trench has been dug in the clubroom to help manage the damp problem in the clubroom that has been there as long as we have. The trench is being filled and the drainage system installed at present. We don t mind the mess so please be patient while the work is being done. We are also 2

3 very grateful for the hard work these people are doing to improve our theatre as we know all the users of the theatre will be. THANKS TO ALL THE WORKERS! It s great to see another production about to start auditioning and rehearsals. We love the whole process of watching a show starting from it s stuttering beginnings through the ups and downs of the rehearsals until it all comes together showing how team work and hard graft produces something that brings enjoyment to so many people. We love watching it all. Thank you Mike for letting us say a few words. The Trinity Spirits. Treasurer s Report The kitchen and clubroom projects are well underway and the expenses for them are coming in but it is all a good investment. We had an enjoyable Ceilidh which made some money and we are looking forward to the forthcoming one-act plays to bring in some income and we also have some external hires coming up so please help with these if you are able to. Needless to say the bills for the running costs for the theatre keep coming in, so any income is welcome. John 3

4 Theatre Works At present there is considerable work being undertaken to refit the kitchen (pictured right) and digging a drainage trench in the clubroom to alleviate the damp problem(pictured left). The work has been undertaken b y a f e w 4

5 committed and very h a r d w o r k i n g members. Please bear with us while this work is being done and the corresponding mess but the results will m a k e a m a j o r improvement to the theatre. Thanks to all the workers. 5

6 Audition Notice We are excited to announce details of our next upcoming production. This is going to be a production of 3 short one-act plays all by local play-write Cheryl Barrett. Play 1: For My Final Act The play is set in the lounge at Accolades, a home for retired and semi-retired stars of the stage, silver screen and variety. We follow the lives of some of the residents on the day a magazine reporter arrives to interview competitive actresses René Underwood and Judy Isaac about their forthcoming debut at the Edinburgh Festival. But with Solly running the whole show things have a habit of turning out very differently. Cast (8) René Underwood, Female, playing age 65 plus René is a classically trained actress and something of a snob. She has a love-hate relationship with Judy. She hates ventriloquist dolls. Judy Isaac, Female, playing age 65 plus Starlet of the 1950s silver screen, Judy is statuesque and glamourous and her costume should be understated classic chic. She enjoys her verbal sparring sessions with René and flirts outrageously with Solly. Dolly Delaney, Female, playing age 65 plus Character actress popular with the masses, Dolly is homely and down to earth. She has a carefree attitude and bubbly personality. Solly Finesteen, Male, playing age 65 plus Theatrical agent and owner of Accolades, Solly is a charmer and an astute businessman. Marty Martin, Male, playing age 65 plus A past his sell by date ventriloquist, Marty has a slight drink problem. He is not a good ventriloquist so the art of ventriloquism is not a necessity for this part, however the relationship between Marty and his vent dolls should be believable. Mavis Crowther, Female, playing age 30 plus Mavis is the housekeeper at Accolades. I have written her as a Yorkshire woman but if the accent is too difficult it can be refined. Sam Bedford, Female, Versatility on casting so age can range from Junior reporter for Young At Heart magazine she can be young or old. Esther Goldblume, Female, playing age 70 plus One half of a variety memory act, now retired, Esther makes disparaging remarks, speaks Yiddish frequently and represents the chorus. She is seated on stage throughout. (Can be played by the prompt.) 6

7 Play 2: Look After The Cat, Darling The second play Look After The Cat, Darling is a light-hearted comedy set in Jonty s flat. It is set in the present. Jonty returns home from an activity weekend with his sister and brother-in-law to discover that his partner has left him. Cast (3) Jonty, Male, playing age An active man, slim and easy-going. Sarah, Female, playing age Jonty s sister. Practical. Speaks her mind. Graham, male, playing age Jonty s brother-in-law. Graham is portly, tends to speak before he thinks and has a jovial nature. Playing ages are a general guide; ideally the actors should be around the same age range. Play 3: Look For The Silver Lining Cast (4) Set in George and Alison s living room, George hates change and is not happy that his mother in law Nora is coming to stay. How will he react to her news? George Cartwright is in his forties and set in his ways. He has a love hate relationship with his mother in law and a dry sense of humour. Alison Cartwright is George s wife. She is calm but decisive and a peacemaker between George and her mother, Nora. Playing age 35 plus. Katie Cartwright is George and Alison s teenage daughter. Playing age She dresses casually in jeans and crop top. Nora is Alison s mother. Playing age 65 plus. Straight-talking, she has a love hate relationship with George. She has no dress sense. 8 The plays will be put on for a 4 night run, Wednesday 6 th June to Saturday 9 th June The read-through for the plays will be Monday 16 th April at 7pm and the Auditions will be Monday 23 rd April at 7pm, at the Theatre. Rehearsals are then planned for Monday and Thursday Evenings. 9 Annual General Meeting Monday June 4th at 7:30pm Come along and have a say in how your theatre group is run or put yourself forward to stand on the committee. The success of the society relies on members standing and being effective committee members. Why not give it a go. All members welcome. For those new to the way the society s AGM works, here are a few pointers. All officers and committee members stand down each year so all posts are vacant and are voted on at the AGM. Feel free to stand for any post you d like to. All members are entitled to stand for any elected post, but must be proposed and seconded before the AGM starts. Only paid up current members may vote at the AGM. The posts up for election for general committee are president, secretary, treasurer, drama coordinator, musical coordinator, technical manager, front of house manager, buildings manager, membership secretary, social secretary, stage director, marketing manager & four general committee members.
