1 GOAL Episode 2 I am this close to sending you back home! Broadcasting date : 4 November, 2002 RECAP OF PREVIOUS EPISODE COMMENTARY Young football star Manni arrives to play for London Rangers. Emma welcomes him and takes him to the match. COMMENTARY (CONT D): COMMENTARY (CONT D): COMMENTARY (CONT D): Immediately Manni is excited by the atmosphere of London Rangers and meets the club s top striker Paul Carter. Some of the stewards don t recognise Manni and throw him out of the ground. Emma looks for him everywhere... Have you seen Manni? No, I haven t. COMMENTARY...but now Manni is lost in London. Hello? (CONT'D)Sorry, who is this? (WHISPERING) Who is it? (WHISPERING TO ): It's Manni's father. (TO THE PHONE) Oh, yes, Manni has arrived safely... (CONT'D)Oh, no, you can't speak to him at the moment because... he's not here - well, I mean, he is here in England, but he's not here, at the moment, in his room 1

2 ('S FATHER SPEAKS, REPEATS WHAT HE SAYS) Where is he? Well, I'll just check. Sophie was with him last. (DESPERATE) Sophie, where's Manni? Downstairs. (INTO THE PHONE) He's downstairs. 4 (KEEPING HER VOICE DOWN, MOVING AWAY FROM ) Because we still haven't found Manni. Apparently, two of the stewards threw him off the grounds... JIM JIM Yeah, we saw them do that. What do you mean? You mean you SAW them throw him off the ground? Well, yeah, I mean, well, we saw the stewards throwing Manni off the pitch, anyway. But you told me earlier that you hadn't seen Manni. (EASING HIS WAY OUT OF A TIGHT CORNER) Yes, darling, but at the time we didn't know it was Manni on the pitch, did we? We thought he was some kind of hooligan. (LOADED TO JIM) Didn't we? JIM Yeah, yeah, that's right... A hooligan. (CHARMING) Look, we couldn't see who it was on the pitch, we honestly didn't know it was Manni. Yeah, yeah, of course. Well, look, I can't come out tonight if Manni is still lost Look, he's a big boy. He can look after himself. (CHARMING) Forget about him for a while and come out with me instead. I can't find my hotel. There he is! Oh great! He's got himself arrested! POLICEWOMAN Are you on holiday? No, I am here playing with London Rangers. Football. I just arrived today. 5

6 (CONT'D) (DESPERATE) Please. Okay, I'm not a thief. You've got to understand. Manni? Joe! Are you okay? POLICEWOMAN Do you know this man? Yeah. Well, I met him today. You see, I play football for... POLICEWOMAN(IN) London Rangers? (IN) Yeah. There was a mix up at the ground and Manni was thrown out by mistake... Look, what's happened? I couldn't remember the name of the hotel! POLICEWOMAN (PERSISTING) Do you know where Manni is staying? WOMAN The Millhouse Hotel. Yes, that's it! Well, maybe I made a mistake. 14 The only problem is - you're not allowed to eat too much of this cake, OK! And we're going to have a party tonight to celebrate your birthday! Blow out the candles then! (SURPRISED) I'd like you to look after Manni for me, help him, make sure he's happy. OK, I will if you want. Why do you want me to do it? You saw him in training this morning. I think Manni could be really good. (HE DIDN'T) Yeah? I'm very excited by him. I think he could be great for the club, if we look after him properly. He obviously needs building up physically, but he s got great footwork. I didn't see anything that special. If he develops the way I hope, then you and he could become the 2 main strikers in the team. (INCREDULOUS) Really? (IRONIC) Yes, Paul. I mean it. Maybe he could even take your place one day! So, how do you usually spend your birthdays Manni? Well I usually go out with friends, dancing, you know. Do you have a girlfriend back home? Yes, I do. Lucia. She's gorgeous. Is that Lucia? Yes. Listen, thank you for organising the party. It's fantastic. It's made me feel really at home. Good. But maybe I should go. I don't want to be tired for training tomorrow, you know. No, nor do I. 17 Sorry to stop all the fun, but I just want to say that the reason we are here tonight is to wish Manni a very happy eighteenth birthday. (CONT'D) And to wish him all the best of luck while he's with us here at London Rangers.
