1 6 th Grade ELA Post-Test Study Guide Semester One TYPES OF SENTENCES Simple sentences have one (subject, predicate, complete thought). Compound sentences contain independent clauses and use conjunctions. F A N B O Y S Complex sentences use conjunctions such as because, since, after, although, until (there are many others!) or a relative pronoun such as that, who, or which. They contain one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses. Run-on sentences have than one independent clause without proper conjunctions and/or punctuation.
