5 Please note We use Relative Clauses to give additional information about people or things without starting a new sentence. Examples Is it your neighbor who lives next door? The flat that I bought was fully furnished. The bear which was out of the cage didn t hurt anybody. 4

6 Please note Relative pronouns We use who only for people Example: My grandpa who was born in Italy spoke three languages. We use which for animals and things Example: I ve watched the movie which you recommended to me yesterday. We use that for people, animals and things Example: The dish that we enjoyed was an example 5 of Russian cuisine.

7 Please note Relative pronouns We use where to make it clear which place we are talking about Example: The cinema where we met was closed a year ago. We use when to make it clear which time we are talking about Example: Yesterday when I was in the shower somebody called me. 6

8 Please note When the relative pronoun is object of its clause we sometimes can omit it: Which Who That When Have you seen those socks (which) I was wearing yesterday? She believes everyone (who) she sees on TV. The game (that) we play is not interesting. It was the year (when) we met. 7

9 Please note We put the preposition after the verb when the relative pronoun is the object of a preposition. My sister lives in this district. I was talking to a friend. This is the district (that) my sister lives in. Who was the person you were talking to? 8

Where The country where I was born does not exist anymore. Using relative clauses can give the reader more details. They tell which person, place, or thing we are talking about. Use of the relative clauses makes your speech smoother. 9
