Sower and the Seeds1 Theme: Part 1 of a 5 part series, (suitable for VBS or children s programs), on the parable of the Sower. The reporters at CNN, (which in this case is Country Nature Network), are connecting with Kermit the frog and Miss Piggy to dig into just how and why we sow seeds. The reference is why does God plant seeds and how God s love is a seed in each one of us. The series includes some original music lyrics. Bible Reference: Matthew 13:1-23 Cast: Set: Lighting: Sound: Costumes: 5 (in this segment, additional character, Clarice the Crow, in some segments) Wolf Blister, CNN Situation Room reporter Stone Pastures, CNN Nature reporter Sunny Flowers, CNN Agricultural reporter Kermit the frog Miss Piggy, the gorgeous pig TV studio, may be as elaborate or plain as you wish standard This segment has only a short song She s My Sunny Flower written to the music of She s My Sunflower by Mack David. For a sample of the music do a search on Google. Some other segments have music which is available to DramaShare members at the TECHNICAL HELP under Script Songs standard for CNN reporters, frog costume and pig costume for Kermit and Miss Piggy, (may be elaborate or basic) Props: Time: 10 Script: CNN Broadcast room Stone and Sunny are at center stage, Wolf is sitting off to the side Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, thanks for tuning in to CNN, the Country Nature Network, I am your host, Stone Pastures. And a warm welcome to your co-host, Sunny Flowers. Good to be with you again Stone, another jam-packed program here on CNN, a busy day on the agriculture beat for sure... Starting off with the markets, what does your ticker tell you Stone? Sower and the Seeds1 Page 1
Stone, hand over heart: Well, Sunny, fact is I have been having a few chest pains but I think it may be the extra salsa on my soft meat burrito down at Happy Hank s Spiceorama at noon today.. Sunny, embarrassed: Uhhh, no, wasn t asking about your heart, Stone, I was referring to the stock markets. Oh that.. of course.. well, fact is Sunny, beets are up, carrots are down, coleslaw is just kinda laying there. Sunny, confused: Coleslaw?... Since when do we have a stock report for coleslaw? You saying there should be no stock report for coleslaw? Sunny pauses, holds hand to ear, holds up hand to silence Stone Folks we have to break away for late breaking news from the CNN Situation Room, here is Wolf Blister... Wolf? to Situation Room set Thank you Sun Flowers.. That is.. Sunny Flowers, Wolf. Sorry about that Sun... We wanted to bring our listeners up to speed on late developments in the Spring Planting arena... As you know Sun, all of our listeners have been riveted to their TV sets over this... Stone Pastures here Wolf, you mean our CNN listeners have been like riveted to their TV sets?.. I mean like, that s gotta smart! Not riveted.. like riveted Stone. Uh huh!.. Glad you straightened us out on that one Wolf. Well, as all our CNN listeners know, this is the season for spring planting and all the folks in the country here are thinking about nothing else. Kermit and Miss Piggy come on stage chatting Sower and the Seeds1 Page 2
So anyhow my mom, she said, Miss Piggy... that s what my mom calls me.. Miss Piggy. Makes sense kinda, I guess, seein s how your name is Miss Piggy. M Piggy, angry: Kermit, I do declare, you know my name is Miss Piggy.. and I for sure know my name is Miss Piggy.. but how in tarnation are the folks out there in TV land s posed to know that my name is Miss Piggy if n I don t weave my name into this here conversation, I ask you? Kermit, squints, looks out into audience: TV land?... There s a TV land out there somewhere? Look around yourself bug eater; don t this look like a CNN set to you? I gotta take my hat off to you Miss Piggy!.. How would y all know this here is a CNN set? First clue might be all the CNN signs around here. Wolf crosses to M Piggy and Kermit Excuse me people, Wolf Blister here, might I have a minute of your time? Wolf Blister?... Just what is a wolf blister? M Piggy, angry: Kermit the Frog, don t y all know nothin from nothing? Don t tell me you don t know Wolf Blister! Can t say I do.. Me, I had a cold sore back a few weeks ago, here on my top lip here.. but a wolf blister.. man that do sound some painful for sure! Wolf, clears throat: Yes, well, a few questions if we may... (to Miss Piggy) Miss, your name please? M Piggy, smiles, star-struck, looks up lovingly: Why Mr. Wolf Blister, most folks call me Miss Piggy, but a gorgeous hunk like you.. why you can just call me... (sexy voice)... Sweetums! Uhhhh... Sweetums,.. that is to say... Miss Piggy.. some questions if I may... As you know it is spring.. planting season... What is going through your mind? Sower and the Seeds1 Page 3
Oh Wolfie baby.. It is spring for sure, and you know what they say.. In the spring a young girl s fancy turns to thoughts of love! You mean you aren t thinking of the spring planting season? Spring planting isn t even on the radar screen baby!.. Now kiss me you fool! Wolf, tries to keep M Piggy at distance: Wait... please... (turns to Kermit) You sir... your name please.. Kermit, clears throat: I sir, am Kermit... But you may call me.. Kermit. Uhh.. yes, well,... What do you think of in this time of spring planting? I sir am thinking of young seeds, planted in the cool, moist soil, ready to explode into healthy and productive plants which will provide healthy protein nourishment to countless millions of people around the world. Wow, I am impressed! Kermit, speaking to off-stage: Did you guys in the sound truck out back get all that quote from me?.. Did you video dudes get a close-up of my best side, my right side?.. Did I look and sound pretty awesome? Good grief!... And I am the one who is s posed to be the ham! Miss Piggy, Kermit,.. Stone Pastures here, just a clarification if I may.. the person who does the sowing... That would be the.. Sower. Right.. the sower... Now just why does the sower sow the seeds? You figure the seeds are gonna just like somehow jump into the ground all on their own maybe?... Not the sharpest pencil in the box are you Stoney dude? A good point there Miss Piggy... The sower serves a very important role. And you would be...? Sunny Flower, CNN News co-host. Sower and the Seeds1 Page 4
And a very attractive Sunny Flower you are too.. I just might break out in song.. (sings Sunny Flower to tune of She s My Sunflower ) She s my Sunny Flower She s my one-y flower And I know we ll never part. She s my Sunny Flower She s my one-y flower She s the flower of my heart. If you are thinking about a future as a singer my best advice is that you best keep your day job eating flies. I think you are on to something there Sunny... It all starts with the sower. Which begs the question:.. why does the sower sow? Well if he was to just like plough and not sow the field he would likely be called the.. Plower. So before anything happens first the sower has to sow. Listeners, I think we see something interesting here... First there is a sower who wants to plant the seed... Then there needs to be the right seed used.. Then the sower goes out and lovingly plants that seed.. Good sower, good seed, good results. I think we need to head back to the Situation Room where some experts are standing by to tell us more about what happens when a sower sows some seeds. Wow, this is some exciting!... Every hair on my head is standing on end... You have no hair on your head Kermit. I know Miss Piggy, but if I had hair on my head it for sure would be standing on end. Listeners, hear now from our expert panel... VBS leaders introduce the day s subject Sower and the Seeds1 Page 5
