1 Grade 1 Response to Literature Writing Paper A Response to Literature Grade 1 Translation: Night Noises My favorite part of Night Noises was when Lilly dreamed of when she was married. There is only one complete sentence but the sentence is relevant to the topic. The student responded to the book by telling about a favorite part. There is not enough information to have an organizational pattern to the story. The writer consistently uses correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

If I could be any character in this book, I would be Charlie. The student writes three well developed sentences that are focused on the topic. There is some evidence of an organizational strategy. The writer begins with a summary of the story and then responds by telling what character she/he would like to be. There is a variety of sentence structures. 3 Grade 1 Response to Literature Writing Paper C Translation: Armadillo Tattletale I like this story, you might like it too. Armadillo has VERY big ears. So, he told on people every time someone said something good about someone. So his ears got tiny. This reminds me of my sister always telling on me. I promise you ll like this book. The student writes 4+ well developed sentences that are focused on a topic. There is evidence of logical and sequential grouping of ideas and some evidence of transition words (so). The writing has a beginning, middle, and end. There is a strong appeal to audience (I promise). The writer shows voice when he describes the armadillo s ears by using upper case letters for the word VERY and small letters for the word tiny. There is a variety of sentence structures. The writer consistently uses correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
4 Grade 1 Response to Literature Writing Paper D Translation: Those Shoes Those Shoes is a good book because I have a connection to it. When I was a bit littler, I had a pair of little, sparkly pink, church, high shoes. One day Mommy realized that they were getting too little. I was sad, so I got new church shoes. In the book, Those Shoes, Jeremy wanted new shoes because all his friends had the same cool shoes that he wanted. One day in gym, his shoes broke so he really wanted new shoes because his only other shoes he had were girly and babyish. But he had new snow boots. The student writes 4+ well developed sentences that focused on a topic. The writing starts with a beginning that explains a text to self connection. The middle gives a summary of Those Shoes, but the ending is undeveloped. The writer uses descriptive language (little, sparkly, pink, church, high shoes). The writing has a variety of sentence structures. The writer consistently uses correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

It s a book about an armadillo that tattles on his friends. He learns a lesson not to tattle on his friends. I have a brother that tattles on me a lot. It was a good book. The student writes 4+ well developed sentences that stay focused on the topic. There is a clear beginning, middle, and end. The writer speaks to the audience at the beginning (If you have a mean little sister that tattles a lot ). The writing has a variety of sentence structures. The writer consistently uses correct spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.

What happened in the story was Jeremy really wanted special shoes that cost a lot. Then Jeremy and his grandma go to lots of thrift shops. Then he found the shoes he wanted. But he got blisters. Finally he gave them to Antonio. My favorite part is when Jeremy gave Antonio (his) shoes because maybe Antonio s mom and dad couldn t afford it. I hope you will read it.
