6 V ocabulary Storage Pocket Making the Mini-Book Your pages must be duplicated on the front and the back. I ran my pages front and back directly from the printer. This is a simple process with only four pages. Simply place the page that has been printed on one side back into the printer for the reverse side to be printed. Once all the pages have been printed arrange them in numerical order and staple down the middle to form the book. [See the completed book on page 5.] To print the vocabulary book back-to-front follow this guide: Cover and Page 6 on the front and Page 5 on the back Pages 4 & 1 front with Pages 2 & 3 on back After printing this page on colored paper, have the students cut out the pocket on the bold lines. Next fold the left and right sides toward the back of the pocket on the dotted lines. Then fold the bottom flap up toward the back. Glue the flaps in place. Finally glue the pocket to the inside front cover of the practice booklet. This pocket may be used to store the word cards found on page 4. Print the cards from page 4 onto cardstock. Cut the cards apart. Have students create word webs on the backs of the cards. Store these in the pocket provided on this page. ~ Page 6 Gay Miller ~

11 Step 1 ~ Give each student one closed grocery bag. Students are to cut one inch strips from the opened end of the bag to approximately half way down the bag. Note: These do not need to be exact. Step 2 ~ Open the bag. Hold the bottom against a table with one hand. With the other hand twist the middle portion of the bag to form the trunk of the tree. Step 3 ~ Hold approximately every two strips together and twist beginning at the trunk end out to the ends to form branches. Step 4 ~ Print the next two pages onto heavyweight paper. Construction paper works well. Step 5 ~ Have students write a vocabulary word, definition, or a short sentence on each apple. Step 6 ~ Cut out the apple and leaf shapes. Step 9 ~ Hang the apples on the tree. Glue the leaves onto the branches. Step 7 ~ You can hang the finished apples with paper clips, bread ties, or yarn. On the back of one apple in each set, tape a hanger making sure it sticks up high enough to tie/hang onto the finished tree. Step 8 ~ Glue the three apple pieces back-to-back. ~ Page 11 Gay Miller ~
