1 Romeo and Juliet Scene Performances Evaluated Objectives: Perform (don't read) a scene from Romeo & Juliet. Language: o Either modernize and update the language so that it is comprehensible to a teenager yet still in line with the spirit and feel that Shakespeare intended, plus use limited, to no, notes. o Or use Shakespearean language and present it in form consistent with the 16 th century Verona. Try to learn the lines (or make cue cards for occasional reference). o Whichever method you select, pronounce clearly Dress the part and add to the setting as needed. Use props. Bring in own props to supplement in class items. Use body language, positioning, and stage directions to improve delivery. One arm should be free to gesture and eye contact should be made often. Include some sort of background trees, balcony, cave, etc. You may draw on a large paper and mount it before the scene (one idea), you can use ppt or impress (not prezi) in order to project various backgrounds on the wall. You must have this sent to the teacher one day in advance of your presentation. Send to laurieanne.galveias@ocsb.ca or through google drive. Have a narrator/promptor begin your scene in a prologue fashion where they recap what has happened and what is about to happen. They also move slides around for you and be minor characters as needed. What to present? Choose a scene from the list below. The number of students allowed per scene is indicated. You may choose your own groups; choose wisely as you may have to prepare outside of class! Once you have signed up for a scene, you cannot change. Once the scene is selected, it is also not available to another group. At the beginning of each scene, have a prompter step forward and introduce what just happened and what is about to happen. Also the page in the text for following along. They provide the setting and create a send-off for you to move forward. They may be needed throughout the presentation if you change scene settings. DUE DATES: The scenes will present in order, with the first beginning on November 1, then conclude on the 1 th. ABSENCES:

2 If you miss your presentation day, a helper will be selected from the audience to do your part. You will receive a make up assignment due two days from the moment you return to class. We will not wait until everyone in the group is present to perform. If you are signing up for a date, MAKE SURE YOU WILL BE HERE. It is a responsibility. Choose the date you can commit to not the group you wish to be apart of, unless both line up for you. Choose one of the following scenes: Romeo and Juliet Scene List Signing up instructions: Each person must be in two numbers. It can be the same people all together or you can mix it up and be with a different team, or do a solo. Once a number is taken, it is gone.
