4 The use of the simple past The simple past is used to describe events in the past. Regular verbs: The verbs "lived, started, died" are regular past forms. Irregular verbs: Some irregular verbs are: be-was/were, go-went, eat-ate, have-had, see-saw, etc. The forms of the simple past: The Affirmative form of the simple past: I played tennis with my friends yesterday. I finished lunch and I did my homework. The interrogative form of the simple past: Examples: Did you play basketball yesterday? Did you watch television? Did you do the homework? Used to has the same form in all persons, singular and plural and it is followed by infinitive. We also use Used to for things that were true but are not true anymore. Example: I used to live with my parents but now I live with my husband or I live with my husband but I used to live with my parents. (e.g Paris is the biggest city in France) The rules to form comparatives and superlatives: 1. One syllable adjective ending in a silent 'e' nice Comparative add 'r' nicer Superlative add 'st' nicest 2.
