1 Kimochis In Store Play Day There are so many ways to play with Kimochis! Here are some simple, fun games that can be used with small groups at in-store event! Spark conversations, help children build a strong emotional vocabulary, and get families connected. We would love to hear how you are playing with Kimochis! Please us at: kimochime@kimochis.com Meet the Kimochis Introduce the Kimochis characters by reading their individual stories. Long versions are included in the Feel Guide that comes with each character, shorter versions are on the back of each box (and attached here). The Kimochis characters are a great way to help us understand ourselves and others. After reading the character s personalities, position each Kimochis character in a different place in the room. Ask the group to stand near the character that they relate to most. Encourage each group to look around and see which character their friends/family chose. Give each group 3-5 minutes to talk about the ups and downs of being like that character. I am easy to be around because / I am hard to be around because Ask each group to select one person to hold the character and share what s challenging and what s great about being just like this character. Bug Makes a Splash! (Feeling brave story time) Host a story time! Bug Makes a Splash is a great springboard for teaching children what it means to be brave. Read the picture book, pointing out fun details in the illustrations as you go. During or after the reading: Ask the group: What was Bug afraid of? (swimming and flying. The group might have more suggestions!) Remind the group that being brave means you might feel scared, shy, or embarrassed, but you get yourself to do the right thing anyway. Being brave means that you do what is right; try new things; make mistakes and express yourself in kind and caring ways even when it might be difficult. Have children share a time when they were brave. (For example, admitting to a mistake; going down the big slide; saying sorry to a friend; speaking in class when they felt shy encourage all types of bravery!) Have children make a Brave Badge using the included template. Color, cut, and decorate the words I WAS BRAVE. Tape it to their shirt and have them share with their parents why they felt brave.
2 Cloud s Best Worst Day Ever (Feeling mad story time) Host a story time! Cloud s Best Worst Day Ever is a great springboard for teaching children that it s okay to be mad, but it s not okay to be mean (with our face, tone of voice, or words). Read the picture book, pointing out details in the illustrations. During or after the reading: Ask the group: Why was Cloud mad? (a bird pooped on his head; he lost his pudding; Cat FOUND and ate his pudding. The group might have more suggestions!) Remind the group that it s okay to be mad, but it s not okay to be mean with their facial expression, words, or tone of voice. A mean face can scare people. Demonstrate a MEAN face (pinched eyes, pursued lips, frowning mouth). Have the children make a mean face. Demonstrate a mad, but NOT MEAN face (wide open eyes and a serious expression). Have the children practice. Ask the group What can you say or do so you don t hurt or scare others when you re mad? Offer suggestions, like: When I feel mad, I will use a calm voice and a serious, but not mean, face. When I feel mad, I will take a calming breath (breathe in through your nose and blow out through your mouth). Have the children share their ideas! Other suggestions: counting to 10 in your head; squeezing your own thumb or a soft object; finding a friend to talk to. Children can color and decorate a Mad Reminder using the included template. Kimochis Charades Put all the Kimochis plush feelings in a colorful bowl. Have a child pick a feeling, but keep it hidden, and then act it out (it s ok to use words to explain the scenario as long as they don t slip and say the feeling). Whoever guesses correctly, goes next!
