3 A Note from the Director: The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a fast-paced wacky comedy that is as exciting as it is hilarious. This wonderful collection of stories takes the fairy tales we all know and love and turns them upside down. In one word, I would describe this show as EXTREME. I would like to thank everyone involved with the Arnold Community Theatre Troupe and this production for giving me the opportunity to direct this amazing group of individuals, and for making it such a wonderful experience. I was given the most talented and fun cast to work with. I cannot imagine a better group of people to perform with. These actors made being a director truly easy and enjoyable with their unbelievable talent, dedication, and love of this play. I would like to thank all the wonderful people who supported our troupe by purchasing an ad in our program -- please read through and see all the great people in our community who made this possible. I d like to thank the church for being so generous and making this production possible by providing us with the space and tech needed to perform it. Specifically, I would like to thank Pastor Andy Becker and Mr. Burnell Hackman from the church. Also, I must thank our costumers, Morgan Epperson and Ashley Niemeyer, our stage manager, Savanna Nix, our tech director, Keith Henderson, our bake sale organizer, Shelby Roberts, team puppet (Jake Singer, Lisa Henderson, Brenda Pauley, & Nick Hoffman) and all the other people who made my vision possible. I also have to thank Lisa Henderson, who has been my friend and directing mentor. She is the greatest assistant director I could have asked for and has taught me so much while helping to make this show the magnificent spectacle that I view it to be. Kurt Vonnegut once said, Go into the arts. I m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something. The Arnold Community Theatre Troupe and all those involved have helped to make my world so much brighter and specifically I have grown so much by directing this production. I thank all those who practice the arts and make our world the colorful, beautiful place that it is by helping people like me see the great things a small group of dedicated individuals can accomplish with a lot of hard work, persistence, and gray cloth. Finally, I would like to thank every person reading this program. Without your support, we would merely be a band of poor blind players sounding furiously to the dark. Enjoy the show. 4 History of the Arnold Community Theatre Troupe A Christmas Carol (Winter 2010/2011) During the winter of 2010/2011, some Fox High School Theatre Troupe alumni produced a stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol in honor of the late Michael Nash, a beloved teacher, actor, and mentor to many Fox High School students. Because it was so well-received by the community and everyone involved had so much fun, the Arnold Community Theatre Troupe was born. One-Act Festival (Summer 2011) For the first official production of ACTT, a one-act festival was held. It included six community-written and -directed one-act plays. This production gave members of the community a chance to show their artistic talents and established ACTT as a community organization. It s a Wonderful Life (Winter 2011/2012) Next winter ACTT produced "It's a Wonderful Life," adapted for the stage by Doug Rand. This was a great way for ACTT to bring people together in the holiday spirit and experience the joy of a full-length performance once again. One-Act Festival (Spring 2012) The 2011 One-Act Festival was so well-received that ACTT decided to hold another one so that even more of the community could be involved. This festival featured four community-written and -directed one-acts and was another great opportunity for Jefferson County playwrights and performers. The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon (Summer 2012) This summer, ACTT decided it was about time for a comedy. The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a whirlwind of hilarious fairy tales, and we hope you have as much fun as we do at this performance. What's Next? Witness for the Prosecution (January 2013) Coming soon to a theater near you, this Agatha Christie murder mystery filled with suspense, intrigue, and shocking plot twists is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. I wanted to share what I'd learned from my experience directing shows, both with ACTT and elsewhere. In the process, I got to know Mike better (he's a great guy) and I got heavily invested in this awesome show. I think the cast has had a great time working on this production, and the rehearsals have been a lot of fun. I'm especially thrilled about how positive and supportive the cast is, building each other up and taking care of business. I'm so proud of everyone's hard work, and everyone has come so far. I think this production has been largely successful, at least from our perspective. But of course, you the audience will be the final judges. Here's hoping that we break a leg and you split a seam!
