As a PASSPORT Member you can also participate in art-making activities, interact with artists and CAP UCLA staff, and connect with other students who are passionate about the arts. 4 Anchor Destinations Fall Anchor Destination #1 BARBER SHOP CHRONICLES Thu, Oct 18, 8pm Freud Playhouse One day. Six cities. A thousand stories. The barbershop has historically served as a newsroom, political platform, local hot spot and confession box. This dynamic new play explores how African men gather in barbershops to vent, share stories and discuss the world.

5 Anchor Destination #2 UNCABARET 25TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW & CELEBRATION Sun, Nov 18, 7pm The Theatre at Ace Hotel L.A. s legendary UnCabaret celebrates 25 years of wildly fun, idiosyncratic and intimate performance with this one-time-only evening of outrageous stand-up, music and never-before-seen comedy footage from the UnCabaret vault.

Called the voice of the resistance by The New York Times, she is an essential commentator on feminism, violence, ecology, hope and everything in between. Terri Lyne Carrington Fri, Nov 9, 8pm Royce Hall The first woman to receive the Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, this award-winning jazz drummer and composer leads an all-star ensemble. Sweet Honey In The Rock Fri, Nov 30, 8pm Royce Hall Sweet Honey in the Rock is an all-woman a cappella group whose whose unique vocal styles merge blues, gospel, rap, reggae, African chants, hip-hop, and jazz improvisation. A Thousand Thoughts A Live Documentary by Sam Green and Kronos Quartet Fri, Dec 7, 8pm The Theatre at Ace Hotel Two Oscar-nominated filmmakers team up with the Grammy-winning Kronos Quartet for a wildly creative multimedia performance about the art of making music.

8 Anchor Destinations Winter Anchor Destination #3 THE GREAT TAMER Fri, Jan 11, 8pm Royce Hall Part theater, part pageant, part dance, The Great Tamer is a visually stunning and surreal spectacle that grapples with the meaning of life, the mystery of death, and the march of time.

9 Anchor Destination #4 THE SOUL REBELS Sat, Feb 16, 8pm The Theatre at Ace Hotel These New Orleans musicians blend funk, soul, hip-hop, jazz and rock to create a unique sound described as the missing link between Public Enemy and Louis Armstrong.

Jesmyn Ward & Mitchell Jackson in Conversation Thu, Feb 7, 8pm Royce Hall National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward discusses her work with writer Mitchell Jackson, exploring how their experiences growing up poor and black have influenced their writing. Andrew Dawson: Space Panorama & Spirit of the Ring Thu, Feb 21 Sun, Feb 24 Royce Hall Rehearsal Room Dawson, a dancer, theater artist and puppeteer recreates the epic stories of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing and Wagner s Ring Cycle using only his hands! Meredith Monk: Cellular Songs Sat, Mar 2, 8pm Royce Hall Meredith Monk and her vocal ensemble draw inspiration from cellular activity to create a performance that explores human behavior in a tumultuous world. Batsheva Dance Company: Venezuela Fri, Mar 15, 8pm Royce Hall Batsheva is one of the world s most esteemed dance companies. In this new piece an LA premiere they examine the conflict between pure movement and the content it represents.

13 Anchor Destination #5 Anoushka Shankar Fri, Apr 19, 8pm Royce Hall Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar is a singular figure in the Indian classical and progressive world music scenes. Through her bold and collaborative approach, she has advanced the versatility of the sitar across musical genres. Side Trip Destinations Spring Pick one or both! The White Album by Joan Didion Performance created by Lars Jan/ Early Morning Opera April 5 7 (times TBD) Freud Playhouse The White Album is a multimedia theatrical performance that adapts writer Joan Didion s seminal essay using observation, storytelling, audience participation and architecture. The Gloaming Fri, Apr 12, 8pm The Theatre at Ace Hotel The Gloaming is a rich mix of traditional Irish music combined with modern jazz, contemporary classical, and experimental compositions. These are classic reels and jigs expanded to new heights.

14 CAP UCLA PASSPORT: How Does It Work? A PASSPORT costs $20.00, and you will receive two tickets to five performances on the CAP season (two in Fall and Winter quarters, and one in Spring). We call these five shows, Anchor Destinations. These five shows will be loaded onto your Bruin Card. Bring your BC with you to the theater on the night of the show. Check in at the PASSPORT Booth, we will swipe your card and give you the tix with your seat location. In addition to the five Anchor shows on the series, you can also pick two additional Side Trips each quarter for only $5 each! Claiming your tickets: You will get a reminder before each show. To claim your ticket you must RSVP by the deadline. PASSPORT Check-In opens one hour before each performance. If you lose or forget your actual PASSPORT, no worries the tickets are on your Bruin Card. You can choose two additional Side Trip shows each quarter. When you RSVP, you will confirm your ticket(s) by paying $5. The five Anchor shows are included in your $20 up-front cost.

15 Friends Fly Free! If you would like to bring a friend, RSVP for you and a guest. The limit on Friends Fly Free tickets is one per show, but the regular UCLA Student Ticket price is only $15. If you purchase a Side Trip show for $5, your friend comes for free: that s two tix for only $2.50! Join us before each Anchor Destination to meet fellow travelers and learn a bit about the artists and the process. Throughout the year, there will be bonus PASSPORT activities: art-making, talks, free food watch your for updates. Not sure where the performance is, or how to get there?
