And any, how many? As toe look back we realze that there are many thngs we mght have done, whch we ddn't do. And there are some thngs we've done that we wsh we'd let undone. However: the uture s startng to ran ts mnutes and chances on us even as we wrte, so we must look to t. But beore layng down our pencl we would Jke to enter a word o deense. We have been accused, rom tme to tme, o dong anythng, n ths column, but that whch should be done. Doorways n study halls are jammed at class tme and we wrte about the jammng o le at any tme; games are won and we talk about the wnnng o mental battles; noted men tell us thngs and we hold orth on what musc and the long bow o the cloud arrowed ar have to tell us! Yes: we do ths: we admt t. But we do have our reason. And t s, smply, that we are commentng on le, on your real le, your nner le, the le that wll be wth you long ater the thngs o the passng moment have luttered nto that Grand Canyon whch s a common grave or gants; and a moment ago we noted the passng o one gant. We do not make a practse o reerrng you, n ths column, to somethng else n the Magazne. But we would lke to say that n the edtoral ths week you wll nd our comment on Chrstmas. Our comment on the new year wll" come, regularly, once a week, rom January to June. Our sands o space are runnng low; and we do wsh you a Merry Chrstmas, merry because o renewed le and heghtened awareness. 2 392 The Notre Dame Scholastc THE WEEK ~RANK CORBETT, a member o that select and sempternal arstocracy whch exerts tsel nowhere, yet s elt everywhere, walked o wth the Breen Oratorcal laurels jauntly crownng hs massve Celtc pate. He walked o the platorm and on to ame amd the cheers and encouragements o hs ellows and rends, and receved rom ther hands generous portons o sprted apprecaton. Frank las been ghtng appendcts a good share o the year; he was consequently overcrowded wth work, and hs vctory comes hard ought and well won. As one veteran to another we salute Corbett, and honor hs vctory as worthy a Fghtng rshman. RRTATONS are the prde o the college man. They are classed wth cgarettes and alarm clocks as one o the earlest o essentals. We shall mss a ew o these petty nusances durng vacaton, only to greet them wth renewed annoyance when we return. Faucets that won't stay on, - shoestrngs that break every mornng, rados that have no ambton beyond WSBT, and toothpaste that Jerssts n tyng to be petred. Not to orget the nsstent bothers, the ones who snarl, "Uhluh, come to the Palay everj^ nte," and ther more presumptuous ssters, who nasally drawl, "Meet me n town Wednesday, Bll, and we'll have dnner together." These latter are the standng jokes ^they stand, and stand, and stand untl our local hotel mezzannes look lke the watng rooms n somebody's sororty house. Chrstmas wll releve us o all ths or a whle, and that wll be a rele. From now on tll vacaton t's a case o every man or hmsel, and may the rst man home be the last man back. Everyone should have a Merry Chrstmas, t's tradtonal and everythng, and we must clng to our tradtons. You clng to yours and 'll clng to mne, and meanwhle we'll remember the days when-we rected, "'Twas the Nght Beore Chrstmas" and wsh everyone the best o luck, and a very merry Chrstmas. j ^ OU, beng the thnkng sort o man, requently look at your lathered j'owls n the mrror, and, relectng upon our advanced cvlzaton, congratulate yoursel upon the saety razors and snug ecency o modernty. We change everythng we touch, even tryng to change ourselves. And not satsed wth havng brought the lght o day nto nght, we are now shroudng days wth some o the shadoa\'y ndenteness o nght. As proo o ths darkenng o our days we have but to realze that the holy days are becomng holdays. Peasants the world over always had ther buoonery and dancng on holy days or t s one o the paradoxes o ath that m6n who cannot play cannot pray. Chrstmas and ts holness was but enlanced wth a bt o houy and mstletoe; but today some men thnk holness casts a shadow over the holly, and really wthers the mstletoe. Chrstmas Santa to chldren, rest to workmen, a home-gatherng to elderly parents, a vacaton to us; and the other meanng, the rst and the last. Too oten we remember rst meanngs last. B CRP, the newest perormer n the publcatons troujje, was taken rom room to room on the camj)us last week. He made a bt o a bow, and ater the embarrassment o ntroductons, went on to seek new rends. The young artst wore a quet green j'acket, and was n a modest mood throughout. Modesty s always welcomed n the young. had only one msgvng rom my ew moments o ntmacy wth the new trouper. He seems to be o the opnon, rather wdespread n these hazy days, that a strng o dots tralng ater a ew words wll convey some knd o an mpresson to a reader. Sentences that want to extend themselves nto nnty are qute apt to be as ncomprehensble as eternty.

The Notre Dame Scholastc 393 FRST SSUE OF "SCRP" HAS LARGE SALE More than three hundred copes o the rst ssue o Sop have been sold already, and only hal o the halls have been canvassed. The South Bend Netvs-Tmes and the South Bend To-bune have gven much avorable comment on the new magazne, prasng ts dstnctve appearance and the excellence o ts contents. Scrp has establshed tsel as the lterary magazne o Notre Dame. Plans are already n the makng or the next ssue, whch s to be publshed n March. The cover-desgn has not yet been dentely decded upon, because the edtors have several desgns submtted by varous students to choose rom. Many well-known campus wrters are already at work upon contrbutons or the next ssue, and the edtors beleve that ths ssue wll be even better than the rst. All contrbutons to the new magazne should be sent to Mr. Hetger, 305 Walsh Hall. Many students sent n contrbutons or the rst ssue; the edtors hope that many more students wll nterest themselves n wrtng poems, short stores, and essays or the next one. CAPTAN LAW SPEAKS AT BANQUET John Law, captan o the ootball team was guest speaker at the Retz Memoral Hgh School, Evansvlle, last Sunday Evenng. Durng the banquet monograms were awarded to varous members o the Hgh School team; Captan Law spoke on current athletc events and gave several starlng accounts o ormer ootball games. He ncluded n hs talk a ew remnscences o nterest to the young athletes and ended hs speech wth a ew words on Notre Dame sprt. JUNOR CLASS PN COM MTTEE ANNOUNCED Along wth the announcement o the personnel' o the commttee whch wll have charge o the 930 Junor Prom, comes the appontment, by Vernon J. Knox, presdent o the Junor Class, o the commttee whch wll have charge o selectng and dstrbutng the class pns. Vncent Busch, a Junor n the College o Arts and Letters, wll be charman o ths mportant commttee. He wll be asssted by the ollowng men: Harold J. O'Connor, Morrssey Hall; Mchael J. Knney, Badn Hall; Joseph J. Hughes, St. Edward's Hall; James S. Swt, O-Campus; Fred Raham, Corby Hall; Jack Lynch, Lyons Hall. The desgn o the pn wll be, wth a ew mnor changes, smlar to that o the past ew years. Due to the number o companes whch have expressed a desre to bd on the order, t s expected that the qualty o the pn wll be somewhat mproved. To date, about ten o the leadng jewelry manuacturers n the country have expressed ther ntentons o presentng pns or the consderaton o the commttee. The selecton o the pn wll be made about the mddle o January at whch tme each company wll present ts pns. Selecton wll be made on the bass o qualty and workmanshp as well as the relablty and reputaton o the company submttng the bd. NOTRE DAME PROFESSOR HONORED Proessor Ray Hoyer, head o the Boy Gudance Department, has receved notcaton o hs appontment to serve on a commttee o the nternatonal Boys' Work Councl, created to comple a pamphlet coverng the hstory, program, prncples, and scope o every exstng organzaton engaged n the eld o boy gudance. Ths commttee was authorzed at the 929 meetng o the Councl held n Toronto n October. Proessor Hoyer was present at ths meetng and read a paper on "Leadershp Tranng." t s probable that he wll be asked to collect the data on the varous Catholc agences engaged n boy gudance and to prepare ths materal or the proposed publcaton. Ths wll be the rst attempt n the hstory o boys' work to brng together ths sort o materal. CHEMSTRY CLUB HOLDS MEETNG The Chemstry Club met n Chemstry Hall on December 4. Addresses were made by Messrs. Herzog and Garza, who dscussed vax-ous experments on the rate o reactons. Mr. Merrtt Otto spoke on the "Hstory o Chemstry," an exceedngly nterestng topc to put beore a club o ths knd. Mr. Wllam Gnder read a paper on the "Open Hearth System," ater whch another dscusson took place. Proessor Fronng, head o the Department o Chemstry, outlned the purpose o the club and advocated a closer nterest n the events t entertans. Rereshments and smokes were se-ved at the concluson o the program.

4 394 The Notre Dame Scholastc A Man About the Campus Tomme Keegan should really have been /vrtten up along wth Bob Kuhn. For some reason or other we have always assocated them together; probably because Tomme was Tomme Keegan Edtor-n-Che, and Bob Busness Manager, o last year's Dome. n act, we became so used to thnkng o them as a team ^Keegan-Kuhn ^that or a long tme we dd not get ther names straght, and called Keegan "Bob," and Kuhn "Tomme," wth ne dsregard or accuracy. Tomme's che actvty s debatng, n whch he has dstngushed hmsel snce hs reshman year, when he was very actve n nterhall debatng. He has been a Wrangler or three years. Last 3'^ear the Wranglers apponted hm as charman o nter-hall debatng, whch honor he stll holds. The Unversty has recognzed Tomme's orensc ablty by makng hm an undergradaute assstant n the department o speech. He also s makng a strong bd or a place on the varsty debatng team ths year and wll dsplay hs speakng ablty next Monday evenng when he wll be one o the men to represent the Unversty n ts debate wth Purdue Unversty over rado staton WLS. Tom, n addton to hs debatng ablty, has ound tme to serve as edtor o the 929 Dome, as mentoned beore, and dd a very nce job o edtng the Notre Dame yearbook. n addton, he served on the stalf o the SCHOLASTC or a year, and at present s a member o the Juggler sta, contrbutng some very good copy or every number. Last year when a number o ellows on the campus sought an outlet or ther vews on jhlosophy, lterature and current events, the Spectators' Club was organzed. Tom was a charter member and one o ts ounders. He stll takes an actve part n the dscussons o the club on all matters. Ths marks the last year that Tom wll be a-ound the campus or he s a senor n the College o Arts and Letters. Hs home town s Eockord, llnos. WLK AND DUNN WN "DOME" PRZES Joseph A. Wlk, a junor n the College o Arts and Lette's, has been announced the wnner o rst prze n the most unusual contest ever held at the Unversty, to secure subscrptons or the Dome. Mr. Wlk s an o-campus student and hs home town s Adams, Massachusetts. As the recpent o rst prze he wll receve a trp to Europe next summer. Joseph Dunn, a junor n the College o Commerce, whose home town s El Paso, Texas, has been awarded second prze o seventy-ve dollars n cash. The contest, extendng over a perod o three weeks, has awakeneed keen nterest among the students partcpatng and has been most successul, accordng to Harley L. Mc- Devtt, graduate manager o publcatons. Over 2,300 subscrptons have been receved, establshng a record or campus Dome sales. As a result o ths extensve campagn the Dome crculaton s now one o the hghest among smlar publcatons among Amercan unverstes. 5nnmn»nn""l ATTENTON, SENORS AND ACTVTES MEN! Because o the added busness durng the Chrstmas season the Dome photographer has been called back to Chcago several days n advance o the stated tme. Due to ths act he wll be back on the campus the rst week ater Chrstmas vacaton, or three days, "nose who have not as yet had ther Dome pctures taken please take notce. Accordng to Edtor-n-che = Robert L. Pendergast, the sen- or secton o the Dome must be arranged n January. There- ore ths wll absolutely be the = last tme the photographer wll = be on the campus. s B"..Q S. A. C. Notes -»> At the week's meetng o the S. A. C, Bob Hellrung, charman, read a letter rom the Secretary o the Notre Dame Club o New York. Tle letter was one o prase or the perormance o the band at the Army game, and the Secretary o the New York Alumn expressed the wsh o that organzaton that t mght have the pleasure o assstng the band n makng the trp to uture Army games. Wth the approach o the holday season the Councl has been busy grantng concessons to students or the sellng o varous artcles on the campus. At the last meetng the sellng rghts to "Natonal Champonshp" banners were granted to Manny Veze, and Joe Corea was gven the concesson or "Natonal Champonshp" stckers. The S. A. C. s plannng to mprove the organzed cheerng and sngng durng the basketball season. Bob Hellrung has emphaszed the necessty o ths snce the home games n the new stadum next year wll requre that the student body be well acquanted wth the school songs and cheers. There wll be an opportunty durng the wnter or the cheer leaders to work up a sprt n the stands, and the student body s asked to co-operate wth them whole heartedly. "The Hke Song," "The Vctory March," and "Down The Lne," are three songs that every student at Notre Dame should know. t s probable that most Freshmen wll have memorzed them or rendton durng the holday season. Upper classmen are asked to try to nd the rght words to ll n the spaces where they usually hum. The band wll be on hand at all the basketball games; so Joe Casasanta's boys wll supply the tunes and t wll be up to the student body to know the words.

5 The Notre Dame Scholastc 395 A Man You Know t s wth msgvng that the wrter attempts to gve anythng that presumes to be a ar and accurate dea o the character and a c c o m plshments o Proessor Henry B. Fronng, head o the D e p a rtment o Chemstry. Such an dea cannot be derved rom an objectve apprasal and a Pro. Henry B. Fronng rectaton o acts. But, snce we are lmted by our medum, we shall present such acts and mpressons as may ndcate somethng o Mr. Fronng, the man, and Proessor Fronng, the teacher. We learn that Proessor Fronng obtaned hs A. B. degree rom St. Joseph's College, Eensselae-, ndana n 908, and hs A. M. degree rom Oho State Unversty n 92. The ollowng year, 92-93, he spent as a graduate student at Johns Hopkns Unversty, returnng then to Oho State Unversty where he taught courses n bacterology and chemstry untl 99. n 920, ater a year spent n ndustral work as research chemst and bacterologst or the Nzer Laboratores n Detrot and Cleveland, Proessor Fronng came to Notre Dame to assume the dutes o Head o the Department o Chemstry, teachng classes n organc and physcal chemstry as well. Somethng o Proessor Fronng's ablty as a ar-seeng organzer s evdent when we understand that the Department o Chemstry has more than kept pace wth the natural expanson o the Unversty snce 920, both n the sze o enrollment and n educatonal standards. Ths year there are more than 700 students regstered or classes taught n that department. There has also been a decded ncrease n the number o graduate students durng the past ew years. Chemcal rms such as the Du Pont Company and the Grassell Chemcal Company have recognzed the Department o Chemstry o the Unversty n establshng ellowshps. All o ths cannot but redound not only to hs credt as a capable admnstrator, but also as an educator o unusual vson. One o the best evdences o the worth-whle work that P'oessor Fronng s dong here at Notre Dame s the act that he was the rst recpent o the annual Lay Faculty Award. Ths award, a prze o 500 dollars, s bestowed upon the member o the lay aculty whose work or the year s selected as beng the most mertorous. Proessor Fronng also has se-ved as a member o the Unversty Councl and s on the Laetare Medal Commttee. Perhaps more than any other one thng, Proessor Fronng s known as a rend o the students. Almost any aternoon between 2:30 and 6:00 p. m. he may be ound talkng not at, but wth some student, helpng, advsng, and (occasonally) reprmandng. Yet always the student goes away, knowng that he has been arly and constructvely dealt wth. Ask an J'- o the students! They could not do better than to reer you to the dedcaton o the senor number o the Catalyzer or May, 927. The dedcaton o ths number reads: "To Proessor H. B. Fronng, A. M., a true educator who s ever nstllng nto hs students an rresstble urge to know the truth, the Class o 927 wth a great debt o grattude and apprecaton dedcates ths Senor Numcer." Proessor Fronng's work at Notre Dame, we say, certanly presents tsel as a testmony o constant devoton to the Unversty, to hs Department, and to hs students. "TAMNG OF THE SHREW" TO BE PRESENTED MONDAY Wllam Shakespeare's "Tamng o the Shrew" wll be presented n Washngton Hall on Monday evenng, December 6, by members o the Unversty Players. The cast or ths presentaton wll nclude Mrs. Norbert Engels, Vrglus Phllp, Harry Merdznsk, Arthur Dennehy, Bll Sherman, John Nowery, James Phelan, Jerome Crowley, Frank Walker, Vctor Martzel, Robert Hare, and Leon Zabrske. The nducton wll be presented by Jake Le sen, Mke O'Hara, Joseph Beeman, and Frank Mhan. The Unversty Theater, whch s sponsorng ths presentaton, s an amalgamaton o all the actvtes o the Unversty whch have to do wth dramatc art. By means o ts organzaton all campus work along ths lne s unted, and Notre Dame's hgh standard o dramatc endeavor s mantaned. The Unversty Theater drects student playwrtng, drecton, presentaton, and busness management. The plays whch t has produced snce ts oundaton n 926 have been very well receved. Shakespeare's "Julus Caesa-" was successully produced n 927. So ths year's presentaton s awated wth a great deal o nterest. The players, under the drecton o Proessor Frank Kelly, have been rehearsng or several weeks, and wll undoubtedly present the play n an apprecatve and competent ashon. No admsson wll be charged. KNGHTS OF COLUMBUS MEET. Last Monday evenng, December 9th, the ^jghts o Columbus held ther regular b-monthly meetng n Councl Chamber n Walsh Hall. The busness porton o the meetng was run through very rapdly as many promnent guests were present. The tem o major nterest was the announcement o the rst degree, Sunday aternoon, December 5th, n the South Bend Chambers, at two o'clock. The Reverend Thomas Lynch, chaplan o the LaPorte Councl, spoke on the present day need o ntellgent Catholc laymen, and urged all present to retan ther membershp n the Order ater lea\-ng school Otto D. Dorsey, Dstrct Deputy, Frank P. Shake, Grand Knght o the LaPorte Councl, Joseph and Albert Kashmer were also present rom the LaPorte Councl. Grand Knght Egan, o the South Bend Councl nvted the members to vst the down to%vn Chamber, and Lusus Mller, Dstrct Deputy, told o the $20,000 home beng rased by that Councl, and asked the support o the Notre Dame Councl n the dsposal o tckets or t. Danel Butler, Supreme Agent, was the prncpal speaker, and sad that the Order was n the best condton t had ever been n. He quoted acts and gures n statng that the Order was not slppng ether n membershp or actvtes. Musc or the evenng was urnshed by Jery Roach and Johnny Beljon's Madcap Tro. Rereshments were served durng the meetng. NOTCE! Knghts o Columbus rst degree ntaton Sunday, Dec. 5,' at The South Bend K. o C. Chambers 2 p. m.

6 396 The.Notre Dame Scholastc DR.KHARASCH ADDRESSES AMERCAN CHEMCAL SOCETY HERE The last regular meetng o the St. Joseph Valley Secton o the Amercan Chemcal Socety was held n Chemstry Hall at Notre Dame, Wednesday evenng, Dec., at 7:30 p. m. The usual dnner precedng the meetng was held n the Unversty Dnng Hall at 6:00 p. m. The speaker or the meetng was Dr. Klarasch, Proessor o Organc Chemstry at the Unversty o Clcago. Proessor Klarasch s an outstandng authorty on the electrc concept o valence n the nterpretaton o organc reactons. The ttle o hs talk was "Trends n Organc Concepts." CHRSTMAS "JUGGLER" TO OFFER NEW FEATURES When the Chrstmas Juggler ap-- pears on the Notre Dame campus Monday nght, the Funny Fellow wll oer two new eatures as a specal holday gt to the students. One o them wll be a theme whch s carred out n the book, perhaps the rst tme the theme dea has been used n a college humorous magazne, and the other s a colored nsde secton. The theme o the book wll be the Chrstmas story o the Notre Dame Juggler. The cover llustraton, done n splendd colors through the process method, begns the theme, whch contnues n the nsde secton o the book, clmaxng n the eature wlch carres the colored llustraton. n addton to that, the monthly eature artcle ths month s "The Santa Claus Scandal," wrtten by Proessor Charles Phllps. A wealth o materal or both lterary and art dvsons o the book made possble a very choce selecton, so both parts o the book contan only the best materal. Tle art work, especally, s very ne, and receved much avorable comment rom the other college edtors to whom t was sho\\t at the annual college comcs conventon last week. The next ssue, the Home Town Number, wll be out n the mddle o January, as usual, nstead o beng postponed to the end o the month. Ths necesstates most o the materal beore the Chrstmas vacaton, and, at the very latest, the Saturday ater returnng, whch -wall be the deadlne or the number. "JUGGLER" S PRASED BY CONTEMPORARES AT CONVENTON Notre Dame's Juggler receved much prase at the annual conventon o the Md-West College Comcs Assocaton, held at owa Unversty last week-end. Most outstandng n prase was Mr. George Eggleston, college art edtor o College Humor, who consdered the drawng by Echard Sullvan, n the Freshman ssue, the best pece o art work he had seen n college magaznes or some years. The Juggle-'s monthly eature story, and ts judcous selecton o long and short materal, were the subjects o an nterestng sesson the last aternoon o the conventon, and were suggested as a pattern or other magaznes to ollow both n make-up and contents. The conventon was attended by most o the college comc edtors o the md-west. The rst aternoon was devoted to busness problems, n wlch Mr. Harley McDevtt's dscuson o the possblty o automoble advertsng, as he tred t n the Juggler, was oremost. The Juggler rates and method o handlng advertsng were also consdered. Saturday mornng, Mr. Eggleston talked to the conventons about plans whch hs magazne has n mnd. He also took part n the edtoral dscusson" that aternoon, durng whch John Nanovc. Edtor o the Juggler, explaned the methods o gatherng and selectng the materal, arrangng the makeup, and dstrbutng the magazne, the day o the sale. 9 The Notre Dame Scholast C 399 EDTORS PAGE 3 USerrp Cl)rstma = Un M <auestum! The SCHOLASTC, on the occason o ts last appearance o the year 929, extends to all ts readers best wshes or a Merry Chrstmas and a Happy New Year. Once agan the great estval has come around; gts are purchased, preparatons are made, excted whspers are exchanged, the wnd s a sharp kne stabbng space, and the snow w-tes a whte perod ater the many worded sentence o the year 929. t s customary or one temporarly n possesson o advce gvng powers to rase a solemn hand, (wth a solemn gesture!) ntended to warn the busy mllons that they are orgettng the real occason whch caused ths one day, but a wave n the ocean o days, to surge above ts mates and swell nto a lghthouse sheddng lght over the ar, blackly tossng waters. n such a gesture there s, o course, a certan amount o truth; and yet we are nclned, on the one hand, to overdo the gesture, and on the other, to pay no heed, to say "Yes, you' re rght" and then hurry on. Not that we ntend to wrte a mnature sermon; but t does seem to us that some words, on an aspect o Chrstmas too oten overlooked even by accomplshed sgnal setters, are not altogether out o place, Chrst came that men mght have le and that more abundantly. He showed men a Way o Lvng that was at a ar remove rom the majorty o methods o le o the tme. By brngng men to a renewed conscousness o the uture le He brought them to a greater awareness o the glores o the present le. Hs comng nto the world was as the comng o a quverng stalk o dawn ban-, nerng the grey east wth lags o lght; hs passage through that world a low o musc such as men never had heard beore, a sudden drt o roses n the sparsely lowered gardens o ther souls. On December twenty-th o ths month we wll celebrate that comng; but, wll we, as the Adeste Fdeles rngs out, see that slender, quverng stalk lutng ts way up the canyon o Nght? Wll the luted notes o lght speak to us as only the musc o lght can? As we wsh one another "Merry Chrstmas" wll we have n mnd a stable that was the brthplace o a new world, a brth that was a blast o trumpets across the lands and waters o that world? n our concern wth the means let us not orget the end; and when on Chrstmas mornng Day bursts her bombs on the ar horzon, let us remember that the slent thunder o the explosons once heralded such a brth as man has never known, ahcays herald a word that s a star brngng man to the oot o ts ladders o lght Love. 13 The Notre Dame Scholast C 403 ^SPOKT5 Lake Forest Cagers Are Swamped, 49-2 McCarthy and Smth Lead Notre Dame Quntet to Vctory THE Notre Dame Blue and Gold cagers tred ther "darndesor an extra pont to make an even ty ponts but the nal gun prevented and they were orced to rest content wth a mere 49 to 2 rampage over a game and hard tryng Lake Forest quntet on the local loor last Saturday evenng. Usng a total o nneteen men n the uneven contest Coach Koegan let hs charges run the gamut o the Lake Forest net just about as they pleased. Jack McCarthy and Ed Smth were able to score over hal o the total number o ther team's ponts, McCarthy gettng sx goals and three ree throws whle Smth was obtanng ve eld shots or a grand total o 25 ponts. Notre Dame dsplayed a lttle better brand o passng than was seen n the rst game wth Kalamazoo. The, passng had ar precson and no one man attempted to hold on to the ball or any great length o tme. Apparently Keogan has elmnated the one outstandng ault whch was notceable n the ntal ray. Mc Carthy, Smth, and Donovan carred on a sustaned passng game rght under the Lake Forest basket at the start o the second hal whch had the vstors arly dazzled. Ed Smth started the game o wth a bang, droppng n a long and a short goal or the ntal our ponts. Kunz opened the scorng or the Foresters by makng good hs two ree throws. Newbold veered o to the corner to snk one or~ Notre Dame, and ater Crowe put one n rom the oul lne, Newbold drbbled through the vstors' deense to count rom under the net. Crowe passed to Smth who very prettly caged a shot rom md-loor. Ferzacca Scm'es or Vstors Ferzacca clever Lake Forest orward saved hs teammates ater Ed Smth, Guard they had been passng the ball aromd blndly, by takng t down the center o the loor and droppng t through the meshes, makng the score to 5 n Notre Dame's avor. On a quck pass rom Joe Gavn, McCarthy drbbled o to the rght sde o the loor and lpped a shot through the net or the Gold and Blue. Donovan counted one rom the oul lne and mmedately ater Ferzacca put n a short goal rom the let corner, brngng the score to 5 to 7, wth Notre Dame stll n the lead. Mc Carthy counted another goal roh under the basket and Ashton made good hs oul shot. McCarthy Agan Counts Ths tme rom the oul lne, Mc Carthy scored and ater Gavn twsted one n rom the corner on a pass rom DeCook, McCarthy pvoted under the basket or another goal just as the gun went o, majrkng the end o the rst hal. Notre Dame was well n the lead at ths tme wth a score o 22 to.8. As the second perod began t was evdent that the Notre Dame shots were rngng truer to orm than beore and McCarthy agan took the lmelght, snkng a oul shot and drbblng under the basket or another goal. Strako, Lake Forest orward, surprsed the crowd by meshng a long shot rom the center o the loor. Smth came down to take a pass n the letj corner and placed the ball through te net.
