We present high quality and innovative work, which provokes debate and emotionally engages. Located in Brent, the most culturally diverse borough in London, we are a local venue with an international vision. Converted from a music and dance hall, the Tricycle Theatre opened in 1980 as the permanent home of the Wakefield Tricycle Company. In April 2018 the Tricycle officially rebranded and changed its name to Kiln Theatre as part of the vision for its renovated building, locating it ever more closely with Kilburn and building on the Tricycle s artistic legacy through an exciting programme of new work. Today, with Indhu Rubasingham as Artistic Director and Daisy Heath as Executive Director, Kiln Theatre continues its reputation for world-class British and international work, reflecting the exceptional diversity of its local community. The new theatre s a hit The Telegraph Our building refurbishment project was completed in September 2018, when Kiln Theatre reopened with a 292 seat theatre alongside a 300 seat cinema, a beautiful bar and café, plus three rehearsal spaces which are used for our productions, workshops and Creative Learning projects. We want everyone to experience the power of theatre. 2 OUR PROPOSITION Communicate Universal Truths Our building is in an area where today 84% of young people have English as their second language. We make theatre that crosses continents and tells big stories about human connections across cultures, race and languages. The bolder our vision and its delivery, the bigger the impact this programming can have on the cultural landscape. OUR MISSION Make Theatre for Everyone Our doors are open for all. We produce world-class theatre that provokes, entertains and appeals to our exceptionally diverse society in Brent and beyond. For the first season after re-opening our building, we have over 10,000 tickets at or less and we commit to offer 2,000 free tickets to people and communities who may not otherwise access theatre. Kiln Theatre encourages artists of all ages and backgrounds. Our ambitious Creative Learning programme aims to champion the imagination, aspiration and potential of the Brent community young and old. We invest in creating meaningful relationships with young people to inspire and encourage their creativity, their confidence and self-esteem. We work with older people to create a thriving community around our theatre. Kiln Theatre Kiln Theatre presents around six productions per year, many of these are commissioned and written specifically for this theatre, or are programmed in collaboration with national or international companies. Recent productions include Handbagged by Moira Buffini, which won an Oliver and transferred to London s West End, Red Velvet by Lolita Chakrabarti (Critics Circle Award, Evening Standard Award), which transferred to St Ann s Warehouse and the West End, The Great Wave by Francis Turnly, in a co-production with the National Theatre, White Teeth, Zadie Smith s Kilburn epic in a musical adaptation for the stage by Stephen Sharkey and Paul Englishby, and Florian Zeller s The Son A devastating visceral impact Telegraph, Feb Kiln Cinema Our 300-seat cinema shows the best art-house and mainstream films alongside festivals and special Q&A screenings. Recent partners have included: NT Live; Globe on Screen; BFI London Film Festival; Images of Black Women Film Festival; DocHouse; Kilburn Film Festival. FUNDING Our annual turnover is approximately 3.5 million. Kiln Theatre receives funding from the Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation. Other income comes from box office ticket sales and other revenue streams, with a final sum generated through fundraising.

3 THE ROLE Role Title: Reporting to: Location: Associate Director Artistic Director 269 Kilburn High Road, London, NW6 7JR At this significant moment for Kiln Theatre, we are looking for a director, producer and/or playwright/dramaturg to join our team as Associate Director. Depending on the appointment, this role may include directing. Purpose Support Indhu Rubasingham, Artistic Director of Kiln Theatre, in the delivery of the artistic programme. Work to increase the number of diverse voices in the programme and under commission. Lead on the mentoring and training of more emerging directors and other theatre artists, including supporting directors engaged by the Creative Learning Department, and line managing Kiln Theatre s Resident Director. You will work closely with the Artistic Director and the Executive Director at Kiln Theatre as a member of the organisation s Senior Team. This role will enable the development of leadership skills, and bring insight into the artistic direction and inner workings of a producing theatre. This is a fixed term position for 2 years, from June 2019 (exact start date tbc). Key Responsibilities Support Artistic Director, including deputising for her role when appropriate. Help to build the upcoming artistic programme with Artistic Director, contributing to, developing, supporting and enhancing the artistic vision. Energise and encourage the expansion of Kiln Theatre s artistic programme, developing touring and transfers ideas and making connections with other companies, alongside the Executive Director. Work in close collaboration with the Creative Learning Department, particularly supporting their output involving a professional creative team. Contribute to any dramaturgy the department requires. Be responsible for new writing development alongside the Artistic Director and New Work Associate, including leading on commission ideas and nurturing relationships with writers, agents and other theatre industry contacts. Manage research and development budgets for new plays and season preparation. Carry out administrative tasks on behalf of the Executive Team and Board as required. Identify and recommend new work/artists from across the UK and internationally, building relationships with individuals and organisations.

4 Support the Fundraising Team at Kiln Theatre, working in collaboration with the Director of Fundraising on funding applications, in donor meetings and at events as required. Contribute to the operation and development of the theatre as part of the Senior Team. Represent Kiln Theatre at industry events, networks, conferences, meetings in the UK and abroad. General Promote and maintain the mission and values of Kiln Theatre, as set out by the Artistic Director, in both artistic programming and management practice. Attend run-throughs, technical rehearsals, previews, press nights, Creative Learning activities, other performances and events including fundraising events, internal and external meetings as appropriate. Comply with all statutory requirements, including but not limited to Safeguarding, Equalities Act 2010 and Health & Safety regulations. Provide quarterly written reports to the Artistic Director, for use at board meetings. Keep abreast of current thinking and practice in theatre and help to maintain the Kiln Theatre s profile as a centre of excellence. Attend and participate in such training as is required by the Artistic Director and to ensure fulfilment of the job description. Carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required by the Artistic Director. 5 Terms and Conditions: Contract: Hours: Salary: Fixed term 2 years Full-time, with an average of 45 hours per week (normal office hours are 10am-6pm). Some evening and weekend work will be required. 31,000 per annum Annual Leave: 20 days per year plus standard bank holidays increasing to 25 days per year after 2 years continuous employment. Probationary period: Pension: Other Benefits: 3 months Kiln Theatre operates a contributory pension scheme for all permanent employees. Kiln s contribution is capped at 3% of basic salary although the employee may contribute more.
