This racy comedy is the latest from director KWON Chil-in, known for his frank portrayals of relationships and women s sexuality. Following a drunken work party, Shin-Hye ends up spending the night with her much younger colleague, who later wants their relationship to become more than a one-night stand. Mi-yeon enjoys spicing things up with her husband but she doesn t know that he secretly takes viagra as her libido takes its toll on him. Meanwhile Hae-young, whose grown-up daughter still lives with her, begins dating a carpenter. Venus Talk stars three of Korea s most accomplished and provocative actresses including Jo Min-Soo (Pieta), UHM Jung-Hwa (Haeundae), and MOON So-Ri (Oasis).

3 PRODUCTION NOTES A RAW AND HONEST PORTRAYAL OF THE LIVES AND LOVES OF MATURE S. KOREAN WOMEN Ever since the hugely successful rom-com Singles (2003), the South Korean film industry desperately lacked major films portraying the stories of 40-something women. And over the last two years the industry has experienced remarkable growth and part of that has been attributed to an audience that has extended beyond its typical 20s and 30s moviegoers to include far more viewers in their 40s as well as 50s. Given these older filmgoers tastes and the dearth of leading female characters on South Korean screens, director KWON Chil-in (directed Singles) was inspired to make a movie that Korean women could relate to. All three leads in Venus Talk have done remarkable work in the past, UHM for her role in Princess Aurora (2005), Moon s indie cred for LEE Chang-dong s Oasis (2002) and various HONG Sangsoo films, and CHO s leading role in KIM Ki-duk s Venice Golden Lion recipient Pieta (2012). 4 CAST and CHARACTERS 40 Year Old Cougar Shin-Hye Recently separated from her long-time boyfriend, cable TV producer Shin-Hye s love life is rekindled by a very young and handsome production assistant. She can t seem to get her hands off of him and at the same time she tries to resist him as rumors of their scandalous relationship spreads around the office. UHM Jung-Hwa Pop singer and actress UHM Jung-Hwa is one of the most beloved celebrities in South Korea. Her latest hit films Dancing Queen (2012) and Montage (2013) proved her popularity amongst both young and mature audiences. Uhm also starred as the lead in director Kwon s Singles (2003) and afterwards became a staple in romantic comedies including All For Love (2005) and Seducing Mr. Perfect (2006). 5 CAST and CHARACTERS A Woman Who Knows Exactly What She Wants in Bed Mi-Yeon Mi-Yeon strong believes that a woman s life ends the moment she gives up on receiving love. So she works hard to maintain an active sex life with her husband. However, as his fishing trips become more frequent, Mi-Yeon starts to suspect something fishy going on with her husband. MOON So-Ri Moon is one of Korea s most accomplished actress best known for her acclaimed leading roles in Oasis (2002), A Good Lawyer s WIfe (2003), and Forever the Moment (2008). Most recently, Moon has dabbed into a comedy role in The Spy: Undercover Operation (2013), revealing a light-hearted side of her acting repertoire. However, Hae-Young is pulled further away from her dream with her grown-up daughter still living with her and her boyfriend not giving her what she wants. JO Min-Soo JO Min-Soo first debuted in 1986 on KBS TV Cultural Center, then appeared first on the big screen in Chung: Blue Sketch. She is best known for her TV series roles in Sandglass (1995), Piano (2001), and Will it Snow for Christmas (2009) proved to be the veteran actress s breakthrough year when she starred in controversial auteur s latest Venice Golden Lion recipient film Pieta (2012). 7 ABOUT THE DIRECTOR KWON Chil-In Director KWON Chil-In is known for his genuine portrayal of urban working women in South Korea. All of his films illustrate the careers and love lives of young women who live their lives without depending on men. His movie Singles (2003) is a clear representation of the major themes he consistently includes in his movies. Nanan (played by the late actress CHANG Jin-Young), the heroine of the movie, is demoted at work but bounces back through her persistence despite troubles in her love life. In the early 2000s, Nanan was a very rare female character in Korean movies to be depicted with self-confidence. Kwon s subsequent films Hellcats (2008) and Loveholic (2010) also had strong leading female characters. Kwon is the only male director in South Korea continuously making movies with women as main characters. KWON is currently the head of the Director s Guild of Korea, leading the way for improving the rights and interests of film directors in South Korea.
