2 2 INSTRUCTIONS In this paper you are to discuss features of a drama / theatre form you have studied. Drama / theatre forms include (but are not limited to): clowning Greek theatre musical theatre commedia dell arte medieval drama pantomime Elizabethan theatre melodrama puppetry. Read the questions carefully before you begin your answers. Answer ALL of the questions using the same drama / theatre form. Drama / theatre form:

3 3 QUESTION ONE: USE OF BODY BY A TYPICAL CHARACTER OR ROLE Choose a well-known character or typical role that would originally have appeared in your chosen drama / theatre form. Name of character / role: (a) Complete the role-on-the-wall figure below. On the inside, describe the emotions, personality, and goals of this character / role. On the outside, describe the actions, behaviour, and reputation of the character / role, and how these would be seen by other characters.

4 4 (b) Describe how an actor performing the drama / theatre form would have used body language to show the aspects of this character / role. You might consider the use of: body awareness body shape eye contact gesture posture or stance. Sketch in the space below if you want to illustrate your answer to part (b). Label important features of your sketch.

5 5 (c) Explain why the actor would have performed in this way to represent the drama / theatre form. You might consider: the ideas being communicated key events of the time expectations of society.

6 6 QUESTION TWO: USE OF A CONVENTION (a) Describe the action in a scene typical of your chosen drama / theatre form. (b) Identify a typical convention of the drama / theatre form that would have been used in the scene you have described. Convention: Explain how this convention would have been used in the scene.

7 7 (c) Explain why this convention would have been used in the drama / theatre form. You might consider: its impact on the audience the communication of a key idea social or moral expectations.

8 8 QUESTION THREE: USE OF COSTUME (a) Sketch a typical costume that would have been worn by an actor performing a character or role in your chosen drama / theatre form. Label specific details, such as: the style of the costume the fabrics / materials used sizes and shapes colours and textures.
