Please note that this may have to be on different nights this should be made clear when tickets are booked. In very busy weeks, it may only be possible for one adjudicator to attend. Adjudication request forms and cheques for both Festivals, must be sent to the Adjudication Administrator at least TWO WEEKS before the production takes place (otherwise it may not be possible to organise an adjudication at short notice). Adjudication forms are available from the Guild Secretary, or can be downloaded from the Guild website: These forms contain the Administrator s contact information and relevant details for payment. Please note that scripts are usually required and should be sent with the adjudication form. Please state clearly on the form if you wish the script to be returned, and where to! Clear details of the address of the performance venue, including the postcode, are essential. It would also be very useful to have a contact telephone number for someone involved with the production in case of emergency. Once your adjudication request has been received, the administrator will contact you by (unless otherwise specified) to let you know who your adjudicator will be. You should be given the address of the adjudicator who is writing the

2 adjudication. From this point, please contact this adjudicator directly if you have any queries about your adjudication, either before or after the production. Feedback is always welcome! One of the adjudicators assigned to your production will contact you to arrange tickets for the performance (or performances) they wish to attend. Please ensure your contact details are clearly indicated on your request form. A complimentary ticket for each of the assigned adjudicators should be made available. If any further tickets are required in addition, these will be booked and paid for by the adjudicator. It would be very helpful if allocated seats were on an aisle and offer a clear view of the stage; a programme should also be available to the adjudicator (s). Please indicate any cast members who are 21 or under. The adjudication will normally be written and returned within a maximum of 3-4 weeks from the production. If there is any problem with this, the adjudicator who is writing the adjudication will contact you. Unless otherwise specified, the adjudication will be ed to you via the address specified on the application form. The main adjudication panel meets regularly to discuss the productions that have been adjudicated to date, in order that an on-going, and fair, assessment can be made. At the end of the season, the panel will meet so that a short list of nominations can be drawn up (from an on-going long-list) in preparation for the Awards Evening in September. The winners are decided with the aid of an independent adjudicator based on the comments made in the written adjudications. Any adjudicated production directed by a member of the MAIN panel, can receive a nomination but is not eligible for competition. This will be indicated on the nominations list. This also applies to any nominated performances that may be given by a main panellist. NORTH ESSEX THEATRE GUILD ADJUDICATORS FOR RESUMES MAIN ADJUDICATION PANEL: MAGGI FISHER Maggi gained a B.A. in Drama and English at Middlesex University and has taught in North London for over thirty years. She has been involved in many productions: acting, designing, and taking on a variety of technical roles involving costume, lighting and stage management. Maggi has also been a member of the Laurence

3 Olivier Awards Panel, attending over 100 productions in London s West-End on their behalf. SHEILA FOSTER Sheila was an ASM at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester when it opened in 1972, and she also worked in TIE and as Studio Stage Manager. She gained an M.A. in Shakespeare in Contemporary Performance at the University of Essex, where she was also the Lakeside Theatre, and Theatre Studies, Administrator. Sheila has directed over 50 productions locally, and now runs the Wivenhoe Open-Air Shakespeare Company. ANDREW HODGSON (Panel Co-ordinator) Andrew trained as a Drama Practitioner at Middlesex University, and later gained an M.A. in Contemporary Theatre Practice at the University of Essex. He has been active on the local drama scene for 40 years as an adjudicator, performer, and director of over 100 productions. He has won 12 NETG Awards and is a life-member of the Guild. In 1994, Andrew founded Platform Musicals - which specialises in presenting the musicals of Stephen Sondheim. DAWN KING Dawn is an experienced singer and actress in musical theatre, with a number of groups in Essex and Suffolk, winning several awards for her performances. Dawn is a member of the management team at the Headgate Theatre in Colchester, where she has also been acting and directing. She was also the Chairperson of Colchester Theatre Group for several years and, most recently, has been the secretary of the group. LIZ MULLEN Liz is a professional radio presenter, concert compere and journalist. She was the drama critic for the Colchester Gazette for many years. Liz is also an active member of the Essex branch of the performers union Equity. Liz has been involved in local drama since the early 1970 s as a performer and director. Her most ambitious project to date was her own adaptation of Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice, which she also directed at the Headgate Theatre. JANE RAYNER Wivenhoe based Jane, started acting over 20 years ago and since then has performed in a range of productions including Shakespeare, pantomime, musicals and straight

4 theatre. Jane has recently started to direct for the Wivenhoe Pantomime Group. For several years, Jane was a regular drama critic for the Essex County Standard newspaper, based in Colchester. ASSOCIATE ADJUDICATORS IAN AMOS Ian has a B.A. in English and European Literature, and an M.A. in Drama from the University of Essex. Whilst living in London, he was a theatrical agent and directed and composed music for Questors Theatre in Ealing. Since returning to Colchester, Ian has directed a wide variety of plays and musicals for local groups such as CTG, Dedham Players and Platform Musicals. He has more recently developed an interest in designing posters and programmes. JENNY BURKE Jenny started acting at the age of 15. For the last 30 years, she has acted in, and directed, many local productions; most regularly for the Dedham Players, but also for the Priory Players, Garrison Theatre Group and CTG. Jenny has won several acting awards and her open-air productions at Castle House in Dedham, have won much acclaim. CHRISTINE DAVIDSON Christine has been involved with acting and directing for almost 30 years. She has been a member of Chelmsford Theatre Workshop at The Old Court Theatre for much of that time. Christine is proud to have won a NODA award for Best Drama and Production in 2009, and another for Best Drama the following year. She made her directorial debut at the Headgate Theatre with The Anniversary, and is looking forward to her next production God of Carnage at the same venue. SARA GREEN Sara studied renaissance drama at University and later made a study of Commedia dell Arte inspired by her love of Pantomime. Sara gave her first theatrical performance aged 2, and since moving to North Essex in 1977 has been heavily involved in local theatre. She has involved herself in all aspects of theatre including

5 directing, set design and construction, lighting and, most importantly, acting and costume design. WILLIAM HOOPER William has performed regularly for a range of local theatre groups over the last 15 years, securing a number of NETG nominations and winning awards for his acting and writing. William staged his own self-written musical at the Headgate Theatre and has written and performed three one-man comedy shows. William has also directed for the Orpen Players and Platform Musicals, as well as writing theatre reviews for the Essex County Standard. KERRY KING Kerry has been involved in all aspects of local theatre for many years. Kerry obtained an M.A. in Contemporary Theatre at the University of Essex and founded her own company Making Waves with the intention of presenting challenging modern drama. She has directed several award-winning productions, was co-director and producer for the film Witchfinder General, and has written four pantomimes, one of which was translated into Welsh! MICHAEL POOLE Michael has been prominent in amateur drama for the last 50 years as an actor and director. He is currently the Chairman of the North Essex Theatre Guild, and he is also a member of the management committee at the Headgate Theatre. Michael has directed and performed at several local theatre groups; most regularly for CTG, the Orpen Players and the Priory Players. ANNE SEXTON Anne has been involved in local drama for over 40 years and was a stalwart member of the Severalls Concert Group. She also acts with the Orpen Players and Dedham Players. As well as adjudicating for the NETG for a number of years, Anne was also a reviewer for the Colchester Express and Colchester Gazette newspapers. KATE SHEFFIELD Kate trained at the Rose Bruford College and qualified as a teacher of drama, also gaining LRAM at the Royal Academy of Music, in speech and drama. Kate has been involved in local drama as a performer and director for many years, working at the Kelvedon Players, Manifest Theatre Group and the Royal London Drama Group. She has directed community theatre projects, judged public speaking competitions and organised local cultural festivals.
