This higher elevation may take a few days to get used to. Drinking plenty of water is advised to avoid negative effects due to elevation. Summers here are dry and sunny. Please come prepared with sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and water bottle. Evenings are often cool, a light sweater or jacket may be needed. If you are arriving by plane, the airport is directly south of UNM. There are taxis located just outside of baggage claim. If you are arriving by car, UNM can be easily accessed from I-25 (north or south) on the Central Ave. or Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. exits. PLEASE NOTE: There is major construction for several miles along Central Ave. due to the Albuquerque Rapid Transit (A.R.T.) project. Please give yourself ample time for traffic delays, travel, and parking. It is recommended to allow an additional 30 minutes for travel during peak hours. For those of you who will have cars during your stay, parking on and near campus during the day is limited, so please plan ahead. Metered street parking and pay-by- 8
9 the-hour lots are available within a short walking distance to campus. These options are generally cheaper than parking on UNM main campus. Please note that these options may be limited due to the A.R.T. construction. Purchasing a campus parking pass is also an option for daytime and evening oncampus parking. Campus parking passes are available for purchase from UNM Parking Services. UNM Parking Services: (505) or Albuquerque s public buses #66 and #766 run up and down Central Ave. and stop in front of UNM campus. This is a cheap and efficient option for anyone staying at a hotel on or near Central Ave. City of ABQ Public Transit Schedule: Festival Flamenco provides daily shuttling on limited schedules for our students. Check our Festival website at ffiabq.org for updates regarding transportation and accommodation services. There are many restaurants, cafés, and grocery stores within walking distance to UNM.
