5 Mission Statement The Philadelphia Arts Market is a 7-month (March - September), bustling outdoor event initiative that takes place at Broad & Washington in South Philadelphia. Our mission is to transform a community eyesore into a colorful market that draws thousands of residents and tourists every weekend, builds the ever-growing artistic community and becomes one of the city s weekend Must Do activities. The market will feature dozens of craft makers, farmers market and flea market vendors, the city s best food trucks, and a stage for area student and musical performances (School of Rock, University of the Arts etc). Special spaces would be set aside for the city s Dept. of Rec programs for outdoor yoga and city classes. Big businesses could snatch up advertising with sponsor tents that overlook the street s intersection. And Kid s Corner will feature just for kids vending (balloon making, pay-per-crafts, and colorful bounce domes). Essentially, The Philadelphia Arts Market combines a flea market, a craft fair, a farmers market, recreation programs and free concert performances and offers something fresh, fun, new and culture defining for our city. The long-term goal of The Philadelphia Arts Market is to own a location and offer indoor spaces for vendors, expand on events and programs, and partner with various city creative groups. The idea here is that an unused neighborhood lot, an eyesore that s burdening a communitywill transform into a colorful, fun weekend hub with something for (literally) everyone. Vendors, and business sponsors will flock at the chance to participate and visitors of ALL AGES will attend. It s easy, inexpensive and will build community.

6 THE PHILADELPHIA ARTS MARKET A bustling, weekend event space open from March - September that combines a flea market, a festival and a concert space making use of an otherwise abandandoned city lot.

Other Cities are doing this Combine a flea market, a craft show, a city festival, an arts space and a concert venue and that s what you ll find at the Philadelphia Arts Market. It s a weekend destination, bursting with creative activity and offering city residents a fun, free destination point every weekend. Farmer s Market - A centrally located, weekend farmers market, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables, breads, pastries and more. Crafers & Artists - The city s only regular craft and art showcase, featuring affordable spaces for Philadelphia s creative community. Brooklyn, NY Flea Market Vendors - Hundreds flea market vendors offering everything from housewares and antiques to furniture and kid stuff. A regular outlet for the consistently sold out Punk Rock Flea Market vendors. Preformances - On the stage, weekend (and free) classical music performances by The School of Preforming Arts, University of the Arts, The School of Rock and more. Kid s Corner - A Kid s Corner packed with family events including bounce domes, games, pay-to-craft stations, prizes and business sponsored activities. (Pls. Rec Dept Programs - The city & the city s recreation department can offer weekend programming including yoga, craft making and martial arts for a small admission fee, supporting the Mayor s Rec Dept initiative. 9 What s At The Market? Farmer s Market Way The first section featuring dozens of vendors from PA and NJ with fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, pies, flowers and more. Artist s Alley Section two, featuring Etsy style artists crafts including handmade jewelry, paintings, clothing and artwork. Treasure Road Hip vendors sporting vintage treasures, antiques and junk. Target audience is mixed with a focus on the routinely sold out P.R. Flea Market vendors. Food Truck Ave The city s coolest food trucks line the Arts Market offering the perfect place for lunch City Programming Through the Department of Rec. Take some of the best programs and bring them out on Saturday. Sponsors & Businesses Features local and national businesses with creative and interactive displays. Premiums charged. Kid s Corner Vending just for kids including arts & crafts, bouncy house and more. Stage Features classical music performances by Performing Arts School, The School of Rock, local musicians & more. 10 What s Happens During The Week? What happens at night? Using the stage that s set up facing Washington Avenue, the space becomes a drive in retro Movie Theater showing classics like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Psycho and Donnie Darko and The Room. Sound would be transmittable by radio station or cell phone. What happens during the rest of the week? The space is set up and rentable for multiple uses including a valet parking lot. Sport competitions and fundraisers (racing), skateboard competitions, film and TV opportunities, outdoor corporate parties, themed events, city official speeches, and big outdoor concerts and festivals and even a space for the Mayor to speak publically.

11 Location Goal - Broad & Washington Philadelphia s Avenue of the Arts has become a mecca of cultural activity. Over the past ten years, Philadelphia has supported and helped to develop a street bursting with art. Stretching from city hall to just past South Street, Broad Street has become a cultural destination point. But keep driving down Broad Street, past the theaters, past the parades and you ll find an eyesore that South Philadelphia remembers as The Old Cirque de Solie lot. For a dozen years, these lots have remained undeveloped and an eyesore for the community. They re unkept, unused and (until recently) completely inaccessible. Carnival Cruise left a mess behind after a commercial attempt in the early 2000 s. To date, there are still remnants of this failed effort. The Philadelphia Arts Market would be a PERFECT fit in this location. At 4.5 acres, the lot would host vendors and could help the owners to sell the property. It would be lucrative for the city, would make sense for property owners, and would expand the Avenue s artistic mission, while appealing to a more residential audience. Again, this is the IDEAL location as it s centrally located and easy to get to. If the market could begin here, people would follow it if/when it moved. An abandoned eyesore for 15 plus years I ask for the city s help in getting the owner s permission to use this space until the parcel sells. I have a vision for this space in particular and feel that if we begin here, at a naturally high traffic area, we could move it when necessary and people will follow it.
