WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: Benefits of participating include an intense creative experience; being part of a great exhibition of up to 1,000 works and an audience of those who support the arts and artists; fellowship with other artists; and a spectacular opportunity to make works available for sale to people who might not be able to afford your larger pieces. ENTRY DEADLINE: Sunday, May 28, Entries must be submitted online by 11:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. ABOUT 171 CEDAR ARTS CENTER: 171 Cedar Arts Center is a dynamic organization which enriches the community by offering excellent arts instruction, exhibiting today s artists, and hosting live performances. 171 was established in 1968 when artists and community members acted upon their vision to provide the community with a safe, welcoming environment in which to explore the arts. Throughout 171 s history the community has not wavered in its belief that what 171 has to offer is a vital part of what makes this region unique and a standout in the world of the arts. 171 s campus serves as a testimonial to the community s core arts values, to our founders vision, and to the spirit of collaboration. The arts are rooted in Corning, and 171 plays a vital role in the inspiration of hundreds of artists, and employs just under one hundred teaching artists each year. We depend upon teaching artists who are willing to freely share their passion and talent, who teach well into the evening when done at their day jobs, who commit countless extra hours for weekend recitals, and who continually nurture a warm friendly atmosphere in their classrooms it is because of our teaching artists that hundreds of students happily return to 171 each year. 171 s campus consists of two buildings: the Bruce House built in 1852; and the Drake House, built in 1865 and refurbished in the late 1990s. 171 s 23 thousand-square-foot campus features one ballroom for dance and movement classes, a black box theater that accommodates up to 200 guests, eight music rooms, two art studios, three spaces for public and private events, and a gallery to showcase the works of local and regional artists.

2 We make art accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds by offering a variety of free exhibitions, affordable studio rentals, workshops and classes for teens and adults, and after-school classes, summer camps, and in-school art classes for kids, as well as community art projects and opportunities. With 171 s prior approval, other 6 x 6 panels may be used at the artist s expense (small canvases, etc.) as long as the presentation is professional in appearance and there is a rigid support for the work (i.e., no paper or fabric may be placed directly on the wall). Variations must be approved by 171 Cedar Arts Center in advance. MEDIA: All fine art visual media will be accepted. Artists may prime and paint on panels, or attach canvas, drawings, or watercolor paper. 3D sculptures or jewelry may be attached to wall-mounted panels, or stand on 171- approved shelves provided and installed by artist. All works must fit in allocated space of 6 h x 6 w x 6 d. If your work requires a different approach, contact us for approval as soon as possible. INSTALLATION: Artists are responsible for hanging and taking down their own works on the scheduled dates (see Delivering & Installing ). The 6 square panels will be hung unframed, 7 high and 7 across, with 1 between panels. A template will be used to mark off the spacing. One work will be hung separately next to the 49-panel square, and this 50th piece may be framed (optional). The finished panels should be signed and dated (but not numbered) on the back. Display space for each artist will be the decision of 171. Bring a hammer, a level, and a stepladder if you need one (the highest row will be approximately 82 from the floor). Allow at least 3 hours to install. DISPLAY MATERIALS BIO/STATEMENT/TITLES/LABELS: Each artist will prepare an 8.5" x 11" bio and an artist statement to hang next to their 50-panel exhibit. Artists who titled each panel may also hang a 1-page sheet listing the titles in the order of display. Artists may also hang a page with thumbnail images in order of display. These pages should be printed on white card stock and hung according to the template provided. 171 will print labels (name, city, theme, medium, price) based on text to be provided by the artist no later than Wednesday, July 12. NO OTHER MATERIALS MAY BE PLACED AT YOUR DISPLAY. No merchandise tables or cards on the wall. No small merchandise items (cards, books, etc.).
