3 Audition Tips HELLO, BABY! Once you step onto the stage, you are officially in performance mode, so take a step back and ask yourself: What kind of first impression do I want to make? Think of how you want the judges and producers to view you: From your costumes and makeup, to the way you walk, dance, or leap onto the stage! Your introduction should be no more than 30 seconds long. Within that timeframe, plan on telling us your Full Name, Your Act Name (something catchy and fitting!), Your Age, Where You Currently Live, and anything else you d like to share of interest. Be brief, concise, and fun! If you're part of a group act (ie. band, dance troupe, magic act, etc.), your entire act must be together when introductions occur. It would also be nice to inform the producers/judges how you came to know each other (if part of a group performance), and how your act came about. LIGHT UP THE STAGE! We are looking for creativity at its finest, with the added twist of unexpected surprise and humor - ENTERTAIN THE PANTS OFF US! Whether it be a legitimate talent you have, or a stupid party trick you ve been doing for years, or a comedic act that has people in stitches, or an avant-garde performance that s edgy, or simply something that no one has ever seen before, the more unique the better. After all, it is the TCT TAM-TAM Talent Show! KEEP IT SHORT & SWEET Your total performance time should be between 45 seconds and 2 minutes. Acts that run longer than 2 minutes (120 seconds) will be disqualified. BE PREPARED When auditioning, it s always a good idea to have 2 or 3 different acts/auditions ready to go, just in case the Producers would like to see more. TOUCHY-FEELY Remember, your ultimate goal is to entertain your audience and to make them Feel. Whether that be a laugh, a tear, a gasp, or a tremor, it is YOUR JOB to make the spirit come alive in your act. So think outside of the box and get creative with your showmanship, costumes, make-up, music, special effects, and props. But please avoid trademarked materials, vulgarity, and FIRE! Thank you. PRE-RECORDED MUSIC/SOUND EFFECTS If pre-recorded music is part of your act, we ask that you bring 2 COPIES of your music on Compact Disc. It should be edited and ready-to-go to accompany your performance. Using a Black Sharpie, please write your Full Name, Act Name, Type of Performance, & Phone Number on each of the CD s. One of these copies will stay with the Producers of the TCT TAM-TAM Talent Show, in case you are chosen to compete in the Live Show Competition. Please Remember: Prior to performing at one of our Live Audition Demo Night s (being held on January 24 th and January 25 th ), you must have filled out and submitted your completed application form by 5:00 PM on Friday, January 18 th, *The application form is included at the end of this packet. You can also download additional copies at or pick one up in person at the TCT Box Office 1574 E. Canal Dr., Turlock, CA

4 LIVE SHOW COMPETITION - After all auditions and video submissions are reviewed, the TCT Producers will select a certain amount of performers who will compete onstage at the LIVE SHOW COMPETITION held on the evening of Saturday, April 6 th, During the LIVE SHOW COMPETITION, a panel of three judges will critique each performance. If any judge finds the act to be unworthy of the prize, they may stand up and hit the tam-tam. Once the tam-tam is struck, all performers must stop their act immediately, as their time in the competition is over. - If a performer makes it through their entire act without one of the judges hitting the tam-tam, each judge will then give them a score ranging from 1 (being low) to 10 (being high). The top three performers who earn the most points from the judges will be considered finalists. During each intermission, the audience will have the chance to vote for their favorite finalist by purchasing ballot tickets, and ultimately, their votes will decide who the winner is of the Grand Cash Prize! Here s the rest of the lowdown: There will be Five Components to the LIVE SHOW COMPETITION: *ACT 1: During ACT 1, ten performers will show off their talents on stage! The top three performers with the highest scores (deemed by the judges) will head to the finals where audience members will be able to vote for their favorite act... This will take place during INTERMISSION 1 (see below). *INTERMISSION 1: All voting for ACT 1 s top 3 Performers must occur during this first intermission. Audience members have the opportunity to show their support for their favorite performer by purchasing tickets to vote. Each ticket costs $5.00, and each ticket counts as one valid vote. Once a ticket has been purchased, the audience member may place it into their favorite performers voting box. Audience members may vote as many times as they d like. Purchasing tickets to vote is a Win-Win: Not only are audience members getting involved in the fun by voting for their favorite act, but all cash donations made from their generosity goes solely towards making sure our Turlock Community Theatre continues to stay open to the public and thrive in the years to come. *ACT 2: During ACT 2, ten more performers will show off their talents on stage. The top three performers (deemed by the judges scores) will head to the finals where audience members can once again purchase tickets for $5 each, and vote for their favorite performers as many times as they d like. All voting for ACT 2 finalists will take place during INTERMISSION 2 (see below). *INTERMISSION 2: All voting for ACT 2 s top 3 Performers must occur during this second intermission. Same voting rules apply as in INTERMISSION 1 (see above). *AWARDING OF THE CASH PRIZE: A one-time cash prize of $1, will be awarded to the Performer/Act who receives the most votes from the Audience. The Cash Prize will be presented once all votes have officially been counted. Why $1, as the cash prize, you ask? Well, the Turlock Community Theatre officially opened its doors in the year 1999, and the 19 cents represents the first year for this event, Fitting, right?!
