1 COLONNADE NEWSLETTER September 2014 Back Alley Productions Presents Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde C A T O O S A C I R C L E R I N G G O L D, G A Colonnade Newsletter As the festive prepare to don costumes in the spirit of Halloween, actors and actresses will don characters for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at The Colonnade Performing Arts Theater. The dark production, adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, and in special arrangement with Dramatist Play Services is based on the classic Robert Louis Stevenson novella, and will be presented by Back Alley Productions. Shows are Oct. 17, 18, 24 and 25 at 7:30 p.m. with a 1 p.m. matinee on Oct. 25. Due to the subject matter, parental guidance is advised for children under the age of 13. Returning to the spirit of the original Stevenson novella, the story tells of the good-natured Dr. Henry Jekyll s descent into the evil within himself when he experiments with chemistry and splits his own personality creating the evil Mr. Hyde. The novella first penned in London in 1886, will be recreated on The Colonnade stage with several actors portraying Hyde. Hatcher s adaptation strives to show the potential for evil inside everyone, Director Kaylee Smith says. This isn t your ordinary version of Jekyll and Hyde, she said. We ve tailored the set, costumes and lighting to invoke fear and suspense in a day and age where creating fright is no small task. The cast and crew have taken to the challenge and crafted something psychologically tense and dark, backed by a classic and engaging story with a wealth of complex characters that will make you examine yourself and your own nature. The production is perfectly timed for the Halloween season, Smith said, and will appeal to fans of old school suspense and psychological Storyteller Productions Presents Goodnight Moon GOODNIGHT MOON the Musical has delighted audiences across America, and it is coming to Chattanooga through Storyteller Productions! This simple bedtime story has been transformed into an hour long musical that brings smiles to everyone in attendance. GOODNIGHT MOON the Musical transports the audience inside the great green room. Children of all ages will love seeing dancing bears with chairs, the cow jumping over the moon and yes, the bunny dancing and singing his way to sweet dreams. At only one hour, it is the perfect length for even the youngest fan, and each minute of that hour is action packed with one special effect after another that will thrill even the parents. Everyone s favorite bedtime story comes to life! Join us on November 7th or 8th for a Goodnight Moon Pajama Party! The events begin at 6:30 each night with cookies, hot cocoa, the telling of classic children's stories by the characters of those stories themselves, and other reading related activities. At 7:30, everyone will move to the theater for one final bedtime story in the Great Green Room. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students. The ticket includes all the activities and the performance, and everyone is invited to come in their favorite PJ's! We will tension. Zack Jordan, is portraying Dr. Henry Jekyll and four other actors portraying Mr. Hyde. Our goal, when the curtain goes up, is to make your hair stand up on your back. 2 The Colonnade Players to present Babes in Toyland When you think of Christmas, do you often find your self singing Toyland, Toyland, little girl and boy land. Many people do, thanks to the music of Victor Herbert and the classic story Babes in Toyland. The Colonnade Players, in association with The Dramatic Publishing Company, will be bringing the classic to life on The Colonnade Stage this November. Director Heidi Riddle returns to the helm to direct the cast of 20 local adults and children in a retelling of the beloved story of the evil plot of Uncle Barnaby to turn children into toys in the hopes of becoming Santa s biggest toy supplier. Libretto and lyrics are adapted by Ruth Perry with Ann Smit and Susan Carle from the original operetta by Victor Herbert and Glen MacDonough into a story that appeals to young and old alike. See the story through to its conclusion with the March of the Wooden Soldiers, the arrival of Santa and the magic of Christmas leaving you singing Hail to Christmas, joyous Christmas. Shows will be held November 14, 15, 21 & 22, 2014 at 7:30pm. There will be a matinee on Saturday, November 22 at 1:00pm.
