2 History & Purpose The San Francisco Frozen Film Festival(SF FFF) is a Nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization founded in Celebrating the diversity of San Francisco, SF FFF offers film, music, and educational events which embodythebayarea suniquemixtureofculturesandartists. Our media programs and work continually advance a sustainable and supportive mingling network of local independentandinternationalartists. With an eye towards helping the struggling artisan and promoting educational, SF FFF offers hard to find pathways to media attention, a place to exhibit art work, build skills, and highlight talents in a professional manner. All SF FFF programs are thoughtfully selected educational and cultural events that strengthen the artisticbondsoflocalaudience,nationalindustry,andthearts. Ourbeliefisthataswecoalesceintoamorerichlytexturedandtechnologicalsavvysociety,itisincumbenton supportive local communities to enable artists to gain the confidence and skills they need to continue the importantroletheyplayinsociety. Community Film & Media Events Frozen Film Festival program and events show yearly the second week of July and bring independent filmmakers, musicians, media, and critics to the San Francisco Bay Area from around the globe!we host an annual film and music festival, as well as screenings, local music and dance events, and international web basedfeaturesincludingscreeningson"secondlife",andcommunityparticipationprograms. Includedinourfestivalarenightsoflivemusicconcerts,shortfilms,animation,globalfeatures,longandshort documentaries,skatefilms,musicdocumentaries,andmusicvideos! Allfilmsscreenedandacceptedintothefestivalinspiretheartisticcommunitywithworkthatisleadingfilm, music, and cinematography's evolution and that will ensure the Bay Area's reputation for innovation in the arts. Of the filmmakers chosen to screen their films, some will win"best picture awards," all will gain additional press,somewillmeetfuturecollaborators,fallinlove,andallwillcontinueontheprocessoffurtheringwhat wehopetobelongandfulfillingcareersinthefilmandmusicindustries. Our Name and Purpose SanFranciscoisoneofthegreatcitiesoftheworld,butnoneotherthanMarkTwainfamouslyquipped:"The coldestwinterieverspentwasmysummerinsanfrancisco." What,ifanything,areyoudoingdifferentlythisyearthaninthepast? Thisyearwearegoingtotrytorepeatafewofthefilms.Inthepast,we'vemostlyjustshownthefilms onetimeonly.forsuretheanimationshortprogramwillplaytwice,andmaybeafewoftheotherfilms aswell. Anyhighlightsforthisyear? Highlights for this year include the follow up to 2007's best animation winner "Everything Will Be Okay"byDonHertzfelt(alsowonSundanceBestShort).Now,twoyearslater,istheanimationsequel, whichisreallycool.(advancewordisthat MovieMakermagazinewillbenamingustotheir"Coolest Festivals"intheirsummerissue,thoughwe'resupposedtoholdthatrelease'tilnextmonth). Whatistheaverageamountofsubmissionsyougetpercategory(film)? This year we had over 300 submissions, with more in our narrative categories. I always tell people: makeashortfilmfirst.thatway,youlearnthecraftandit'scheaper,faster,andyoubuildrelationships withactors.[...] 6

7 What was your total count of festival goes in 2008? Do you expect a similar or better turn out this year? We had over 800 people come through in 2008, and we expect a similar turnout this year. Unfortunately,theeconomicdownturnhashurtmostofthearts filmbeinganexception.[...]forour filmmakers,thisistheonlychancetoseetheirworkinthebayarea,sowehopepeoplewillcomeby. Hastheeconomyaffectedthefestivalatall? Theeconomyhasdefinitelyaffectedthefestival.Wehavelostinterns(whojustcan'taffordtolivein the bay area), and we have had sponsors not just pull out of sponsorship, but go completely out of business[...]so,wearedoingourbesttostayafloat,whichjustmeansbeingmorecreativeandmaking useofwhatwehave.likeedwood.[...] Thanksforhelpingspreadthelove.~Gabriel MovieMaker Magazine 7

The City s reputation for its notoriously chillyclimate,whichknowsnoboundseveninthemiddleofthesummer,isessentiallytheinspiration behindthefestival snamesake.afterall,onlyinsanfranciscodothewords frozen and summer go hand in hand. 8
