Planned early pickups or late drop offs must be communicated to the Stage Manager (Older Company) or Director (Younger Company) 48 hours prior. We strongly encourage parents to engage in dialogue with their children about their character in the play. As a parent, get creative; help run lines, talk to your child about his/her character, how he/she might feel and express him/herself, and most importantly encourage your child regularly to stick with it while praising him/her on all that he/she is doing well! We welcome any questions or concerns you might have and pride ourselves on the personal attention we give to our students and their parents. Actors may also have a chance to read opposite other actors in a safe and unintimidating environment. Each group audition will last one hour. Students considered for lead roles may be called back for a call back (second audition) at the end of the day, so please be available from 4-6pm, in addition to your audition time, on the audition day. Campers will need to prepare material for this audition process; they will receive Audition Guidelines along with their scripts with detailed instructions on audition preparation. Group Auditions for Annie Jr & WICKED & Uncommon Women and Others In order to have more time to get to know our students and better cast them, we are auditioning actors in groups of similar age range, giving them more time to demonstrate their skills to our creative team. Audition Preparation Workshop This workshop is limited to first 60 registrants. The workshop happens Saturday, May 9 from 11am to 3pm at RMTK at 5311 Western Avenue, Ste 135 in. In the workshop, we will learn how to prepare for the audition, how to pick good roles compatible with your child s skill & experience level, learn basic audition protocol, such as how to do a professional slate, boost self confidence, and more. PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is not required and will not affect casting but is merely intended for those seeking audition help. As an added and optional feature of the camp, the workshop has a fee of $40. You may add this to your registration by logging into your account at or call us at Casting Policy Please be aware that no student is guaranteed any one particular part, no matter what their acting resume is like. We choose whichever student we feel is best suited for a particular part. This is a very complex process especially when you're trying to cast many kids who are all auditioning for the same two parts. On that note, parents, please encourage your children to find parts other than the main character to audition for. Often the supporting roles are most interesting. However, please rest assured that your child will play a very active role in the production whether or not he/she has a lead role. Our "workshop environment is conducive to an active personal process for each student. 10 Costume Measurements (Mary Poppins, Annie Jr, Les Miserables, WICKED and Uncommon Women and Others) Costumes Fees are already included in the tuition. Each camper will be fitted individually for their costume(s) by a professional costumer. We will take your child s measurements on the day of his/her audition or during the first days of the camp session. Camp Daily Schedule Camp days are M-F, 9am-4pm. 2-4 week camps; will have an altered schedule during the last week of camp as the students move into production week and dress rehearsals. 11 2:55 3:45 Rehearsal 4 3:45 4:00 Peer Group Check Out & Closing 11 What Students Will Be Learning The primary focus of our 2-4 week sessions is on enhancing the performer s creativity and skill which may include the following: Enhancing the connection to the body Vocal technique - ear training and expanding vocal range Speech - articulation and projection Dance technique training Creating active stage presence Using stage direction and blocking Examining character motivation Taking creative risks Majors and Peer Groups (Mary Poppins, Annie Jr, Les Miserables, and WICKED) On the first day of camp, students will be split into age-based peer groups. Each peer group will meet at the beginning and end of each camp day for check-in, group warm-ups, and basic drama exercises. Peer groups foster an intimacy and camaraderie between students within the larger group. Furthermore, students have a dedicated peer group teacher to whom they can communicate as needed. Majors are an important component of our program. Each student will choose two Majors for Mary Poppins and Les Miserables and one minor for Annie Jr and WICKED. Students will spend one hour per day in Majors. Majors will rotate in 8 day segments for Mary Poppins and Les Miserables. and a 5 day segment for Annie Jr and WICKED, Choices may include: stage combat, auditioning, improvisation, voice, dance, or makeup. Mixed Aged Groups (Mary Poppins, Annie Jr, Les Miserables, and WICKED) Outside of peer groups, much of the camp day is spent in mixed age groups. We have found during our experience that when children are taken out of their exclusive peer group they often thrive and make huge creative leaps. This is why: when a younger child of eight or nine is around children a little older than her/him, she/he is far less likely to be caught up in the chaotic energy that often comes with exclusive groups of young children. Rather, she/he is more likely to be interested in what the older students are doing and wanting to model them. The same goes for our older students who are often likely to be caught up in the social model of what it is to look and act "cool". This can sometimes become a huge obstacle in their ability to let go, improvise and really enter a character. When the age group is mixed there is far less likelihood of this happening. The older students will often take on a mentoring role with many of the younger students and thus the group dynamic becomes balanced and thrives! However, we do make sure that we have several students within each age group to ensure camaraderie, play, and challenge! 1 Week Camp Sessions Theatrical Combat & Singers Conservatory each offers different specialties. In general the daily schedules are composed of creative process work, dramatic exercises, solo and ensemble work, portfolio and resume building, or musical theatre training as applicable, lunch, and breaks.
