Decide what to audition for 2. Complete the online sign-up. (see instructions and link below) 3. Prepare an a Capella Broadway or Disney song AUDITION OPTIONS: See character descriptions, below, for information about the named roles. If you are interested in an ensemble only role, please come for the ensemble group auditions on Thursday 11/29. If you are interested in a main or supporting role, plan to be here on 12/1. Arrive ready to go at the start time of your slot. Everyone who auditions will be included in the show. The show crew will help everyone who comes out to audition to feel comfortable and make the process fun to participate. How to sign up: Follow the link that matches your audition slot. You will be prompted to fill out a registration form. If you are in the system already: The system will recognize your and prompt you to sign in. If you have not used the portal before (or forgot your password) you will need to use the forgot password feature. Payment is required at the time of audition you will not be able to register without a card. 2 Audition Excerpts: Please prepare one of the provided excerpts (on our website) to perform at your audition. The part you read for does not need to be the part you want, but should reflect the attitude of the character you want. Storybook Theater Kids: Please sign up online after October 29 th and before December 21 st. Storybook Theater is a class through Fiddlehead Art & Science Center for children who are young and/or have little theater experience. Suggested age range 4-7. The class takes place on Saturday mornings starting in January and meets before the larger cast has rehearsal, usually 9-10am. This smaller class size allows for individual attention and a focus on teaching theater skills through games and play. Storybook Kids, as they are affectionately referred as, will be included in larger ensemble numbers in the show. Contact Fiddlehead to enroll in the class. MAIN AND SUPPORTING ROLES: This time slot is reserved for those cast members who are interested in lead or supporting role. Auditions for this group will include a song and acting portion. Come prepared to sing a song solo that showcases your voice. Usually, 16 bars or about 1 minute of the song suffices. Please prepare a Broadway or Disney tune that is not from the show. You will also have an opportunity to act out scenes from the show that includes main and supporting roles. CALLBACKS: Afternoon of 12/1 as needed. SHOW DATES AND REHEARSALS: The show is planned to be performed March 16, 17, 23 & 24 with two performances on Saturday at 2pm and 7pm and one performance on Sunday at 2pm at Gray-New Gloucester High School pending school approval in January Rehearsals will be held at Fiddlehead Art & Science Center for small groups on Tuesday and Friday evenings and larger groups or all cast on Saturday mornings. All cast will be called to every Saturday rehearsal. We try to keep our casts needs in mind when planning rehearsal days and times, except during the last week before the show when the full cast will be called. Read through will be held 12/8 & 12/15 at Fiddlehead from 10am-12pm. All parents must be present at 11:45am on 12/8 for a short meeting with the crew and cast. Communication: Most of our communication takes place through our private facebook page. We will also send out essential information via but the thread will only be on Facebook. Also, choreo and extra help videos will be posted on Facebook as well. Please friend Reggie Gray or Tricia Patenaude Sabine to be added to the group. Story On a perfect summer day in the park, Alice sees a White Rabbit hurrying by. Curious to know where he is going, Alice follows him into the dark tunnel, thus beginning her adventure. After the Doorknob counsels Alice to drink from a bottle then eat a cookie, Alice shrinks, thus allowing her to fit through a keyhole, beginning her adventures with the Wonderland creatures. The White Rabbit leads Alice into twin jabbering clowns, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, who teach her some manners. Then, she plays a wild game of musical chairs at the Mad Hatter's tea party. Following the advice of the Cheshire Cat, she ends up at the Mad Hatter's tea part along with the evil Queen of Hearts. Waking up, Alice realizes the entire story has been a dream!

3 Alice Alice, Small Alice and Tall Alice are differently sized versions of the show's titular inquisitive and intrepid young girl. On a journey of self-discovery, the adventurous Alice has the heart of an explorer and instincts of a leader. Even when frustrated or confused, she's awfully charming, so cast an actor who can command the stage. Of the three, Alice carries the heft of the singing solos, so be sure to cast a strong singer for this starring role. Small Alice participates in a few musical numbers that might require good movement and dance skills. Tall Alice appears for a few cameo-style moments. Small Alice Vocal range top: A4 The Cheshire Cat (1, 2 and 3) Alice Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: Bb3 Tall Alice Not Specified The Cheshire Cat (1, 2, and 3) is the perpetually grinning narrator of the story, a magical feline who doesn't always agree with itself. The Cheshire Cat serves as the Narrator for the story and the actors who are cast need to be able to speak clearly and be good storytellers. Strong singing skills are not a must, but comic timing is, as these three comprise a very funny character. Also make sure to cast a trio who will work well as a team. Cast charismatic actors who can play mischievous and mysterious to both Alice and the audience. White Rabbit The White Rabbit is the fussy royal trumpeter, ever-worried that he is running terribly late. Even though the White Rabbit has a solo - the singing should come secondary to finding the person who can exude a lot of energy continuously and create rapid-fire change of focus. Look for an actor who can exude his nervous energy through constant fidgety movement. Because of his wordy solo, excellent diction is also a plus! Vocal range top: E4 Vocal range bottom: C3 Mad Hatter The Mad Hatter is the life of the (tea) party and should be performed by someone who enjoys acting larger than life. Delightfully eccentric, the Mad Hatter has a flair for the theatrical and very little focus. While this role requires a singing solo, the actor can speak-sing if needed, so focus on finding someone who relishes the nonsensical fun of this charismatic character. Vocal range top: Bb4 Vocal range bottom: Bb3 Caterpillar Caterpillar is Alice's wise and fabulous mentor, part sensei, part diva, the Caterpillar is comprised of five actors who play the head, body and all those hands, which move in synchronized gestures to help emphasize a point. As a triple threat, this soon-to-be butterfly should be played by an actor with the vocal chops, the moves, and the magnetism to woo anyone in Wonderland. He provides the heart for the story and really convinces Alice to be herself. Vocal range top: Db5

4 Vocal range bottom: Ab3 Dodo Bird The Dodo Bird is the imperious captain of the Queen's Navy, leads the caucus race. He is in command of the lobsters and other animals and is another of Wonderland's vibrant characters. Cast an actor with a commanding presence and a suitable singing voice for this soloist. Vocal range top: D5 Vocal range bottom: C4 Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee are twins with an identity crisis and an exhausting enthusiasm for proper manners. Superfluously silly, the Tweedles are a comedy duo a la Abbot & Costello and Laurel & Hardy, so ensure their comic timing and chemistry by auditioning potentials in pairs. Vocal range top: Eb5 Vocal range bottom: C#4 The Flowers (Rose, Petunia, Lily, Violet, Daisy) The snooty, mean girls who think they are the most important people in the whole world. They need to be good performers and singers who can handle harmonies. There are only five named flowers in the show but it is possible to add as many more as you like. Vocal range top: D5 March Hare The March Hare is the counterpart to the Mad Hatter and also enjoys a good party. A little less crazy than the Mad Hatter, the March Hare is a happy fun character who enjoys playing. The March Hare has solo parts in one song, but a good actor can "speak-sing" them easily. Vocal range top: B4 Queen of Hearts The Queen of Hearts is the big, mean, hotheaded and overbearing bully/ruler of Wonderland. Actor for this role needs to have a full resonant voice and is able to follow music well. The Queen of Hearts must have a commanding presence and should be a little scary, but funny at the same time. Vocal range top: Db5 Vocal range bottom: C4 Ensemble The Ensemble (Park Kids, Sea Creatures, Royal Cards, Party Guests, etc.) is the show's primary group of performers from which we will cast the Featured Roles and other, perhaps smaller, Ensemble Groups. The Featured Roles call for either solo singing or solo acting, or both. Often in this story, the Primary Storytellers will become members of the Ensemble during numbers in which they are not featured.

5 Mathilda Mathilda is Alice's scholarly sister, has no time for silly games. Cast an actor who can portray both the no-nonsense attitude and the affection of a protective older sister. This role, which only appears in the first and final scenes, can easily double as a Wonderland Character ensemble role if desired. Must have a strong and clear speaking voice. Doorknob The Doorknob is the gatekeeper of Wonderland, knowingly encourages Alice to drink the magic potion. Look for an actor with a tendency toward the dramatic who can capture Doorknob's put-upon demeanor. This is a wonderful additional role for a chorus member who is very funny. King of Hearts The King of Hearts, the Queen's partner, has a timid demeanor until taking expert command of Alice's trial. Since he does not appear until later in the show, he may also double as a different Wonderland Character as needed.
