1 Title: Keyboard Lab III SENIOR SCHOOL MUSIC COURSE OVERVIEW Prerequisite (s): Grade of B+ or higher in Keyboard Lab II or permission of instructor 4 credit (s) 120hour (s) S3 - S4 level (s) Course Code: required or elective Course Description This course is designed for the piano student who has excelled in Keyboard Lab II or who has extensive experience on the piano. Students will be drilled in all the rudiment of piano technique. Course work, theory, and performance pieces will be determined buy the ABRSM syllabus grades 4-6. Emphasis will be on individual improvement as well as accompaniment techniques. Students will be required to perform at a public recital, school function, and /or in the local community. Upon successful completion of this course, students would be eligible to enroll in instrumental independent study. The requirements for this course are as follows: Course Requirements Performance Assessments: Students will play: - eight major scales ( seven of which are two octave) - five minor scales -chromatic scales - arpeggios in the same keys class participation performance from workbook or selected songs aural test for chord structures ABRSM grade 4/5 60% Product Assessments: - transcription of chord progressions word research paper on the construction and mechanics of the piano 20% Written Assessments: tests and quizzes on: - scales - key signatures - notes - harmonic structure - chord identification - musical elements and devices 20% Total 100% Ministry of Education 2008 Page 1
