1 INFORMATION & ARRIVAL BOOKLET Dear SMAS Parents & Campers, On behalf of the California State University, Stanislaus and the Department of Music, welcome to the 2016 Summer Music at Stanislaus camp! We are very excited to bring you another summer filled with music and are extremely proud of the program we have put together this year! 2 INFORMATION & GUIDELINES Info & Arrival Packet Page!2 ARRIVAL INFORMATION Any student arriving by bus, plane, or train must phone the camp director s office, (209) , at least one week before camp to make arrangements to be picked up by camp staff. The closest point of arrival by train is Denair. The closest airport is Modesto, and the bus station is in Turlock. MEDICAL INFORMATION Medical information must be either sent to the camp office before the beginning of each session or brought to camp at the time of registration. Parents will be expected to cover the costs of medical treatment and/or medication not covered by insurance. Medications should be in medi-paks, which bear the camper s name and identify each time of dosage. These will be turned in to the camp office at registration. As a legal requirement, all medications must be in the original packaging or bottles that identify the prescribing physician, the name of the medication, the dosage, and the frequency of administration. Be sure to bring enough medication to last the entire time the camper is at camp. YOUR CAMP MAIL ADDRESS Student Name Senior/Junior Session SUMMER MUSIC AT STANISLAUS Stan State Music Department 1 University Circle Turlock, CA HOUSING Resident students will be staying in the Stan State Residence Life Village. This complex is composed of mini-apartments that house four students each. Each apartment has its own bathroom, living room, refrigerators, and small microwaves. STUDENT DISCIPLINE No student may leave campus at any time unless permission is given IN WRITING by a parent/guardian. Students who are commuting must remain on campus for the duration of the day. Resident campers driving to camp must leave their cars in the parking lot for the week. Their car keys will be held by the camp director. A parking pass will need to be purchased in advance. NO ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, OR DRUGS ALLOWED ON CAMPUS. Please note medications being taken on the health form. BEHAVIOR CLAUSE We encourage campers to have fun and enjoy their time at camp. However, to ensure the campers safety and enjoyment, inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated. Inappropriate behavior consists of: running or rollerblading in the halls, rough-housing, excessive yelling or noise, foul language, or any other activity that could place you or any other camper or counselor in harms way. A reminder: all cell phones must be turned off during rehearsals and concerts.

3 Info & Arrival Packet Page!3 EXPULSION A student will be immediately expelled from camp for the following reasons: Use or possession of illegal drugs or alcohol. Failing to be in assigned housing at required time. Driving during camp without permission. Leaving campus. Harassment (sexual or otherwise) or Bullying Being in a dorm room or living room with a member of the opposite sex for ANY reason A student who fails to follow these procedures or who causes a disruption of camp rehearsals, classes, or concerts may, after consultation with the camp director, be expelled. NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN IF A STUDENT IS EXPELLED OR VOLUNTARILY LEAVES, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ILLNESS (in which case a pro-rated refund will be given) COMMUTER INFORMATION Commuters for either camp are expected to attend rehearsals and classes from 8:30am until 5:30pm Monday-Friday. Lunches are included. Commuters are welcome to stay on campus for evening recreation, but parents are expected to pick campers up by 9:10pm (must provide their own dinner). Commuters should be picked up at 5:30pm in front of the bridge that leads to the music department in parking lot 3 (see map). Commuters who wish to take part in the evening activities will be notified where to be picked up at check in that day. REGISTRATION INFORMATION ALL STUDENTS (INCLUDING COMMUTERS) - Registration will take place in the center of the residence complex (see directions) between 1:00-2:45pm on Sunday, June 12 for the Junior Session and 1:00pm-2:45pm on Sunday, June 19 for the Senior Session. At this time students will be given their room assignments. Students wishing to room together may summermusic@csustan.edu or call the camp director at (209) Up to four students may room together. ALL STUDENTS CONCERNED MUST REQUEST THE SAME GROUP. INSTRUMENTAL AUDITIONS Students should have some music prepared for the Sunday afternoon audition. It may be a solo, or a part of band, orchestra, or choral literature they have performed. The prepared musical selection should be no longer than 3 minutes in length and should demonstrate their technical and musical skills to the best of their ability. Scales should also be included. Wind and percussion placements for orchestra will also be made at this time. ALL PERCUSSIONISTS SHOULD BRING THEIR OWN STICKS AND MALLETS. Vocalists are not required to audition. LOCKERS There are a LIMITED number of lockers available to campers. Lockers will be assigned during the Sunday afternoon auditions. Listed below are the themes and activities for each day so that campers can come prepared! (Please be sure that all apparel is camp appropriate) DAY THEMES EVENING ACTIVITY Sunday Ice Breakers Get to know your fellow campers through an assortment of ice breaking activities and games! Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Picture Day Wear your camp shirt, nice pants, and smiles and say cheese! Music Shirt Day Wear a shirt that expresses your musical interests! Wacky Wednesday Got a wacky shirt? Socks? Hair style? Wear it proudly on this WACKY day! Character Day Dress as or wear a shirt of your favorite animated, fictional, or non-fictional character! School Spirit Wear your favorite school apparel from your favorite middle school, high school, or college! Sports Night Sport themed games with a twist including capture the flag and many more! Game Night An evening full of board games, activities, movies, and dancing! Staff Concert The SMAS faculty, conductors, and counselors perform! Improv-Skit Night Put your and acting and improvisational skills to the test! BBQ/Pool Party What s more to say? BBQ, pool party, music, and more games! MUSICAL NEEDS WHAT TO BRING Instrumentalists: Please have your instrument checked and all necessary repairs done before your arrival at camp. Bring mutes, extra strings, extra reeds, etc. Percussionists need to bring their own sticks and mallets. Bring a pencil! Music for audition or practice purposes RESIDENTIAL/DORM Weeks worth of clothes MUST bring their own pillow, towels, bed linen, or sleeping bag. Necessary toiletries/medications Alarm Clock!!! Money: There are opportunities to purchase a variety of items at the Campus Bookstore, as well as the University grocery store and the arcade. Please do not bring more money than necessary. C.S.U.S. is not responsible for stolen money or lost articles. CLOTHING/ATTIRE Dress Code: Lightweight school appropriate clothes are required for all activities. Concert Dress (students not abiding by dress code will be asked to change!) - Girls - black skirt (below the knee, without high slits) or dress slacks, white blouse (short or long-sleeved, but not sleeveless), black dress shoes and black nylons. - Boys - black slacks, black socks, black shoes, white dress shirt (no t-shirts, please) Bathing suit/towel (for pool party) Jacket/Sweatshirt for cool evenings Sunscreen and hat for daytime activities Appropriate footwear for walking as well as the evening activities. PROHIBITED ITEMS Weapons of any kind Drugs, Alcohol, or Tobacco Products Clothing deemed inappropriate Televisions or Gaming Systems

Senior Session (June 19-25, 2016) INFORMED CONSENT WARNING AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK I understand that there are inherent risks and dangers associated with participation this event. I assume responsibility and confirm that my child is in adequate physical condition and physically able to participate in activities such as, but not limited to: walking, playing games, sports, swimming, overnight stay, generally touring and accessing CSU Stanislaus facilities. I understand that participation may involve risks including but not limited to: physical injury, drowning, permanent injury, disabilities and even death. I agree to assume all risks, whether known or unknown to me, of my child participating in this activity. RELEASE OF LIABILITY On behalf of myself and my heirs, I release from liability and promise not to sue the State of California, the Trustees of The California State University, California State University, California State University, Stanislaus, and their employees, officers, directors, volunteers and agents (collectively University ) from any and all claims, including claims of the University s negligence, resulting in any physical or psychological injury (including paralysis and death), illness, damages, or economic loss or emotional loss my child may suffer because of participation in this Activity, including travel to, from and during the Activity. I am aware of the risks associated with traveling to/from and participating in this activity, which include but are not limited to physical or psychological injury, pain, suffering, illness, disfigurement, temporary or permanent disability (including paralysis), economic or emotional loss, and/or death. I understand that these injuries or outcomes may arise from my own or other s actions, inaction, or negligence; conditions related to travel; or the condition of the Activity location(s) or facilities. Nonetheless, I assume all related risks, both known or unknown to me, of my participation in this Activity, including travel to, from and during the Activity. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND AGREEMENT I am the parent or legal guardian of the Participant. I understand the legal consequences of signing this document, including (a) releasing the University from all liability on my and the Participant s behalf, (b) promising not to sue the University on my and the Participant s behalf, (c) and assuming all risks of the Participant s participation in this Activity, including travel to, from and during the Activity.
