All submissins must be received BY OR BEFORE Tuesday, January 22, 2019 Recrding Guidelines Please speak yur name, current grade, and current schl prir t yur perfrmance Feel free t cmplete as many takes as yu d like and send the best ne. Feel free t recrd during a private lessn with a private tutr. Audi recrdings can be made using prgrams like Audacity, Garage Band, Lgic, etc. Yu may als use a recrder feature n any smart phne. If yur cmputer des nt have a built-in micrphne, yu may brrw ne frm CB Suth, r ask yur middle schl directr. Yu may recrd each sectin in ne lng track/file r several separate tracks/files. The files will likely be large. If yu have truble attaching yur file t an , cnsider using a link frm OneDrive, Drpbx, Ggle Drive, r similar service. Please me with any technical questins yu may have! 2 Advanced Ensemble Auditin Infrmatin All students currently enrlled in 9th grade band r nt currently in the Symphnic r Jazz Ensemble will enrll in Cncert Band. Cncert Band is the natural prgressin frm 9th t 10th grade ensembles, ffering mre challenging literature, a mre cmplete understanding f music thery, and a chance t make vast imprvements n yur instrument. Once the auditin prcess is cmpleted a list f students that have successfully auditined int the advanced ensembles will be sent t guidance and the changes will be made t the schedule nce the prtal clses t students. The Symphnic Band shuld be viewed as an advanced-level Cncert Band curse. The music perfrmed is ften cllege and prfessinal-level literature. Thugh nt required, many members f the CB Suth Symphnic Band als study their instruments with a private teacher utside f schl. Please cntact yur teacher r Mr. Cx if yu wuld like a list f lcal private teachers. Students in Symphnic Band are als encuraged t auditin fr the PMEA Hnrs Ensembles (Cunty Band, District Band, Regin Band, etc.) CB Suth als features an award-winning Jazz Ensemble. The Jazz Ensemble will participate in lcal jazz festivals in additin t in-schl and public perfrmances. Rehearsal will be devted t jazz style and interpretatin, imprvisatin skills, listening/jazz appreciatin, and preparing perfrmance material. Althugh we will cmpete alngside ther grups, the fcus f the jazz bands at CB Suth is persnal imprvement and enjyment f the jazz art. If we have enugh student interest and members t fill a grup, a secnd, extra-curricular Jazz Ensemble 2 may be created.

3 Brief CB Suth Band Curse Overview Cncert Band All students currently enrlled in 9th grade band are encuraged t register fr Cncert Band in 10th grade The grup will cnsist f musicians in grades Students DO NOT need t auditin t participate in Cncert Band. This is an all call grup fr any student that wishes t have fun in band, but nt necessary wants the stress assciated with perfrming in an advanced ensemble. Symphnic Band Symphnic Band will meet during the schl day as a class. If yu are unable t fit Symphnic Band in yur daily schedule, but wuld still like t participate in band, yu shuld register fr Cncert Band. The grup will cnsist f musicians in grades Entrance t Symphnic Band is determined by auditin nly. In rder t keep with the authenticity f ur literature, nly a limited number f students per instrument will earn a seat in Symphnic Band. Entry is based n the utcme f the auditin. Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble will meet during the schl day as a class. The grup will cnsist f musicians in grades Entrance t Jazz Ensemble is determined by auditin. Thse students achieving the tp auditins scres fr each instrument will be placed in Jazz Ensemble. The prspective annual instrumentatin fr Jazz Ensemble is as fllws: - 5 saxphnes (2 alt, 2 tenr, 1 baritne), 4-5 trmbnes, 4-5 trumpets, 2-3 percussinists, 1-2 pianists, 1 bass, and 1 guitar. Marching Band (c-curricular ensemble) Beginning in the summer, ur Marching Band perfrms thrughut the fall seasn fr all ftball games, marching festivals, and parades. The BEST way t meet 80+ new friends befre the first day f schl even begins! All wind players and percussinists MUST be enrlled in Cncert r Symphnic Band in rder t be eligible t participate in Marching Band. (Exceptins can be made fr students in the MBIT Prgram) Participating in the marching band is highly encuraged fr all members f the CB Suth Band Prgram!

4 Specific Auditin Infrmatin: Jazz Ensemble All Students will prepare the fllwing: Prepared excerpt: Students will perfrm excerpts f transcribed sls frm classic jazz sls. Scales: scale requirements fr Jazz Ensemble are the same as Symphnic Band. Yu d nt need t perfrm scales twice if yu are auditining fr bth ensembles. GUITAR will fllw the scale requirements listed fr FLUTE BASS will fllw the scale requirements listed fr TUBA PIANO will fllw the scale requirements listed fr FLUTE (2 hands fr all scales) Imprvised Sl (OPTIONAL but highly encuraged): Students will perfrm an imprvised (r pre-written) sl ver standard changes. Mr. Delsn has prepared a Jazz Imprvisatin Methd Bk fr the district that we will use in class. This packet shuld be valuable t develping imprvisers. 5 Majr and Chrmatic Scale Requirements Majr scales shuld be tngued, and chrmatic scales slurred. Scales are listed in TRANSPOSED (nt cncert) pitch.
