_ - ` m~~~l 1MT communty, and had a mature, though not partcularly polshed, sound Students now form a far greater proporton of ts membershp, and the sound of the group s now that of an excellent college chorus, dstnctly brghter and younger than before The loss, such as t s, n the change s more than compensated for by the mproved technque and sheer exctement generated n ts December 9th concert From the frst entry of the chorus n Haydn's Te Deum, t was obvous that the sngers were wholeheartedly nto the sprt of the musc; and the tone was the most sold and strong that have ever heard n Kresge Stravnsky's Mass s a product of hs neo-classcal perod, and t s a sort of "commentary" n a modern dom on works such as the precedng Haydn; t was thus a most effectve pece of program plannng The sngng of the chorus was agan secure Mozart's unfnshed C Mnor Mass stands at the same level as Bach's B Mnor Alass and Beethoven's Mssa Solenzs, and the Choral Socety's performance was extremely commtted and convncng The vrtuosty and versatlty requred of the soprano solost (the part was prgnally planned for Mozart's new brde, Constanze, who must have been some snger!) are ncredble, and Mary Lee Crclla made an excellent showng, though her low range was not strong enough for the demands of the "Laudamus Te" movement (but whose s?) Judth Ncosa sang well, though her top range was straned n the "Domne" secton, where Mozart calls for a second soprano rather than an alto The chorus was exceplonally unfed n the strkng dynamc shfts n the '"Qu Tolls," where the stretched-out dssonances are remnscent of the "C'rucfxus" n the Bach B Mlnor Rchard Burke and Robert Woods handeld ther solo assgnnments well, thouth flund Woods to be occasonally overmatched n the quartet mn p a p f:,, /- A F 3, t - r -1 (r' [77E El,plt2Pf, 3, 0~~~~~;u -~~ /7' 11 " " t> 3 ~~ ke~ 8l~,GLh E7, t" r~t~ s~ ~Rr ~~~~~ ~ "~ Ns, Tr B ~~~~~~~~~~~~~,- ' gf ~~~~~~~ y y ~~~", '- r~~~km " c~~~~~~~~-, e-,1, F at > ~~u~~~ens ~n Pt F -7 - g, - ", J -3 1 R, "7 - '^ ;'; c 1 - " ; - " ;L m ' '' re u 11 c " - :L _ z - -p 3 5- A- - - 'E~~~~~~~~
