1 OBSCURITY OBSCURITY Produced by the obscure squad This strange collection of quasi-musical oddities was captured over the Christmas holidays and/or Mr. X wedding. in December While there is a bit of a winter or even some sort of pseudo-christmas theme running through this library, it s definitely intended to fit in well with content from 8DIO s Antidrum and Mini series of libraries. Really, it s just total creative chaos. These instruments are ideal for Seasonal Holiday, children s and comedic music, experimental electronic, glitch and even industrial music. Don t let the cute theme fool you. There are some aggressive and powerful sounds to be found within. Note: This product was formerly known as Microhammer Gnomehammer Vol. 2 1

Note: Free Kontakt Player does NOT support this product. MANUAL INSTALLATION If you have had any issues using our automatic installer. Please using the following manual installation procedure. Use Winrar or UnrarX to un-compress the 8DIO_Gnomehammer_v2.rar file into its own folder in your sample library directory. Make sure to preserve the included folder structure. This is usually done by selecting the extract to'... option in Winrar or UnrarX and then creating a directory called 8DIO_Gnomehammer_v2. Be aware that all of our.nki files are compatible with full retail versions of Kontakt 3.5 or Kontakt 4 only. 2 Note: The Free Kontakt Player and any bundled Kontakt or Kompakt Players that come included with other software, hardware or built into other sample libraries won't be able to load this library. You may be able to run the library for a 30 minute demo period, but the full retail version of Kontakt is required to remove this restriction. However, since our wave directories are open, you can translate the patches into whatever format you like. There are a few conversion utilities available that can make the translation process much easier.

3 UI Controls: This instrument has a variety of special controls that allow deep realtime performance customization. Not all instrument presets include all controls listed. Included controls depend on the specific features suitable for each preset. Some instrument presets may not include every control listed below. Some may also use alternate control mappings. You can see each assignment by clicking on each UI control to display the hint text in the Info bar at the bottom of Kontakt. Attack - (CC 74) This knob controls the sharpness of attack. Increasing the value causes the sound to attack more softly. Swell - (CC 1 or CC11/Expression Pedal) This knob controls the overall volume and intensity of the sound. This allows realtime volume swelling and fading. Release - (CC1 or CC93) This controls the release behavior of the sound. Lower settings cause the sound to be damped and cut off, while higher settings allow the sound to play out as long as a note is held down. In the MW modwheel controlled X-fading presets, release has been moved to CC93. Offset - (CC 71 or CC91) This allows you to skip ahead and start each sample farther into the actual wav file. This allows you to customize exactly which part of the sound you want to play. Stepping - (key-switches C-2 - C0) This allows pitch shifting on the fly. The Stepping settings will determine how many semitones (100 cents) up or down from normal that the sounds will play the next time a note is triggered. You can use the main pitch knob or pitchwheel for realtime pitch bending. You can go up or down by 24 semitones with this knob at any time. The pitch control key-switches override this knob. Key Switch On/Off Button This enables/disables the key-switches between C-2 and C0 that shift the pitch up or down. C-1 resets the pitch to default. Tuned/Untuned Button This button enables/disables key-based pitch changing. When on, the samples are pitch-changed like a tuned instrument. When off, each key will be the same pitch. 3

4 FX Controls: Reverb Dry Mix This knob controls the amount of "dry" or "clean" signal returning from the convolution reverb effect. This knob is only active when a reverb impulse has been loaded in the Impulse Select drop-down menu located to the right of the "wet mix" knob or in presets that come with an impulse already pre-loaded. Reverb Wet Mix This knob controls the amount of "wet" signal returning from the convolution reverb effect. This knob is only active when a reverb impulse has been loaded in the Impulse Select drop-down menu located to the right of the "wet mix" knob or in presets that come with an impulse already pre-loaded. Low Pass This knob enables and controls the high-frequency roll off amount that is applied to the convolution output. Use this to dull, darken and soften the sound. Convolution Reverb Impulse Menu This drop-down menu allows instant access to a variety of custom convolution impulses that we've captured in some of our favorite locations or created using various special techniques. As soon as you load an impulse from the menu, the effect is activated and the impulse you've chosen is loaded into the signal path. Once an impulse has been loaded, the "Dry mix" and "Wet Mix" knobs become active. You can disable and bypass the convolution effect entirely and unload any loaded impulse file at any time, by selecting the "None" option at the top of the list. EQ Active/Bypass Button This enables/disables the EQ insert effect. Low This knob controls the bass gain. Mid This knob controls the mid gain. Mid Frequency This knob controls the mid band center frequency. High This knob controls the treble gain. 4

5 Cider Pot: You are all alone in your hotel room on a rainy day. You have nothing to do. What would you do? More importantly (and more to the point) what would 8DIO do? We would bang on and abuse the empty steel coffee pot until it forked over all of its beautiful glass-bell tones. That is what we would do, and that is what we have done. Spoons, stirrers, and twitchy fingers are all typical of a caffeinated environment, and they were all that was necessary to achieve these moments of coffee pot percussion greatness. Menacingly, these items were weilded in battle against the defenseless coffee pot resulting in sounds ranging from a harsh screech all the way to a beautiful bell like tone as clear as glass. 7 Fireplace: Nothing brings holiday cheer and warm like a cozy fire in the hearth. the soothing crackle and snap bring us back to a calm and safe place, back at grandma s house. So why does is kind of sound like demons screaming through the far side of the veil? Fireplace_Door - (c0-g8), The sound of a fireplace door opening and closing. Fireplace_Fire - (c0-g8), 5 loops of the beautiful sound of fire burning. Fireplace_Gas - (c0-g8), A gas fire with 5 different amounts of gas. Snaps_Cracks - (c0-d4) Louder snaps and cracks from a fireplace. And one poof. Fleshy Monkey Toy: The Fleshy Rubber Toy Stocking Stuffer Auto-magical Drummer Monkey is kind of creepy. Actually, it's really creepy. Made of latex rubber and badly airbrushed paint (probably fully lead-based), this little "mechanic" toy works by using an air pump to pump air into little internal air bladders that connect to the monkey's arms. As you pump the air pump, it pushes air through the attached hose and caused one arm to inflate, while the other deflates. This cause the inflating arm to straighten out and strike the little plastic drum it's holding with a small plastic drumstick, as the other arm retracts away from the drum. When the pump is released, the first arm retracts and the second arm inflates, striking the drum in turn. Thus, with every squeeze and release, the little drummer monkey plays two strikes. 10 Nutsack: It's no secret that we here at 8DIO have a fervid adoration of nuts. All sizes, all shapes, all colors, we don't discriminate -- we love all nuts. There is just something special about them -- the texture, the look, even the smell -- nuts are simply irresistible. Feeling the delicate weight as we cup our hands around a pair of beloved nuts is an intense experience. What better way of capturing the nuanced beauty of nuts than to destroy them and record the resulting carnage. So we did everything we could think of to a bunch of nuts: we shook them, clacked them together, dropped them, crushed them, stomped them and even rubbed them with vigor. What followed were paroxysms of laughter, a ridiculous mess and a deep, wonderful sample library of the sounds of nuts. 14 Car + Crowbar: Welcome to Car + Crowbar, a cool little free combination metallic percussion instrument library and standard format post-production sound effect library. We captured these sounds using nothing but a crowbar and a 1991 Dodge Shadow, a special piece of engineering brilliance that Mike once had the personal misfortune to own, many years ago. We decided to find one and exact a little bit of sweet, sweet vengeance.
