2 Series 2000 BAB DWDI Backward Inclined Fans This bulletin features our new BAB Series 2000 DWDI (double width, double inlet), backward inclined, nonoverloading centrifugal fan. These fans are designed to provide economical and efficient handling of large volumes of air for most low to medium pressure HVAC systems and air handling applications. They are ideally suited for use by original equipment manufacturers in custom or semi-custom air handlers or designed into built-up air handling systems constructed on site. The newly developed single surface backward curved wheel has operating characteristics similar to an airfoil wheel. The unique wide profile aerodynamically curved blade design provides efficient performance over a wide operating range while maintaining very low sound power levels. These high efficiencies mean that you can achieve greater airflow and higher pressures using the same size BAB fan as our competitors. Often you can use a smaller size BAB fan without increasing motor size or sound levels. The versatile and economical design of the fan housing and supports make the BAB a perfect fan for many OEM applications. 3 Construction Features Wheel The unique design of the BAB single thickness backward inclined wheel provides efficiencies and sound power levels equal to or better than many other manufacturers airfoil wheels. The aerodynamic blade profile and wider wheel combine to create a more efficient fan design which significantly improves efficiency and reduces sound power levels, especially in the lower frequencies which are the hardest to control. Housing BAB fan housings for size 091 through 351 are constructed of galvanized steel. The side sheets are fastened to the scroll housing with an airtight lock seam connection. BAB fan housings for the size 391 are constructed of steel, with continuous welded seams, and are finished with a rust preventive primer and enamel top coat. Housing support frames provide rigidity and allow the fan to be rotated to any of the four standard discharge positions: top horizontal, downblast, bottom horizontal, or upblast. Shaft BAB shafts are turned, ground and polished cold rolled steel accurately sized for the proper bearing size. The shafts are extended at both ends for flexibility in mounting V-belt drives. Bearings and Bearing Supports All BAB Series 2000 fans are designed with regreasable pillow block bearings which provide a minimum life of 200,000 hours (L-50) at maximum cataloged speed. These bearings are mounted to a heavy duty steel support structure to ensure strength and rigidity. Accessories Access Door A bolted access door is available for wheel inspection and maintenance. Drain A threaded pipe coupling is available welded to the lowest point in the housing scroll to permit wash water or condensation to drain from the fan. Inlet Screens Safety screens are available for mounting in the fan inlet. Inlet Vanes Available for all sizes of BAB fans. Variable inlet vanes provide economical, stable, and efficient air volume control. Inlet vanes are nested in the inlet cone to provide for space saving installation. Extended Lube Lines Plastic lubrication lines run from both fan bearings to grease fittings at a common point located on the fan housing. Discharge Flanges Punched or unpunched discharge angle flanges are available for all fan sizes and discharges. Additional Accessories Twin City Fan & Blower can provide a complete assembled and tested fan package which consists of the Series 2000 BAB fan, motor, and V-belt drive mounted on a common base, with or without spring isolators. 4 Engineering Data The performance tables in this catalog are based on fans handling standard air at a density of pounds per cubic foot. This is equivalent to air at 70 F at sea level (29.92" Hg barometric pressure). Thus, when specified performance is at a density different than standard, it must be converted to the equivalent standard conditions before entering the performance tables. The equivalent standard conditions can be calculated by using the Temperature and Altitude Density Ratios shown in Table 1 below. Table 1. 14 Typical Specifications Fans shall be Type BAB backward inclined fans, as manufactured by Twin City Fan & Blower, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Fan performance shall be based on tests conducted in accordance with the AMCA Standard test code for air moving devices and shall be licensed to bear the AMCA Certified Rating Seal for both Sound and Air. Fans shall have a sharply rising pressure characteristic extending through the operating range and continuing to rise beyond the peak efficiency to ensure quiet and stable operation. Fans shall have non-overloading design with self-limiting horsepower characteristics and shall reach a peak in the normal selection area. FAN HOUSING BAB fan housings through size 351 shall be of galvanized lock seam construction. The housing for size 391 fans shall be continuously welded steel construction. Housings shall be suitably braced to minimize vibration or pulsation. Fan housings shall have spun, aerodynamically designed inlet cones or inlet venturies for smooth airflow into the wheels. Support frames shall be designed for universal mounting, rotatable to any of the four standard discharge positions. WHEELS All fan wheels shall have wheel cones or shrouds, providing stable flow and high rigidity. Wheels shall be of the non-overloading type. BAB backward inclined wheels shall be single thickness plate type, continuously welded to the rim and back plate. Blades shall be designed for maximum efficiency and quiet operation. All BAB wheels shall be statically and dynamically balanced. The complete fan assembly shall be test balanced at the operating speed prior to shipment. SHAFTS BAB shafts shall be manufactured of AISI 1040 or 1045 cold rolled steel, accurately turned, ground, polished, and ring gauged for accuracy. Drive extensions shall be provided at both ends for mounting flexibility. BEARINGS Bearings shall be pillow block, heavy-duty, anti-friction, self-aligning, grease lubricated, ball or roller type. Each fan s bearings shall be sized with a minimum average life, per AFBMA, in excess of 200,000 hours when operating at the maximum RPM. FINISH AND COATING BAB fans through size 351 shall have galvanized housings and bearing supports. Housings for size 391 and wheels for all sizes shall be thoroughly degreased and deburred before the application of a rust preventive primer. After assembly, a finish coat of enamel shall be applied to the entire unit. All shafts shall be coated with a petroleum based protective coating. ACCESSORIES When specified, fans shall be supplied with internal or nested type variable inlet vanes. Double width fans shall have interconnecting linkage to ensure operation in unison. Other accessories such as drain connections, access doors, discharge flanges, inlet screens, extended lube lines and belt guards shall be provided by Twin City Fan & Blower when specified. FACTORY RUN TEST All fans prior to shipment shall be completely assembled and test run as a unit at operating speed or maximum RPM allowed for the particular construction type. Each wheel shall be statically and dynamically balanced in accordance with ANSI/AMCA Balance Quality and Vibration Levels for Fans to Fan Application Category BV-3, Balance Quality Grade G6.3. Balance readings shall be taken by electronic type equipment in the axial, vertical, and horizontal directions on each of the bearings. Records shall be maintained and a written copy shall be available upon request. SUBMITTALS Submittals for approval of equipment shall include copies of outline drawings and performance curves showing the operating point. 14 TCF&B Bulletin 315
