Kent ( ) was a member of the faculty of the Fine Arts and Music Department at Fitchburg State College from He was born in Harris, Missouri on January 23, 1916 to Oza and Goldie (Spickard) Kent and died on March 29, 1999 in Worcester, Massachusetts. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Drake University, master's degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music, a doctorate in music arts from Boston University, and, did postgraduate studies at Harvard University. In 1947, Kent began teaching at State Teachers College at Fitchburg, Massachusetts as an Associate Professor of Music. He chaired the Fine Arts and Music Department from the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s and retired from teaching in Dr. Kent also led the college choir, to which he dedicated two of his unpublished works. He was honored by the College with the dedication of the Kent Recital Hall in his name. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The collection consists mainly of sheet music for Dr. Kent s published and unpublished choral compositions and arrangements. Also included are his unpublished symphonies, songs and instrumental pieces, Masses, and, miscellaneous works, which include one essay on Tonalizing the Alphabet. Last included are score notes and performance programs which point to and describe several public performances of his works (1974, 1986, and 1994). The collection is organized into three main series: published works, unpublished works and performed works. Folders are enumerated according to series.

3 COLLECTION INVENTORY SERIES 1: PUBLISHED MATERIALS, This series contains Dr. Kent s published works including: individual scores of choral compositions and choral arrangements, informally spiral bound compilations of compositions and arrangements, which include some works unique from those found with the individual scores, and one musical work published in a periodical.
