2 Music Mission Statement The mission of the Oskaloosa Music department is to give all students the opportunity to develop their potential and selfexpression in music, both individually and as a group. Students will have the opportunity to develop lifelong skills and appreciation for K-5 General Music Students will express themselves through singing, moving, playing, creating and listening to Elementary (Grades 4, 5) Orchestra Students will perform by applying basic principles of tone production and knowledge of music notation. Elementary Band (5 th Grade): Elementary band students will demonstrate an understanding of basic technical and music reading skills. 6-8 Vocal Every student will work together as a team to create an ensemble in which they are proud. Each choir member will develop proper vocal technique and fundamentals enabling the singer to perform independently. Middle School Band Students will express themselves through musical performance individually, in small ensembles, and in full ensemble format.
