2 2014 SUMMER PROGRAMS - July 7 August 15 READY TO SIGN UP FOR SUMMER? HERE S HOW TO REGISTER FOR PRIVATE LESSONS: Summer enrollment begins May 19th for current CMS students. New students may register beginning June 1st. Each summer, Community Music School (CMS) offers an exci ng line-up of summer music programs that include private lessons with flexible scheduling and summer music camps for children and adults. Young musicians throughout the Tri-County area and beyond come to CMS during the summer for an opportunity to learn from highly skilled and dedicated CMS faculty ar sts and to collaborate with other musicians through a variety of specialty music camps for all ages and instruments. For faculty bios or more informa on, visit or call PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS Private instrumental and vocal lessons are available July 7th-August 15th. Current CMS students may register for summer lessons beginning May 19th and new students beginning June 1st. Please contact our Registrar at Monday- Friday a er 3pm to schedule lessons. FOR SUMMER CAMPS: Camp registra on begins March 3rd. Complete and submit Camp Registra on Form and Medical Form with appropriate payment to CMS, 775 W. Main St., Trappe, PA All students should bring lunch and snack with them each day. New students must submit a $15 registra on fee for camps. A $50 deposit must accompany camp applica ons. Full tui on is due 2 weeks prior to the start of camp. Financial assistance is available on a limited basis call to inquire. You may cancel your registra on and receive a tui on refund minus a $50 cancella on fee if the request is made two weeks prior to the start of the camp. No refund for any reason will be issued a er that me. TUITION & POLICIES Summer lesson tui on is paid upfront when lessons are scheduled. CMS accepts major credit cards, cash and personal checks. If a check is returned for insufficient funds, the account will be charged a $20 Returned Check Fee. they can a end. No refunds or make-ups will be given for missed summer lessons.

Extending familiarity into the viola will create orchestral and chamber opportuni es. Classes will be in a group se ng and include playing, listening and familiarizing with repertoire for the viola. Shoulder rest is not included in rental. INTRO TO MUSIC THEORY Ages 8-12 years Weeks 2-6, Wednesdays 6-7pm Instructor Ryan Leaver Cost: $80.00 Students can get a jump start on music theory studies by enrolling in this course. Star ng with the basic concepts of music nota on the class will cover treble and bass clef note reading, rhythmic nota on, scale construc on, ear training and more. Successful comple on of this course may enable students to advance in levels of the ABRSM theory curriculum offered at CMS during the regular school year. COMPOSITION ABRSM Theory (Book 6 and above) Weeks 2-6 Wednesdays 7-8pm Instructor: Ryan Leaver Cost: $80.00 This class will provide a founda on for students interested in composing and will include instruc on on how to compose for various instruments. The class will discuss composi onal elements from the baroque through modern periods. Students will be encouraged to discover their own composi onal style through wri ng assignments. The camp is open to students from early intermediate to advanced ability levels. Students will develop their chops through participation in a small combo, as well as the big band, comprised of all camp participants. Other ac vi es include workshops on the history of jazz and rock, technical study, chart-reading and composi on. Date CRESCENDO CHAMBER CAMP July 12th-18th July 12th,13th 1pm-5pm, July 14th-18th 9am-5pm This inspira onal, rewarding and challenging chamber music camp provides an opportunity for students ages to perform chamber music. Students will develop the confidence needed to be solely responsible for performing their own part without the help of a conductor. Students will be placed in an ensemble of 3 to 6 players. At camp, students learn not only musical expression and technique, but also focused listening, responsibility, leadership, and coopera on cri cal skills involved in chamber music. Students will spend three to four hours of each camp day playing their instrument. For non CMS students, a placement audi on will be scheduled. The daily schedule includes warm-up and technique class, ensemble rehearsals, orchestra rehearsal, Master classes and daily music enrichment ac vi es. Students will have at least two performance opportuni es during camp. Camp Faculty: CMS Strings and Piano Faculty, and Guest, Ian Shafer Skill Requirements: All Strings: Two Octave Scales up to 3 sharps and 3 flats, out of 3rd posi on, on violin/viola and 4th posi on for cello., slurred/separate, quarter note = 120. 7 MEET THE INSTRUMENTS June 23rd-27th Half Day Camp 9am-12pm Students ages 6-10 will have the opportunity to see, hear and play the instruments of a typical band/orchestra program as well as learn about and experience the beginning steps of each instrument. The day will be broken into segments that include demonstra ons of each instrument, hands-on me and ac vi es/cra s. Milestones in Music will introduce your child to a musical world filled with singing, imita ng sounds, rhyming, sound iden fica on, instrument explora on and crea ve MUSICAL THEATER CAMP July 21st August 1st Full Day Camp 9am-4pm Students ages Musical theatre is a fun and exci ng opportunity for students to learn about vocal technique, movement and choreography and ac ng skills. During this two week camp students will a end classes and rehearsals with CMS faculty and guest teachers as we work on cas ng, staging and rehearsing for a showcase performance on the final day of camp for camper's family and friends. 8 VIVACE STRINGS CAMP August 11th-15th Half Day Camp 9am-1pm or Full Day Camp 9am-4pm PRELUDES PIANO CAMP August 4th-8th Half Day 9am-1pm or Full Day 9am-4pm Vivace Strings Camp is a day camp program for string students ages 6-16 years. Vivace strives to help students discover and develop musical artistry. The theme for this year is Rockin Rhythms. Vivace camp includes activities for junior level campers in Suzuki books 1-4 or their equivalent and senior level campers in Suzuki books 5 & 6 or their equivalent. Senior level campers must enroll in the full day program. Preludes Piano Camp is a day camp program for piano students ages Students should have completed Level 2 in the Faber & Faber, Alfred, or John Thompson method books, or their equivalent (Aaron method book Level 1 book is also acceptable). Students will have an opportunity for coopera2ve music-making and social interac2on with other piano students of similar skill and ages. Students will also study music theory and aural skills, music history and listening, jazz improvisa2on and accompaniactivities include technique class, music enrichment workshops, Master classes, solo time, chamber ensembles and more. There is also free time built into the schedule ment skills depending on age and ability.
