2 Who is this workshop for? This workshop is for any musician looking at instrumental or vocal teaching as a career option. You may be a graduate considering a range of options within a new career in music, with teaching being one of them. Perhaps you are a musician who has been asked to lead a community group. Are you a parent returning to work, who wants to start up a teaching practice from home? This workshop is an ideal way of asking yourself is instrumental or vocal teaching for me? We expect that if you are thinking about instrumental or vocal teaching, you are already a musician. No teaching experience is required or expected in order to attend this workshop. What does this workshop cover? Instrumental and vocal teaching is a varied and exciting career. Teachers often find themselves asked to take on many different rôles, such as teaching individuals or small groups, leading ensembles or taking whole-class music lessons. Suitable for those considering teaching any instrument or in any context, the Introduction to Instrumental and Vocal Teaching workshop covers the main issues that you will need to explore if you are starting a career in teaching. Sessions will include: Understanding teaching and learning Exploring key features of effective instrumental/vocal teaching Planning lessons and measuring progress The first lesson Ideas for starting your career in teaching Planning your career development Understanding instrumental and vocal teaching in the UK Those who attend the workshop will receive a certificate of attendance to add to their professional development portfolio.

Support is given through the An Introduction to Instrumental and Vocal Teaching workshop, for those who are considering teaching as a career, and through courses such as Teaching Music Effectively and the Certificate of Teaching (CT ABRSM) course, for practising music teachers.
