4 EN CENELEC Mobile diagnostics allows collection of statistical data regarding functional and RAMS performances before and during the revenue service of the trackside and train-borne subsystems. Diagnostic data are evaluated and used for planning the consequent maintenance actions.

6 Diagnostic Vehicle CAR ON TEchnology The vehicle has been conceived together with RFI for the requirements of diagnostic systems. Design and development of the diagnostic systems and railway vehicle have been completely implemented in MER MEC facilities. 18 CAR ON TE Operational Program 2011 The following information have been kindly provided by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana Pre-operational phase carried out during 2010 Full operation started t in January Operation Program main outcomes: 2 complete measuring campaigns (six months timeframe) km of lines inspected eurobalises checked Defective balise rate < 0,003% 003% (2,36 defects on average every 100 km) o o o o Default telegrams from balises Lost of balises Wrong distance between balises belonging to the same group Wrong distance between linked balise groups

19 Lost of Balise An interesting case Fault in Balise Group identification was reported on a commercial line near Rome causing sudden trains stop Emergency brake was caused by Lost Balise error in a specific Balise Group. Immediate maintenance intervention and Balise Group replacement didn t fix the problem Caronte detected the existence of strong external interference from a radio station affecting data uplink frequency modulation.
