(Directrs are nt allwed t perfrm with their grups.) Perfrmance Time Limits The nly time restrictin is n the maximum perfrmance time. I rder t keep the festival running smthly it is imprtant that bands d nt exceed a 20-minute time limit. The timing will start n the first nte f music and end with the last nte f music, the time between tunes will cunt twards the verall time. Festival Literature Each Band will be required t perfrm 3 selectins. There is n minimum time Scre Cpies requirement. Failure t adhere t this guideline may necessitate a drp in the Medal Award fr Ensemble. It is suggested that each band perfrm a variety f styles, i.e. blues, ballad, latin, fusin, etc.. Cpies f scres fr adjudicatrs are nt required. 10

2 Festival Day Guidelines Upn Arrival Please arrive at least 1 hur prir t yur scheduled perfrmance time. Directrs must immediately reprt t the registratin desk. At that time, yu shuld cnfirm all fees and frms are cmpleted. An assigned hst will then escrt yu t the assigned warm-up rm. Befre Perfrmance 30 minutes befre yur perfrmance yu ll be brught t the warm-up rm. 15 minutes befre yur perfrmance time, the hst will escrt yur rhythm sectin t the setup area where they will prepare equipment t be transprted t the stage. 5 minutes befre yur perfrmance time, the hst will escrt the thers in the grup t the setup area and a stage crew will prepare the stage fr yur perfrmance. After Perfrmance After the perfrmance bands will be escrted t the clinic rm where the band will wrk with a judge fr 20 minutes. At the end f the clinic, please take ALL f yur equipment ut f the rm and back nt the bus r hlding tank. Students are then encuraged t hear as many ther grups as pssible. Awards Overall band awards will be given ut t each band as determined by the judges in the fllwing Medal categries: Participatin Medal f Merit Brnze Silver *Gld* In additin t the verall band awards each grup will receive 3 utstanding musicianship awards determined by the band directr. The judges will als select a MVP award fr each divisin at each f the district festivals. (*Gld Medals - Please cnfirm yur ensembles participatin with MAJE President within 48 hurs after the cnclusin f yur district perfrmance/festival.) After Awards Final adjudicatin sheets and awards will be given t directrs upn cnclusin f the award ceremny. Judge s recrdings will be placed int the Ggle Drive shared with yu prir t the festival. Please keep this r add the flder t yur ggle drive upn receiving the . Yu may als wish t share this flder with yur students. After Festival Any judging cncerns r questins shuld be addressed t the chief adjudicatr. 11

3 *A nte n the rle f imprvisatin in perfrmances* Jazz has at its rts a strng cnnectin t the ral traditin. MAJE believes that imprvisatin is a critical attribute f an excellent jazz perfrmance. High Schl directrs are expected t include imprvisatin as an imprtant part f their bands perfrmance. Middle schl directrs shuld be seen as prviding pathways fr students t imprvise thrugh: student created written sls and r imprvised sls n basic jazz frms (such as blues, and 32 bar Drian based meldies.) Equipment The fllwing equipment will be supplied fr all participating grups t use: (l) Chairs (2) Music Stands (3) Risers (4) Sund system will include 6 micrphnes (Pian/Sax/Sl). Directrs will be given a chance t sund check t set bass and sax levels. Grups are allwed t ask the sundman t adjust a micrphne during a perfrmance between selectins. (5) Pian (recently tuned acustic) Any equipment nt listed abve must be prvided by each participating ensemble, please cntact site hst if yu have any questins regarding equipment. Fd Cncessins may be made available by the festival hsts. Prices and selectin are up t the discretin f each site hst. If pssible, please supprt yur hst by purchasing cncessins frm them t supprt their prgram. 12
