1 RULES AND CONDITIONS - MUSIC SECTION CONVENER: Kate Hartley or music@mountisaeisteddfod.com PLEASE READ CONDITIONS CAREFULLY, AS THESE WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO. PLEASE DIRECT QUERIES TO THE MUSIC CONVENER. GENERAL CONDITIONS OF THE EISTEDDFOD ALSO APPLY. ENTRY FEES: SOLOS $7.00 DUETS/TRIOS $8.00 CHAMPIONSHIPS $10.00 GROUPS/CHOIRS $ Age of Competitor will be taken as at 26 th May Entries close on 17 th March Duets: Competitors in duets must enter the item appropriate to the older competitor. Duet partners may be changed only in exceptional or emergency circumstances, with at least 24 hours notice in writing to the music convener. 4. Choirs: In choral items where there are insufficient numbers for a junior choir, a combined choir may compete in the senior item. All Choirs to have minimum 15 voices, maximum 60 voices. Small groups are encouraged to enter Folk Group/Vocal Ensemble Items rather than choral items. 5. Accompaniment: CD accompaniment will be allowed for Juvenile Choral Items 303, 304 and 305 ONLY. The Eisteddfod Committee will not be responsible for the quality and volume of the recorded accompaniment. 6. Accompanists: Competitors/Schools requiring the services of an accompanist must contact the accompanist at least five (5) weeks out from eisteddfod date. The eisteddfod association wishes to draw attention to the following. a) Official requirements as recommended by the Music Teachers Association of Queensland: Accompanists are entitled to charge fees of up to $70.00, which covers one rehearsal and a performance. Fees are to be paid at the first practice. At least five (5) weeks notice is required and music must be given to the accompanist prior to the first rehearsal. 7. No competitor may perform twice in one item except where otherwise stated. 8. The committee will not be liable for any copyright infringements relating to the submission of photocopies. a) Competitors must perform from originals. Original means single piece of sheet music, an album of pieces, vocal score or any other collection. b) For adjudication purposes a photocopy of original to be supplied. The competitor agrees that they have accepted the online entry clause and ticked the AMCOS agreement online. In compliance with rules the committee will destroy photocopy after completion of Eisteddfod. 9. In Own Choice section a copy of the sheet music must be provided. The competitor and item number must be clearly marked on the top of the copy. No names to be on the copy. Mark the front of the photocopy with the competitor number, item number, day and session of the performance (i.e. morning, afternoon or evening). To be delivered or posted by 5pm Friday 12 th May. 2 10. Adjudications in vocal solos will include the performers stage presence, choice of costume and use of choreography if applicable. 11. Competitors may NOT sing to digital accompaniments (i.e. CD, backing tracks), nor will microphones be used to amplify vocal tone. Vocal pitch is C Bands and Groups: Competitors performing in the instrumental group items please note the following rules: a) Items have time limits, which include set up and clearance of stage, as well as performance time. The Eisteddfod Committee will not be responsible for setting the stage for these groups. Groups would be advised to practice setting up as time limits will be strictly adhered to. b) Groups must provide sufficient music stands for their own use. Chairs will be available backstage. Groups are welcome to co-operate with each other with regards to leaving stands and chairs in place for subsequent groups - that is up to the discretion of each individual band conductor. c) Conductors are required to hand in a photocopy of the full score (NOT individual parts on separate pages) for adjudication purposes. The competitor agrees that they have accepted the online entry clause and ticked the AMCOS agreement online. 13. Band items are INSTRUMENTAL ONLY. No vocalist is permitted to perform with the bands. 14. Piano: competitors are required to sit and position themselves in readiness for their performance without help (this excludes non-competitive items). 15. Instrumental: Tuning of ALL instruments must be completed prior to the session commencing. Prior to the session opening teachers will be permitted backstage and have access to the piano. Teachers are not permitted on or backstage stage during the competition. A short (10 minute) time slot will be allocated to instruments requiring retuning before the commencement of a section, however this is to be kept at a minimum. 16. All performances are with acoustic piano accompaniment unless the work chosen was composed specifically without accompaniment. This rule applies to all solo, duet and trio vocal and instrumental items, unless otherwise specified. 17. All competitors, exc. choirs, ensembles, bands and orchestras, will be called prior to their item commencing and must present themselves backstage where they will be seated in competition order to wait for their performance. 18. Teachers and parents are not permitted backstage after commencement of items. 19. The Mount Isa Eisteddfod Committee reserve the right to amend rules of the eisteddfod at any time. 3 MUSIC SECTION (Vocal, Strings, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion, Band/Orchestra, Choir, Piano) TIME LIMITS: SOLOS, DUETS & TRIOS 4 minutes (Unless otherwise stated) CHOIRS/GROUPS/ENSEMBLES 10 minutes BAND/ORCHESTRA 20 minutes (inc. set up/down time) CHAMPIONSHIP 6 minutes Items performed are own choice and no digital accompaniments are allowed, except where otherwise stated. Please see rules 5 and 6 of this schedule for accompaniment and accompanist requirements. ORIGINAL MUSIC COMPOSITION 300 Music Composition 13 years and under 8 bars minimum, with harmony OR 8 bars minimum, melody line only, words optional years 16 bars minimum, with harmony 302 Open age 16 bars minimum with harmony NOTE: Competitors may enter more than once in Items 300, 301 and 302. All entries to be performed by composer for adjudication. Entries to be submitted to the convenor by Friday 12 th May. Do not include recordings. JUVENILE CHORAL 303 Year 3 & under a. Choirs to consist of a minimum of 15 voices and maximum of 60 voices. Copies will be required of all own choice pieces. When choosing pieces contrasting styles must be selected. For groups of less than 15 please enter Vocal Ensemble items VOCAL ENSEMBLE This item would suit community children s choirs and smaller school groups. Songs are own choice.
