I m pleased to report that we had a good presence at the Ohio Valley Gathering in Louisville this past weekend. Sam Ross, Fellowship, The Big Band and Slates Family Band all performed during the evening concerts. Susie Kraizig, Dan Reneau and Cheryl Hertzer all gave workshops at the event. We also had a display table for our Eagle Creek Folk Festival flyers and Society information. Also on display were CD s of our Local Folk radio program, for attendees to take home and listen to. One of the workshops that several from our club attended was given by Maureen Sellers; called Ruth s Bottle Workshop. Of course, I had to get to that one! I found out that Ruth Reneau had put together this workshop with pop bottles filled with water to specific notes. She also prepared four parts to each song on continuous paper (Maureen taped it on the wall in the meeting room we were in) and each person played their bottle (or bottles, for us show offs) when Maureen pointed to the notes on the wall. What an enjoyable time! Ruth put so much effort into this, that I asked Maureen if we could do the workshop at the Eagle Creek Festival in June, and suddenly I had two boxes of pop bottles and the associated music in my hotel room! I look forward to carrying on Ruth s efforts by conducting the workshop in June, and I expect to see her there to give me pointers. Ruth, I promise to not play my bowed psaltry around you if you come out to the festival! Remember, registration for participation in this Continued; Page 3 Newsletter 1
