5 Sean Priest Sean is currently Lecturer in Trumpet and Brass Performance at the School of Music, Monash University. He also teaches trumpet and bands at Xavier College s Kostka Hall. Sean is a Fellow of the Trinity College London and a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and holds postgraduate degrees in Music, Education and Politics. Key influences on his development as a musician and educator include Valentin Malkov, former Principal Trumpet of the Leningrad Philharmonic, Gordon Webb, former Principal Trumpet of the London Philharmonic, and International Baroque trumpet specialist Paul Plunkett. Sean s early musical development took place under the direction of Arthur Edwards in what is now known as the Glenorchy City Concert Brass. Most of his formative musical experiences occurred sitting alongside many of Tasmania s finest brass band musicians. He has subsequently conducted, and or performed as soloist, and in the section, of brass bands across the country: from Wodonga City Brass, Darebin City Band, Melbourne Staff Band of the Salvation Army in Victoria, through to Midland Brick Brass Band in Western Australia. With the later band he has recorded as soloist (Russian Dance; Napoli; Jubilance) and broadcast for ABC Radio National s Strike up the Band. Sean is highly regarded as an educator. His passion for the development of musicians of all ages has seen him teach at secondary and tertiary

6 levels and in the community sector throughout his 20 year performing career. He is sought after as an examiner, adjudicator and tutor/clinician and has recently travelled the country as the specialist brass adjudicator for the Australian Youth Orchestra s annual suite of programmes. Sean began his professional career playing trumpet with the Tasmanian Symphony when he was 16. He continues to play guest principal trumpet with many of Australia s professional State Orchestras, and prior to his current teaching commitments was Principal Trumpet with the West Australian Symphony for seven years. His career spans symphonic orchestral, opera and ballet, and commercial styles; he has broadcast and recorded for ABC Classics, and among many recordings for radio, cd, film, tv, and gaming, he can be heard on the Young Indiana Jones TV series, Dungeons and Dragons video games and movies such as the recent Death Defying Acts and The Bank Job.
