13 Shelby County Honors Band Course Contract The Honors Band course is an academically advanced course designed for Juniors and Seniors with an exceptional interest in instrumental music. The class is designed for the most serious and advanced students with extensive experience in both solo performance and large ensembles, and may only be taken once in a student s high school career. This course is performance based, and grades will be assigned based on each student s performance ability on their instrument, in addition to their musical knowledge. Course Guidelines Students enrolled in Honors Band are held to a higher level of expectation than in the regular band class. The course will require a substantial amount of work outside of class and students should carefully evaluate time commitments and the priorities of extracurricular activities as they consider auditioning. Students enrolled in Honors Band are committing to remain in the class for the entire year. Students may exit the course during the first 10 days or at midterm if failing. Students may not enter the class after the first 10 days. If removed from the class, the current grade (with credit earned) will be transferred to the new course. Signatures required for enrollment in the class.
