1 Saskatoon Music Festival 2018 Supplementary Classes to the Provincial Syllabus Understanding the Three Levels of Competition within the SMF. Saskatoon Music Festival (Local) Competitors, teachers and parents are responsible for obtaining all pertinent local addendum and provincial and national syllabi and for familiarizing themselves with rules, regulations and requirements. The local contact person or the local entry secretary will be able to advise you on class selections that will help you qualify for recommendation to Provincial and National levels. For participation in the LOCAL FESTIVAL ONLY - Enter any combination of SMFA Syllabus and Local Addendum classes. Saskatchewan Music Festival (Provincial) In order to be eligible to compete at the PROVINCIAL FESTIVAL - Enter appropriate classes in the SMFA Syllabus or any approved Local Addendum classes to fulfill the requirements for recommendation to the Provincial Festival. In addition, an adjudicator s recommendation is necessary. National Music Festival In order to be eligible to compete at the National Music Festival you must enter the Provincial National class at your local festival. You need your adjudicator s recommendation to compete at the Provincial Festival in the National class. You must have the Provincial adjudicator s recommendation in order to proceed to National competition. Be sure to read the National Syllabus for the specific guidelines and requirements. See for the complete National syllabus. NOTES: We trust and rely on the honesty of teachers, parents and students to carefully decide if a student is in their first or second year of instruction. A year of instruction should be defined as 10 months of instruction whether consecutive or non-consecutive. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Class 2675 Senior Open, Any age Own Choice $35.00 Walter Thiessen (2015) Saskatoon Festival Class Class Walter Thiessen (2015) Class $50.00 A $300 scholarship has been set up to support and celebrate piano students at the Grade 10 level, awarded at the discretion of the adjudicator. This class is unique in that a competitor is eligible to win the scholarship without entering other classes, and the competitor may use repertoire from the previous year's festival. New selections prepared for the Thiessen class may also be entered in other festival classes. The Thiessen class may not be counted as one of two classes necessary to be eligible for additional Saskatoon Music Festival scholarships, or advancement to Provincial competition. The competitor must prepare works representing three different eras, (eg. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, Modern). For the Classical Sonata the number of movements will be left to the discretion of the competitor. The Thiessen program must last a minimum of ten minutes and a maximum of twenty minutes. A competitor may win this award only once.
