4 1. OPERATING ICONS 1.1 Top Operating Icons Threshold setting for channel detection. down. Double tap to remove the threshold. Tap to move the white threshold setting up and Blue marker select. Tap marker. to move the Blue marker left and right. Double tap to remove the Green marker select. Tap to the marker. move the green marker left and right. Double tap to remove Zoom select. Use stylus to drag the zoom area from upper left to lower right. A green color box will be shown on screen, continue to drag down until the box changed to white color that indicates a valid zoom area is selected. Screen panning. Use stylus to move a zoomed screen up, down, right and left. In full screen mode, the panning is disabled. Full screen display. Change screen display from zoomed mode to full screen mode. OSA engine information display; temperature, firmware version, OSA S/N and type. Orange ring indicates that this icon is in use. Page 4 of 9

6 2. Measurement Parameter 2.1 Measurement Parameter Setup Settings Tap the Settings functional icon and the Settings screen will pop up. 2.2 Measurement Parameters OSNR 1. OFF: turn off OSNR measurement nm/50GHz: OSNR is taken from the channel s peak (A), 0.2nm to the left (B), 0.2nm to the right (C), OSNR = (A-B)+(A-C) divided by 2. per IEC nm/100GHz: OSNR is taken from the channel s peak (A), 0.4nm to the left (B), 0.4nm to the right (C), OSNR = (A-B)+(A-C) divided by 2. per IEC User: similar to 2 above, the window s range is max 15nm. per IEC In-band 50GHz: In band OSNR measurement per ITU 50GHz channel table. Note, ITU Grid of 50GHz will be automatically selected. 6. In-band 100GHz: In band OSNR measurement per ITU 100GHz channel table. Note, ITU Grid of 100GHz will be automatically selected. Page 6 of 9

7 ITU Grid 1. OFF: ITU Grid type not selected GHz: 100GHz ITU Grid is selected. When selected, the OSA will measure the frequency and level of the channels detected and compare to the nearby ITU channels for the differences (delta) GHz: Similar to above but ITU channel number will not be shown. Span Power 1. OFF: no span power measurement 2. Span: user programmable span width. The max span depends on the OSA in use; C, C+L or All band. 3. M1 <> M2: Span power between the Green and Blue markers. 4. Note: the Span power measurement measures Current, Min (if min hold is selected) and Max (if max hold is selected) Page 7 of 9
