4 1.. Itroductio 1.1 About this maual This maual describes the istallatio, operatio ad maiteace of the idustrial air curtai model IdAC 2. It is istalled above or ext to the door, across the full width or legth of the doorway. The IdAC 2 model is primarily suitable for larger doors i idustrial buildigs. Located at the opeig, it blows out a stream of air ad thereby brigs about the followig: The exchage of air betwee two rooms due to a temperature differece (covectio) is couteracted. The CHIPS cotrol automatically adjusts the stregth ad heat of the uit to chagig weather coditios. Thus, i all situatios the eergy loss is miimal ad the comfort maximal. CHIPS stads for Corrective Heat ad Impulse Predictio System. Cotrol whe uit o The uit ad the automatic cotrol were developed for situatios i which the door stads ope. For the most efficiet climate separatio ad preservatio of comfort it is importat that the airflow just touches the floor ad is heated sufficietly. The uit cotiuously measures the values that are eeded i order to achieve this: 1. The istallatio height (etered i the cotrol pael) 2. The temperature differece betwee the two rooms: - outdoor temperature - room temperature 3. The temperature of the discharged air As soo as the situatio chages, the cotrol adjusts the outlet flow rate ad the temperature of the airflow to that. Cotrol with uit off If the uit is off at ight, for example it is ot active as climate separatio. If it is off, the uit ca ideed still perform other fuctios: The uit ca be set to keep the room at a miimal ight temperature. Water-heated models are equipped with itegrated frost protectio. Door respose The uit ad the automatic cotrol have bee developed for situatios i which the door stads ope. Gradual door respose: the uit respods to the opeig ad closig of the door. The speed of respose is based o the ope/closed ratio. If the door is closed, the uit works as a room temperature cotroller. I some situatios the uit does ot discharge ay air, eve though it is o Type desigatio The table below provides a overview of the available models of the idustrialair curtai ad the correspodig type desigatios. I combiatio, the type desigatios costitute the type code, for istace: IdAC 2 MX-150-H2-0-Auto. If some part of the maual applies to certai models oly, these will be idicated with the correspodig type desigatio, for example: 150: models with discharge width 150 H: water-heated models E: electrically-heated models 0: horizotal models Auto: models with automatic cotrol I the illustratios i this maual, oe type of uit is used as a geeral example. Switch the uit off,usig the cotrol pael. 2. Wait util the fas have stopped. d Dager: The fas may cotiue rotatig for a while. 3. Allow the uit to cool dow. c Cautio: The heat exchager or, as the case may be, the heatig elemets, may get very hot. 4. Discoect the mais supply ( set the isolatio switch to OFF). 5. For water-heated models: shut off the cetral heatig feed (if possible). w Warig: The fis of the heat exchager are sharp. e-16

Switch the mais supply o ad check that the uit is workig properly. Geeral istructios Some parts of this sectio oly apply to certai models. Where this is the case, it will be idicated. If o specific model is referred to, the the descriptio applies to all models. Make sure that you perform all istallatio operatios that are applicable to your uit. Check the type plate ad cosult the maual if i doubt about the model or type of your uit. 19 INDAC2 MANUAL INSTALLATION Suspesio method Example of a auxiliary structure This maual assumes that the uit will be suspeded from a auxiliary structure, cosistig of two horizotal beams positioed above the door. You may also fix the uits directly to the ceilig, or to aother horizotal structure, usig the screw holes i the upper side of the uit. w Warig: Make sure that the structure from which the uit is about to be suspeded ca bear at least 4 times the weight of the uit Determiig the locatio of the uit Positio the uderside of the uit at the same height as the top of the doorway. Positio the discharge side of the uit as close to the doorway as possible, to esure optimum operatio. If the distace is greater tha 5 cm, Biddle recommeds that you seal off the opeigs at the side. For this purpose, you ca order a side shield of plastic strips from Biddle. Positio the row of uits cetrally i relatio to the doorway. I the case of a assembly with automatic CHIPS cotrol ad several uits, oly oe of which is equipped with a cotrol circuit board, positio the uit with the cotrol circuit board i the middle of the row. Uits of differet widths ca be positioed i radom order. Make sure that the ispectio ad itake sides of the uits remai accessible for maiteace. 20 INSTALLATION INDUSTRIAL AIR CURTAIN Suspedig the uit Perform the followig actios for each uit: 1. Lay the uit i a horizotal positio. 2. Fit threaded rods 1(M12) i all screw holes o the top of the uit. 3. Provide all threaded rods with lock uts 2, ad tighte them. The threaded rods must be secured, otherwise the uit may fall dow. 4. Fit lock uts 3 to each threaded rod. 5. Brig the uit ito positio usig liftig equipmet. 6. Put the suspesio rails 4 o the auxiliary structure, ad faste them with uts 5 to the threaded rods of the uit. 7. Allow the uit to hag freely. For electrically heated models (type E): Remove the small side plates 6 from the cable tray betwee the uits, so that the cablig ca be draw through. e-20

21 INDAC2 MANUAL INSTALLATION Adjustig ad securig 1. Positio the uits agaist oe aother, i oe lie, by placig the suspesio rails 6 agaist oe aother. 2. Attach the suspesio rails to the auxiliary structure. w Warig: Make sure that the suspesio rails ca ever come loose from the auxiliary structure. 3. Adjust the uits to the same height, ad level them by tighteig the uts 5. c Cautio: Esure that the uits are hagig level ad horizotal i both directios. Otherwise the fas may ru out of true. 4. Secure the suspesio to the threaded rods by tighteig the lock uts 3. w Warig: The threaded rods must be secured, otherwise the uit may fall dow. 5. You ca possibly faste the uits to each other. 22 INSTALLATION INDUSTRIAL AIR CURTAIN Istallig side shield For optimum operatio, the uit s discharge opeig must be placed as close as possible to the door opeig. If the distace is greater tha 5 cm., you are advised to seal off the opeigs at the side. For this purpose, you ca order a side shield of plastic strips from Biddle. 1. O both sides of the uit, mout a tubig profile, reachig to the wall Cut the plastic strips to size. 3. 23 INDAC2 MANUAL INSTALLATION Method of erectio This maual makes the assumptio that the uit is to be placed o a base plate (accessory). The uits are stacked o top of oe aother. c Cautio: If you do ot use a base plate, you must esure that the surface udereath is horizotal ad completely level. Otherwise the fas may ru out of true. c Cautio: Although the uits ca stad up by themselves, it is always ecessary to secure them to the wall Determiig the locatio of the uit Place the uits, depedig o the type, o the left or right had side of the door. For this, cosult the type code. c Cautio: Do ot istall the uit i a positio other tha that for which it was made. Positio the discharge side of the uit so that its breadth coicides with that of the doorway. Positio the discharge side of the uit as close to the doorway as possible, to esure optimum operatio. Uits of differet sizes ca be placed o each other i radom order. Make sure that the itake side ad the ispectio side of the uits remai accessible for maiteace. c Cautio: Make sure that all uits ca freely take i ad discharge air across their etire height. Positio the first uit o the base plate. 3. Fix the uit to the base plate with couplig plates 2. c Cautio: Mout the couplig plates o both sides of the uit. 4. Place the secod uit o the first uit, ad attach them together with couplig plates 3. c Cautio: Mout the couplig plates o both sides of the uit. 5. Place the third uit (if applicable) i the same way. e-24

The applicatio limits for this are show i sectio Field of applicatio. The cetral heatig system must be fitted with a overpressure cut-out with a iitial pressure ot exceedig the permitted pressure of the uit. This is show o the type plate at P max. Make sure that the cetral heatig system has sufficiet capacity. Valves for vetig1 ad for draiig 2 of the heat exchager are located o the itake side. See also: "Field of applicatio" o page The water-side cotrol (accessory) Oly for models with automatic CHIPS cotrol The uit is equipped with a water-side cotrol. This regulates the water supply to the heat exchager, so that a costat discharge temperature is achieved. The cotrol ca also be used to limit the discharge temperature. The maximum permitted discharge temperature is idicated i Field of applicatio. For models with automatic CHIPS cotrol, this limitatio is automatically set. I a assembly with automatic CHIPS cotrol, the water-side cotrol valve is automatically closed by default if the uit ad/or the heatig is switched off. This ca be adjusted o the cotrol pael via meu > Cofiguratio > 45. Extra frost protectio. e-26

27 INDAC2 MANUAL INSTALLATION Special poits regardig the water-side cotrol Biddle supplies water-side cotrols for models with automatic CHIPS cotrol. c Cautio: A maximum of 3 uits havig a cotrol valve ca be coected i series per cotrol circuit board. Cosult Biddle if you wat to coect more cotrol valves i a assembly with a sigle cotrol circuit board. Cotrol valves that are ot supplied by Biddle must, i ay case, comply with the followig: 24V power supply. 0-10V cotrol. The total power cosumptio of the water-side cotrols that are coected to 1 cotrol circuit board may be a maximum of 7.6 VA. Coectig the water-side cotrol Oly for models with automatic CHIPS cotrol: 1. Coect the cotrol valve ad the drive to the heat exchager, i accordace with the diagram. I doig so, follow the istructios give i the cotrol valve maual. 28 INSTALLATION INDUSTRIAL AIR CURTAIN 2. Remove the ispectio pael Remove the cover of the electroic housig Coect the cord to the drive, i accordace with the wirig diagram. Use a cable of at least 0.5 mm Feed the cord from the drive through opeigs 3 ad 4 i the electroic housig. 6. Coect the cord to termial X377 5 of the cotrol circuit board, i accordace with the wirig diagram. 7. Coect (if applicable) the drive amog multiple uits. I doig so, follow the istructios i the drive maual. Oly close the electroic housig after coectig the mais supply ad the cotrol uit ad possible exteral cotrols. See also: "Field of applicatio" o page "Special poits regardig the water coectio" o page Frost protectio For models with automatic CHIPS cotrol (Auto type) The electroic cotrol features itegrated frost protectio. This works i two stages: 1. If the temperature of the discharged air falls to below 5 ºC ad the temperature of the itake air falls below 8 ºC: - the valve of the itegral water-side cotrol will ope fully; - the output o the uit gives a sigal for the cetral heatig istallatio provided that fuctio 61. Fuctio of outputs o the cotrol pael is set to Risk of freezig. e-28

If the temperature of the discharged air falls to below 2 ºC ad the temperature of the itake falls below 8 ºC: - the cotrol pael will temporarily display error message E6; - the fas will be switched off, but the valve of the waterside cotrol will stay ope. c Cautio: The frost protectio reduces the risk of freezig but does ot guaratee complete protectio. Take the followig precautios if you istall the uit i a room where frost may occur: - Esure costat circulatio of the water at the right temperature; - Add up to 50% glycol to the water whe the uit is ot i operatio durig the witertime; - Or bleed the system ad the uit Coectig the uit 1. Coect the uit to the cetral heatig system. 2. Vet the heat exchagers. 3. If this is ot desired, switch the uit off at ight with the cotroller that is used for operatig it. You ca attach the extra cotroller to the wall, to a stadard juctio box or at a spot ear the uit. 1. If the distace becomes too great, a additioal cotrol pael must be coected. Oly uits from the same product series, with the same battery type ad of the same capacity ca be applied i combiatio with a sigle cotrol pael. Cofigure ay sigle uit as the master. The sequece of the coected uits is ot importat. Coect the cotrol pael ad the exteral cotrol compoets to the master uit. The door cotact switch (supplied as stadard) ca be coected to this. Other possibilities iclude a timer switch, a room thermostat or a sigal from a buildig maagemet system. c Cautio: The iputs are desiged for cotrols with potetialfree cotacts, ad are ot to be loaded. c Cautio: The iputs of multiple uits must NOT be coected to each other. This applies i the followig situatios, for example: Draught across the groud; If fuctio 45. Extra frost protectio of the cotrol pael is active, heated water is always flowig through the uit. Establish the required coectio. For models with basic cotrol (Basic type) 1. Lay the alarm cable (ot supplied) betwee the uit ad the appliace o which the alarm sigal is received. If the alarm sigal is to be coected i series with several other uits: Lay the cable to the uit which is goig to serve as the master. 2. Night temperature The ight temperature is used whe the uit is switched off. Whe the room temperature drops below this set value, the uit will start workig i order to keep the room at the ight temperature. Use this settig if the door is ot ofte opeed repeatedly i quick successio. Gradual chage: The speed at which the uit respods to the opeig ad closig of the door is based o the ope/closed ratio. If the door opes repeatedly i quick successio, the uit adjusts gradually, so that it does ot eed to start up completely over ad over agai ad high fa stregths (with attedat oise) are ot so ecessary. Use this settig if the door is regularly opes repeatedly i quick successio ad the chages betwee low ad high fa stregths are udesired. Fa speed Set what the fa speed must be if door is closed. This is also the miimum settig with door ope. If this fuctio is set to 0 (fas off) or 5, the, because of the room temperature cotrol, the fas ca evertheless start workig while the doors are closed. Room temperature cotrol If the door is closed, the uit helps to keep the room at the correct temperature cotroller. If the set fa settig for closed door has bee set to 0 or 5, this fuctio does ot work. If room temperature cotrol is ideed desired, the fuctio ca still be activated here. Fa speed for room temperature cotrol Set the percetage of the fa speed that must be used for room temperature cotrol if this has bee set via meu 25. Auto: Door respose. Sice this is oly a estimatio, it may be that your uit does ot fuctio optimally. The automatic cotrol works less efficietly without a outdoor temperature sesor. 45. Extra frost protectio For water-heated models oly Whe the uit is switched off, the water valve closes by default. By default, the uit is equipped with frost protectio. You ca additioally protect the uit agaist frost damage by leavig the water valve partially ope at certai temperatures. Select Valve positio ad set the opeig percetage of the valve so as to always keep a flow ruig over the heat exchager i the uit. Set the maximum outdoor temperature at which the additioal frost protectio must be activated. Whe the temperature exceeds this value, the additioal frost protectio switches off agai. 46. Maximum discharge temperature The cotroller limits the discharge temperature to a maximum of 50 C. Possibly set a lower value i order to save eergy. 47. Overheat protectio If the actual room temperature becomes higher tha the preset room temperature, the heatig ca be switched off i order to prevet the room from becomig too warm. The error messages ca also be deleted here. Error history Gives a overview of the errors which have occurred. Capacity test Use this fuctio to test the capacity of the uit ad your heatig istallatio. The uit will ru for 120 miutes at the highest fa speed ad with the highest heatig capacity. You ca check the discharge temperature ad the heatig capacity per metre of uit legth. The discharge temperature is limited to 50 C. For uits with water heatig: if the heatig capacity is too low, check the supply ad retur water temperatures ad the water flow. Valve check Use this fuctio to check the operatio of the water valve: 1. Set the opeig percetage of the valve to 0%; 2. Press start. The fas will start rotatig at the highest speed; 3. Check whether the discharged air is cold; It may take some time before the valve reaches the adjusted opeig percetage. 4. Repeat steps 1 ad 2 for the percetages 50% ad 100% as well. I doig so, check whether the discharged air gets warmer per step. e-74

The cotrol pael does have power but is ot commuicatig with ay uit. For electrically heated models: The resistor o the prited circuit board for electric heatig is ot fuctioig properly. 1. Check whether all coected uits are provided with mais supply. 2. Check whether the dummy plug o termial X535 of the last coected uit is preset. 3. Check the cotrol cables: are they correctly coected ad free of breaks? are they stretched out or rolled up i a bifilar coil? are they shielded from magetic fields? 4. Check the fuses. 5. Check the wirig betwee the cotrol pael ad coectios X530 ad X535 ad X60 i the uit. 6. Reset the system if the error message does ot automatically disappear. Check ad compare the uit types o the type plate. The uits must have the same battery type ad preferably the same capacity. Check the versio umber of the software via meu > Maiteace > Status. 1. Check the cotrol cables: are they properly coected ad fully itact? are they stretched out or rolled up i a bifilar coil? are they shielded from magetic fields? 1. Clear the error message. 2. This may be a serious fault which may costitute a risk of harm to people. For water-heated models: Risk of freezig because discharge temperature is too low. Frost protectio has bee activated. Freezig may cause damage to the heat exchager. 1. Clear the error message. 2. Check the fas. If oe or more fas do ot work, the check: the fa wirig; the coectio o the cotrol circuit board (X344); If these are i order, the replace the fa. 3. Check the filter (if preset) for cotamiatio. Clea or replace it if ecessary. Cotact Biddle if this error occurs repeatedly. 1. Clear the error message. 2. Switch the mais supply to the uit Off ad O. 3. Let the uit operate for some time with the heatig disabled ad check whether the discharged air stays cold. There is a dagerous fault if: heatig cotiues evertheless; this error message recurs after half a hour; this error occurs repeatedly. I such cases, proceed as follows: discoect the uit from the power supply immediately; cotact Biddle. 1. Clear the error message. 2. Esure that the temperature i the room rises above 8 ºC. 3. This does ot ecessarily always result i a error message o the cotrol pael. 7.8 Settig the uit code The uit code must be set after replacemet of the cotrol circuit board i the uit. The uit code depeds o the uit type ad is idicated o the type plate. Coect the mais supply (isert the plug ito the socket or move the isolatio switch to ON). w Warig: Do NOT touch ay live parts. 2. Press dow the microswitch 1 o the cotrol circuit board. The LED ext to the microswitch will start flashig. The cotrol pael displays eight umbers: these comprise the uit code. 3. Eter the uit code via the cotrol pael ad press ok. 4. Press dow microswitch. The LED ext to the microswitch will stop flashig. The uit code is ow set. 5. Reset the cotrol pael. 7.9 Resettig the PIN code The PIN code of the cotrol pael ca be reset usig a USB flash drive: 1. Coect a USB flash drive to the cotrol pael. The USB meu is activated 2. Press x for 10 secods. The PIN code is reset ad a ew PIN code has to be etered. 3. Exit the USB meu by removig the USB flash drive Copyig the settigs The settigs of the uit ca be copied to aother uit What you eed Before copyig the settig, check that you have the followig: A empty USB flash drive. Coect the USB flash drive to the USB port of the b- touch cotrol pael. If the USB flash drive is ot detected, discoect it ad the coect it agai. The cotrol pael detects the USB flash drive ad displays the USB meu 3. Select Export Settigs The progress percetage is displayed. 4. Whe this has bee completed, discoect the USB flash drive from the cotrol pael Step 2: Copyig the settigs to aother uit 1. Coect the USB flash drive (with the settigs that are to be copied) to the USB port o the other cotrol pael. 2. Keep the fuctio Import settigs pressed dow util the progress of the process is displayed. The settigs are ow beig imported. Below the progress percetage, the ame of the file to be imported is visible: settigs_export.txt 3. Whe this has bee completed, discoect the USB flash drive from the cotrol pael. 4. Cosult Biddle s website for availability What you eed. Before updatig the software of the cotrol pael, check that you have the followig: A empty USB flash drive. The USB flash drive must be formatted for FAT or DOS. Do ot use a USB hard disk for the software update. A PC with Iteret access Step 1: Check the curret software versio Before you update the software of the cotrol pael or of the cotrol circuit board, you must check the existig software versio. If the software versio is the same as that of the most recet update file o Biddle s website, you do ot eed to update the software. 1. Press meu i the Home scree. 2. Select Maiteace. The versio of the curret software is displayed i the status overview Step 2: Dowload the most recet software 1. Coect the USB flash drive to a USB port o your PC. 2. O your PC, go to Biddle s website ad look uder Dowloads. 3. Look for your product ad the available software for your uit. 4. If the software versio is more recet tha the versio o your cotrol pael, click o the software update. 5. Accept the licece agreemet ad save the file to the mai directory of the USB flash drive. 6. Do ot discoect the USB flash drive from the cotrol pael eve if there is a power failure durig the update. The update will resume as soo as the power returs. If a error occurs durig the update, start the procedure agai. If the error cotiues to occur, cotact Biddle. 1. Coect the USB flash drive (with the software update) to the USB port o the cotrol pael.
