2 Each student is responsible for: Creating a Treatment / Proposal for the project Creating a crew list for the production Creating a set design Create a Rundown of the entire show totaling 30 minutes Create a Storyboard of the open Students can chose between several different types of programs to develop: Newscast 30 minutes - Develop a newscast with news, sports, and weather. It could include other segments as well. Sitcom -30 minutes- Develop a sitcom. Sitcom stands for situation comedy. Example: Seinfeld, Friends, The Office Reality or Drama -30 or 60 minutes- Develop a drama or reality show with recurring characters. Example: Law and Order, Real World. Talk Show 60 minutes- Develop a talk show with a host and guest (s). Example: Oprah 1. Graphics: The program must have an opening graphic, name identification, and end credits. 2. Length: The required length is 30 or 60 minutes. 3. Audio: Bump music must be included during open, before and after commercial breaks, and during credit roll. Voice over will be used a minimum of one time during the production 4. Sets: Use sets appropriate for your topic. BE CREATIVE!! 5. Commercials: The producer needs to allocate at least 8 minutes to the show or 16 minutes for an hour long show. 6. Shots: Three cameras must be on the set (One wide and two medium shots). 7. Content: Be original! Try to come up with your own idea or show topic. What would you like to see on TV, but it is not on yet? 8. Rundown: Create a list of events that the viewer is going to see. Include open, commercials, segments, credits, and any other elements or segments. 2

3 TREATMENT / PROPOSAL This worksheet is the initial steps in the Pre-Production Process. Each student is required to: Create their own program, indicate the objectives of the video, identify the Target Audience, create a short description of events to occur, and describe the outcome of the project. What is the name of your show? What is significant about the name of the show? What is your idea for your show? (Provide a brief description) What is your objective for your show? (Motivate, Entertain, Inform, etc...) How will your show be different than others show currently on the air? What type of network will this program appear? (Broadcast or Cable Network) List a potential network of which this show might be appropriate. Who is your target audience? Why? (Give exact age, and Male or Female from Business of TV Unit) What timeslot would this programs air? (Morning, Daytime, Primetime) Provide a specific time of the day. Using the shows on television today, who might be your competition? 3

4 PROGRAM RUNDOWN A half hour show must be at least 12 segments long and at least 24 segments long.
