Increasingly, building owners and homeowners are seeking to know what is in their products and want to understand the impacts of how it was produced. This rise in demand calls for manufacturers to explore their own supply chains and manufacturing practices. Legrand and Superior Essex recognize that evolution is necessary to truly understand how our manufacturing processes, product design, material selection, and supplier relationships can work together to create more sustainable products. To meet these rising demands, Legrand and Superior Essex have combined our industry-leading expertise in product transparency and sustainable manufacturing into ncompass Systems. ncompass Systems is the first and only complete structured cabling system solution that can help you reach your goals for green building projects by providing transparent product information for over fifty copper and optical fiber cable and connectivity products. Customers working on a LEED v4 building project can leverage multiple products with product-specific Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Product Environmental Profiles (PEPs) as well as Health Product Declarations (HPDs) from ncompass Systems.

3 ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERSHIP BEGINS WITH PRODUCT TRANSPARENCY ENVIRONMENTAL PRODUCT DECLARATION (EPD) A standardized, verified document that reports environmental data of a product or product family based on a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) with at least a cradle to gate scope. Conforms to ISO standards 14025, 14040, 14044, and EN or ISO PRODUCT ENVIRONMENTAL PROFILE (PEP) A Type III (3rd-party verified) EPD, registered under PEP ecopassport, the international program operator for electrical, electronic, and HVAC-R products. HEALTH PRODUCT DECLARATION (HPD) A document based on an open standardized that provides transparent disclosure of the material ingredients and associated hazards of a building product. The HPD was created by the Health Product Declaration Collaborative. ncompass Systems products contribute towards one point for each of the following Building Product Disclosure and Optimization credits: a) Environmental Product Declarations (Option 1 for product-specific Type III EPD), and b) Material Ingredient Reporting (Option 1). To obtain one point for each credit, it states that you must use at least 20 different permanently installed products sourced from at least five different manufacturers that: a) meet the disclosure criteria (i.e. with a product-specific Type III EPD), and b) that use an approved program (i.e. an HPD) to demonstrate the chemical inventory of the product to at least 0.1% (1000 ppm). LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (LEED) A voluntary, third-party rating system and certification program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the most prominent pathway for the design, construction, and operation of high performance sustainable buildings in the market today.
