2 NEXANS N3S ODF SYSTEM N3S The system consists of patching frame, splicing frame (not splicing box on wall), splicing module, patching module and a complete solution for handling harnesses and cables. Three different sizes of frame are available, 2200x600x300 mm, 2000x600x300 mm and 1800x600x300. Each patching frame has an integrated cable ladder for harnesses and cable runs. The splicing frame has an integrated cable ladder for cables coming from the patching frame. Other cables are installed on ladders included in the crossconnection room. The patching module, which is precontacted, is available in two sizes, 48 and 96 fibres. The splicing module consists of 8 fold-out cassettes. 96 fibres can be spliced in each cassette (12 divisible 8-fibre ribbons). 3 Patching frame 2200 mm Each patching frame can handle 16 patching moduleses which each contain 96 fibres. This makes a total of 1536 fibres/frame. The inner frame in the patching frame can be pulled out and twisted, for access to work on cables and harnesses. Internal harnesses (red and blue) are always 5 metre long when 2200 mm frame is used, the harnesses should be coiled as in the illustration. The length of external harnesses (orange) depends on where the patching frames are located in relation to each other. In this illustration, the length is 11 metres. Patching frame from the front The harnesses are run on the sides of the inner frame in guides. The illustration shows an inner frame pulled out and twisted. A specific system must be observed, to avoid creating a tangle of harnesses in the guides. Outgoing harnesses should always be put in the rear compartments of the guides. The harnesses for the two highest modules must always be run into the fourth compartment in the guide, counted from the front etc. This means that a patching module can be pulled out of the frame together with its cables, without needing to undo the connectors. The open design of the top of the frame means that harnesses never need to be threaded through anything at any point. Patching inner frame pulled out and twisted There is a radius restrictor with a spring mechanism on the top sides of the inner frame, which ensures that the harnesses never in any situation will be damage when the inner frame is pulled out and twisted. 4 Each patching modules can be installed or removed from a frame by itself, independently of all other patching modules. One or more patching modules can be pulled out of the frame during operation (during fault-finding etc.) thanks to the cable management on the rear of the frame. The cable is laid in a figure W, using hangers, before it is run out of the patching frame and up onto the cable ladder. All outgoing cables and harnesses exit the frame from above. There are holes in the top and bottom frames of the frame so that frames can be fixed side to side, or back to back. The same holes are used to fix the frame to the wall. No fixing points are needed in the room ceiling. Patching frame seen from rear 2000 mm Each patching frame can handle 14 patching modules which contain 96 fibres each. This makes a total of 1344 fibres/frame. Internal harnesses are 4,4 m when 2000 mm is used. In other respects, it has the same functions as the 2200 mm frame mm Each patching frame can handle 12 patching modules which contain 96 fibres each. This makes a total of 1152 fibres/frame. Internal harnesses are 3,9 m when 2000 mm is used. In other respects, it has the same functions as the 2200 mm frame. All patching frames can be delivered with doors. Covers on the side and backside can easily be removed. N3S

5 Splicing frame 2200 mm A splicing frame can handle the fibres and cables to cover 5 patching frames. Fully populated, this means 40 ingoing cables (192 fibres) + 80 cables from the patching moduleses can be handled in one frame. The frame has the space for 10 splicing modules which can handle 768 splices each (96 divisible 8-fibre ribbons). The grand total number of fibres that can be spliced in the frame is 7680 fibres. No cable slings are used in the frame. The cables finish off at the top or bottom of the frame, using a cable clamp fixed to the frame, please refer to illustration 2. The ribbons are protected in tubes which each contain 96 fibres/tube. The tubes are fixed by their respective cables' cable clamp. All the tubes are bundled together with the cables from the patching modules, using Velcro tape, and fixed to the frame back panel. Each splicing module is given its own row of tubes which run along the frame back panel. Since the splicing modules can be swung out, there is always access to the tubes in the frame. The first splicing module is located 350 mm above/below the cables. The total number of fibres which can be spliced in the frame is 6912 fibres. In other respects, it has the same functions as the 2200 mm frame. N3S

6 1800 mm The frame has space for 8 splicing modules, which can handle 768 splices each (96 divisible 8-fibre ribbons). The total number of fibres which can be spliced in the frame is 6144 fibres. In other respects, it has the same functions as the 2200 mm frame. The splicing frame can be delivered with doors. N3S

7 Patching modules The patching module is supplied precontacted with a 20 metre indoor cable. The connectors are located in 6 pull-out modules containing 16 connectors in 8 duplex adapters. Each pull-out unit has a swing-out adapter holder, for access to the inner connectors. Each adapter plate has punched holes so that damaged adapters can easily be changed. If repairs are needed, the entire patching module is pulled out of the frame without needing to undo the harnesses or the indoor cables. One side of the patching modules is unscrewed to give access to the fibres. Patching modules 96 fibres Splicing module The splicing module consists of 8 swingout cassettes. Each cassette can handle 96 splices (12 divisible 8-fibre ribbons). The ribbons in the splicing module are long enough to allow splicing to be done with the box still installed on the frame. 8 Accessories Screen When doors not is used a screen is possible to use, on which any type of marking can be placed. The screen is installed on the patching module and is designed as a hatch. Patching module with screen Hangers Hangers can be purchased ready-installed in the frame, but can also be retrofitted as necessary. A frame with few patching modules needs a small number of hangers. Hangers Pull-out foot The pull-out foot is used when the inner frame is pulled out from the patching frame. The foot is removed when it is not needed. Purchase in pairs for each patching frame or one pair for each cross connection room. Pull-out ramp Pull-out foot Instead of pull-out foot you can use a pull-out ramp. The pull-out ramp is bolted to the floor (one ramp to each patching frame). Cable clamp The cables finish off at the top or bottom of the cabinets, using a cable clamp fixed to the frame.
