2 What are the CleanStage products? CleanStage products are a toolkit for cabling your event s stage with signal and power, providing maximum time savings, operational efficiency, and stage aesthetics. Sound Ideas created the CleanStage series of products to provide the building blocks to quickly, neatly, and effectively construct the signal flow and AC power distribution for a production. These products accomplish this by combining stage power, signal inputs, and returns into a single cable or snake. CleanStage cables and snakes break the separation barrier using patented technology to eliminate the induced interference that AC power has on analog and digital signals. Using a single cable eliminates the need for considering the separation of power and signals, allowing a single cable to be run from performance positions on the stage. CleanStage snakes and boxes allow a trunk to be run to a strategic point on the stage where further cables can fan out the AC power and signals from that point. Engineered stage boxes allow for combined access to AC power and signals from the same box, while providing branch connections to continue a wiring trunk from the same AC power feed and signal sources. Cut out the noise in your life If you have ever positioned audio cables next to an AC power cable for any distance, you know this induces a 60 Hz (US) hum on your analog audio lines. All of the CleanStage cables use Gepco s patented cable technology to balance and eliminate this interference. The first graph shows the noise that is typically induced on a cable when run next to an AC power line. Shown in the second graph, a CleanStage cable eliminates the 60 Hz noise while combining the run into a single cable. CleanStage Sample Application Typical Stage Plot Here is a look at a typical application for a band setup using the CleanStage system. This arrangement uses 3 stage snakes to trunk signals from the stage side to their appropriate stage positions. 3 Rhythm Trunk The first trunk uses the CleanStage 12X Stage Box populated with 10 Inputs and 2 Returns (part number: SNK12X-25- ED-10I2R-E). The signals in this snake are connected as follows: Input 1 Kick Drum (At hole) Input 2 Kick Drum (Inside) Input 3 Snare Top Input 4 Snare Bottom Input 5 Rack Tom 1 Input 6 Rack Tom 2 Input 7 Floor Tom Input 8 Overhead Left Input 9 Overhead Right Input 10 Bass Guitar Input Return A Drum Monitor (Line Level) Return B Bass Monitor (Line Level) In this case, a 2X Green CleanStage cable is used to extend the signals from the stage box to the Bass Guitar stage position. The Green cables provide connectors for both inputs and outputs so that connections to the bassist s monitor and instrument have the correct gender XLR connector. The Green cable also includes the AC power used by the bass player for their amp, pedals, and active direct boxes. To provide locking AC power connections, PowerCON connectors are used on the 2X Green cable and a CleanStage Edison outlet box (part number: CAB2PC2XGRN-25) converts the PowerCON to two dual outlet receptacles. Keyboard Trunk The second trunk uses the CleanStage 8X Stage Box populated with 6 Inputs and 2 Returns (part number: SNK8X-25- ED-6I2R-E). The signals in this snake are connected as follows: Input 1 Keyboard 1 Left Input 2 Keyboard 1 Right Input 3 Keyboard 2 Left Input 4 Keyboard 2 Right Input 5 Keyboard Vocal Input 6 Spare Return A Keyboard Monitor Left Return B Keyboard Monitor Right In this case, the box is dedicated to the keyboard player since they have a greater number of inputs and returns. The single snake run provides all of the inputs and returns to provide a stereo connection for two keyboards and the keyboardist s vocal mic. If additional power outlets were needed, the PowerCON output on the side of the stage box could be connected to additional outlets as needed using CleanStage Edison outlet box (part number: ACEDBOX) which converts the PowerCON input to two dual outlet receptacles. Downstage Trunk The downstage trunk serves to provide connection to all of the performers at the front edge of the stage as well as a control feed for the DMX-controlled lights along the front of the stage. This is accomplished using a CleanStage 12X Stage Box populated with 8 Inputs and 4 Returns (part number: SNK12X-50-PC-8I4R-E). 5 CleanStage Product Construction Stage Boxes In all of the CleanStage stage boxes, the connectors are mounted on 18 gauge, matteblack powder coated steel with strategic folds for added structural integrity. Each box is wrapped with a powder-coated 14 gauge outer U-wrap that protects all connectors and provides static stage placement along with easy road case stacking. All stage box components are American made to the highest standards for product endurance. Cable Construction CleanStage cables are provided with additional strain relief at each end. The dual layer of heat shrink at the ends serves to provide both cable identification by a simple color-coded method, while also giving the cable additional strain relief not typically seen in most cable construction. Cable The CleanStage products use the new Gepco RunONE cable to provide the transport of signals and AC power through the same jacketed cable. This cable is made in America, AWM 2464 approved, and patented for its ability to eliminate the normal interference between a 60 Hz hum and sensitive signals. Connectors All CleanStage products use the highest quality gold-plated connectors by Neutrik. These connectors are synonymous with reliability, long-term endurance, and universal acceptance. 8 2X Cables The CleanStage 2X cables are designed for connection of 2 signals of analog or digital audio or DMX data along with up to 15 AMP of AC power. They make the perfect companion to the CleanStage Snakes to extend signals and power from a stage box to a specific performance position. The 2X cables come with color coded tubing that identifies the connector configuration for quick and easy setup. 9 2x Cables wth integrated Cat 5e These cables are primarily used between a stage and operation location such as a Front-Of-House location. By combining AC power, 2 Cat 5e, and 2 signal lines for analog/digital audio or DMX lighting control, these products allow for a quick setup without the worry of separation between AC power and signals. The Cat 5e connections are terminated at each end using Neutrik s rugged EtherCON connector. The AC plugs are hospital grade Edison plugs and receptacles. The signal wires use gold-plated XLR connectors or optional Neutrik ConvertCON connectors. Each cable comes with pig bags for each of the connector ends. 10 Power only Products PACTAP The CleanStage PACTAP allows for locking PowerCON connectors to be used with devices that only have an IEC power supply connection. It has both in and out PowerCON connections so that power can be continued in a trunk. Power specs: 15A thru, 13A IEC powered device. The PACTAP is available with 1ft or 3ft IEC tail. These extremely rugged boxes protect all side connections and feature the same powder-coated metal-surround protection as found on all CleanStage stage boxes. These boxes can be chained together in series to provide an AC power trunk to stage locations using PowerCON cables to provide a locking, stable connection. The AC boxes come with 4 Edison receptacles or 2 Edison receptacles with 2 PowerCON jacks in addition to the chaining PowerCON connections. 11 Ruggedized Cat 5e Cables This ruggedized version of a Cat 5e cable has been designed to continue to work in applications beyond where a basic Cat 5e cable would. Don't make the same mistake many have made and assume that the same cables that connect your home computer to your router are adequate for professional applications. Standard cables are made of fragile wire with very little strain relief at the ends. RJ-45 connectors at the ends provide a locking mechanism, but have a very limited lifetime when used often. For professional applications, you need a professional cable! Many cheaper cables boast the same, but this cable is made of 100% best-of-breed components and constructed in the USA. CleanStage ruggedized Cat 5e cables provide all metal, locking Neutrik EtherCON connectors at each end with additional strain relief at the ends for higher reliability. The cable used is Gepco CT504HDX that utilizes a double jacket construction that includes a proprietary inner belt that maintains the pair spacing and electrical specifications, even when bent and flexed. Inside the durable TPE outer jacket of the cable, the Cat 5e conductors are covered with a tight Silicon belt, providing support to keep the TIA standards for the twists consistent, even after hundreds of times coiling and uncoiling.
