4. CONNECTIONS Connecting to an ISDN Telephone Line Connect the 'ISDN IN' connector of your EYE-C video transmitter to the NTBA of your ISDN telephone system or to an ISDN output connector of your telecommunication system. If you wish to use additional ISDN devices on the same ISDN line, connect these to the 'ISDN OUT' connector of the EYE-C video transmitter (= serial connection with intermediate relay switches). Notes for Use with a Telephone Switchboard System Please note that when using the EYE-C video transmitter in conjunction with a telephone switchboard system, the external alarm can not be guaranteed under certain circumstances. In the event of a power cut, if the switchboard system becomes defective, or if all the external lines are in use, then the EYE-C video transmitter will not be able to establish an external connection. ISDN Protocol Please note that the EYE-C video transmitter only supports the DSS1 EURO-ISDN protocol. Please check that your ISDN telephone connection or switchboard system supports this protocol before using the EYE-C video transmitter. Configure your system to use this protocol, if not already the case. 14

4. CONNECTIONS Connecting to a TCP/IP Network Connect the 'NETWORK' connector of the EYE-C video transmitter to a connection point of your network. Note that the TCP/IP network protocol must be used between the EYE-C video transmitter and the receiving computer. The network must support a data transmission rate of 10 Mbit/sec. Warning: During active video transmission, the network is subject to heavy data traffic (4-6 Mbit/sec.) between the EYE-C video transmitter and the receiving computer. We recommend the use of separate network cabling or a network switch for video data transmission in order to avoid a heavy performance penalty. If you have questions concerning this issue, then please refer to your network administrator. 15

4. CONNECTIONS Connecting to an analog Telephone Line Telephone Cable Connect to Telephone Outlet (type dependent on country) Using a suitable telephone cable, connect the 'MODEM' connector of your EYE-C video transmitter with your analog telephone socket. Alarm Warning via analog Telephone Lines Make sure that any additional analog terminal devices that may exist do not use the same telephone connection. The telephone number of the connection should not be listed in a public telephone directory for security reasons. This applies to both the transmitter connection and the receiver connection. 16

4. CONNECTIONS Direct Connection via a Serial Null Modem Cable Connect the 'COM' connector of your EYE-C video transmitter with an available serial connection on your receiving computer. Use a null modem cable with a maximum length of 10m for this purpose. A DB9-to-DB9 cable is provided. Use a standard DB9-to-DB25 converter if necessary. 17

5. OPERATION MODE DISPLAY General Information The EYE-C video transmitter indicates its current operation mode via an integrated piezo crystal and three LED's (Light Emitting Diodes) that are located on the front of the device. The following operating modes can be indicated using these components: Initialization Status The device runs various internal tests during the startup procedure (which begins when the device is connected to a power supply). The operation mode display changes as a consequence in the following way: 1. The green LED is permanently on and the yellow LED flashes regularly. 2. After approximately 10 seconds, a short signal tone is issued and the yellow LED stops flashing and stays on. 3. After another 10 seconds, the yellow LED is switched off again. 4. After a short time, all three LED's will light for about 2 seconds. After this, the current operation mode will be indicated and the device is ready for use. Power Supply The green LED titled Power will stay on as long as the EYE-C video transmitter is connected to the power supply. Active Connection The red LED titled Alarm will flash regularly for the duration of the active connection between the receiving computer and the EYE-C video transmitter. Active Alarm The red LED titled Alarm will light permanently as soon as one of the monitoring lines connected signals an alarm. The LED will only be switched off when the user has terminated an alarm via an active connection to the EYE-C video transmitter. Arming The yellow LED titled Fail will light permanently when the EYE-C video transmitter is armed but no alarms are defined. Serious Device Malfunction The yellow LED titled Fail will flash regularly and an SOS signal (three long tones followed by three short tones) will be repeated. In this case, deinstall the EYE-C video transmitter and return the device to an authorized SENSORMATIC customer service representative. 18

6. RECEIVER SOFTWARE TCP/IP Parameters Enter the network parameters of your EYE-C video transmitter in this area of the dialog box. Box DNS Name Forces a Domain Name Server in the network (if present) to register and list the EYE-C video transmitter under the entered name. Ensure that the name you enter is unique within the network. Box IP Address Enter a valid and unique IP address (within the network) for the EYE-C video transmitter here. The EYE-C video transmitter is supplied with the predefined loopback address Box Port Number Determines the communication port to use for the TCP/IP connection. Make sure that the port number is not already used for communication within the network by other programs. The EYE-C video transmitter is supplied with the predefined IP port number Box Subnet Mask The Box Subnet Mask determines the IP address space of the local network segment (subnet). The EYE-C video transmitter is supplied with a predefined subnet Important Note: If you enter an invalid subnet mask value, it is possible that a part of the IP address of your receiving PC is outside the valid address space, which will make communication between the EYE- C video transmitter and the receiving PC impossible. Contact your network administrator to find out which subnet mask you should use. ISDN Parameters Enter a unique ISDN call number (= ISDN user number without an area code or telephone switchboard dial-out prefix) in the MSN field to assign this to the EYE-C video transmitter. The EYE-C video transmitter compares the target telephone number of all incoming data calls on the ISDN line with that of the configured MSN number. The call will only be accepted if the target telephone number is the same as the MSN number. The EYE-C video transmitter is supplied without a predefined MSN number and will therefore accept all data transmission calls on the ISDN line. Box Reboot It is necessary to reboot the EYE-C video transmitter to enable changes to the network settings of the device. To do this, select the menu item Reboot EYE-C in the Action menu. This action will cut the active connection. The EYE-C video transmitter is then ready for use after approximately 35 seconds. 28

If one of the detectors responds according to the detector line configuration, an alarm is initiated. Select Configuration > Alarm Methods... to define how the video sender shall report the alarm. The 'Configure Alarms' dialog opens. For more information, refer to the online help system. 30

7. TROUBLESHOOTING General Notes This part of the appendix contains general instructions and guidelines to help you track down and solve possible problems. If you can't find an answer to your problem, or if it persists despite the steps described here, then please contact your authorized SENSORMATIC service representative. The vast majority of problems can be tracked down to a handful of causes. For this reason, please check the following points before searching for additional solutions to a problem. 1. Check the power supply and wiring to both the EYE-C video transmitter and the receiving PC. 2. Check the operation mode of the EYE-C video transmitter using the LED's. 3. Connect your receiving PC to the EYE-C video transmitter using a null modem cable and check the settings saved in the EYE-C video transmitter. General Problems Problem or Error The EYE-C video transmitter was connected to a receiving PC via a null modem cable, but the error message 'Identification took too long' was displayed on making a connection. While trying to make a connection via a TCP/IP network, the error message 'Timeout during connection' is displayed. Corrective Action 1. Check the settings for the dial-in location in the Configuration dialog box and make sure that the correct settings have been made for the serial interface: Bits per second = Data bits = 8 Parity = None Stop bits = 1 Protocol = Hardware 2. Check the connection of the null modem cable from the receiving PC to the EYE-C video transmitter. 1. Check that the IP address and IP port settings for the dialin location in the Configuration dialog box correspond to those in the video transmitter configuration. 2. Open a DOS box and enter the command ping and the IP address of the EYE-C video transmitter (e.g. ping ). Contact your network administrator if the timeout error persists during this test. 31

7. TROUBLESHOOTING Problem or Error Corrective Action The attempt to make a connection using an ISDN line evokes the error message 'Timeout during connection'. The receiver software only shows a black box for one of the cameras connected. When making a connection, the error message 'User identification failed' is displayed. Alarm light is flashing; connection is via a serial null-modem cable. 1. Check the settings for the dial-in location in the Configuration dialog box and make sure that the telephone number entered corresponds to that of your EYE-C video transmitter. 2. In the Configuration dialog box, change the number of ISDN channels used for the dial-in location to 1. If this proves to be successful, check whether other ISDN devices are possibly sharing one of the two channels on the same ISDN line. 3. Reset your telephone switchboard system (temporarily switch it off). 4. If you are using an AVM Fritz! card in your PC, make sure that you have installed a suitable CAPI driver (version 2.18 or higher). If you need to update your driver, contact your distributor or contact AVM directly. 1. Connect the corresponding camera to an analog monitor and check the video signal. 2. Check the settings for contrast and brightness for the camera in the receiver software. 3. Switch suspect camera input with known good camera input to isolate problem. 1.
